Tornado Questions
I have a SERIOUS phobia of thunderstorms, but mostly tornadoes. Im always checking the weather channel and not going out when a thunderstorm is coming cause im so worried a tornado is going to come. can anyone help me break the habbit?
like im not sure if i should talk to a psychiatrist, or a psychologist, or a counciller or whoever deals with phobias.

Psychiatrist if you think drugs are necessary; a psychologist if you think simple therapy will work.

Hi Tron,
I’m sorry to hear about your phobia. When I was a younger child, I watched a movie about tornadoes, and after that I developed this intense phobia of [tornadoes] as well. It got to the point of always checking weather channels, asking my teachers if tornadoes were coming, many nightmares, even to the point where I was afraid to play in baseball games because I thought a tornado was coming. It was so bad that I would want to cry from being so scared, and I would think about tornadoes nearly all day, and it got in the way of many things. Eventually it took much self-assurance that I don’t live in a place prone to tornadoes, and my family helped by getting me a weather book- and it was really neat! Instead of terrifying me even more, I became fascinated with tornadoes and weather in general, and for a while I wanted to be a tornado chaser as my profession. xD So if I were you, first off, if you don’t live in a place prone to tornadoes, tell yourself that! Reassure yourself that you are safe from harm. And if you do live in a place known for tornadoes, reassure yourself that you are safe, and make sure you always have a safe haven to enter and the materials necessary if a tornado were to ever come. Secondly, you could just possibly learn more about tornadoes, and the mysterious wonder and beauty they have- it’s just another part of God’s creation, and you are always safe in His arms
Good luck!
