Why do hurricanes strengthen over water but tornadoes are weaker in the water than on land?

Wouldn’t the storms need warm air moisture to form and intensify? Sources?

hurricanes form in the ocean where there is alot of warm water. The hurrican gets more powerful when there is warm water and weather. It will die out if it doesn’t get that.
tornadoes are just wind which forms on land when there is cold air and hot air.

Tornado’s are formed out of super cells, which are formed above the hot lands and where "cold" and "hot" air meet. Hurricanes draw their power out of the warm ocean. Hurricanes are much bigger systems than tornado’s, but tornado’s generate the hardest winds.
