Tornado Questions
I live in Northern Westchester County, NY. About 50 miles north of
NYC. I always heard tornado warnings in other parts of the country like The Midwest and the South. I read that tornadoes have occurred in all 50 US states. I want to know why there hasn’t been any tornadoes or why they are so rare here. Someone told me its because theres too many hills. Why is it not happening here.

I’m not that familiar with Westchester County, but you have had tornadoes in the past. Here are some dates and intensities:
AUG 11, 1971 F1
SEP 01, 1974 F1
SEP 26, 1977 F1
NOV 16, 1989 F0
JUN 12, 1991 F0
SEP 03, 1992 F0

if there are alot of big buildings they block the wind going in two different directions. if there was strong enough rotation on would form or if one startd in another city and moved along. that is way they never occure in NY NY. it would have to starts as a f-6 to and f-12 witch no american can be ready for with todays technology it is just to weak.

Given the right weather it will happen, they have picked up in this part of the country(south east) and as far as I know the U.S. is the only country that has tornadoes.
