What siteman said is really wrong.
Thunderstorms have thunder. DUH! Hence they have lightning. Thunderstorms can carry a lot of precip such as HP supercells (High precipitation). Thunderstorms can also have hail, high winds, microbursts, and straight line winds.
Tornadoes are born from thunderstorms. It takes a special thunderstorm, a mesocyclone, to create one. It also takes special features of the atmosphere to create a tornado.

Both Are:
Strong
Fast moving
Dark
Potentially dangerous
Windy
Have high pressure
Have low pressure
Differences:
Thunderstorms are stronger and produce the tornadoes
Tornadoes have a central down draft surrounded by updrafts
Tornadoes winds are typically stronger
Tornadoes cannot be seen if they move over a place where there is no dirt.
Tornadoes move independently of the jet stream.
Tornadoes are stronger than the localized thunderstorm
Thunderstorms produce more lightning.
