Tornado Safety help plz!!?
I live in a old two story house probably built in the 40s.really high roofs, a lot of windows, large rooms. I am petrified of Tornadoes. We had a watch while I was in school before, and I had a panic attack to the point I couldn’t breath. The only safe place that seems it would be safe would be a tiny closet east(i think) side of my house. all the other rooms are big, or they have windows or glass. I live in Tarpon Florida, and have been told time and time again, that tornadoes aren’t that common, but every time a storm comes, I freak out. How can I be safe, and control my fear, if a tornado does come?Is there a way to calm myself down if there is just a storm?
I live in Florida.I don’t have basements. or cellars.
this house doesn’t have an interior rooms, either. all the rooms meet the outside walls.

Keep calm and get to the center or the lowest point in your home. if you don’t have a basement than get to a bathroom and away from windows. take flash lights and battery powered radios. also take a heavy blanket or comforter with you to protect yourself from glass and other sharp objects that could potentially harm you. have a cell phone with you in case you need to make an emergency call. only wait until the storm has completely passed or the warning is over before you leave your bathroom or basement. tornadoes usually only last a few minutes at the most.

Go the lowest level of the house. Get into an interior room. What that means is a room that its walls do not face outside as well. The bathroom or tub is a great place as well due to the plumbing pipes in the walls will make the walls sturdier. If you have a basement/cellar/or storm shelter, go into that. Take pillows, blankets, water, batteries, flashlight, battery operated radio, any toiltery you may need, a mattress to cover yourself from debris, and a whistle just in case you are trapped under debris, you can blow the whistle to let rescuers know where you’re at.

I live in North Dakota where there are a lot of tornado warnings. The basement is the safest place and stay away from windows.

The very first thing you need to do it to get your panic under control. Panic can cause you to be irrational and make bad decisions. This can be done by having a good plan to follow when and if a Tornado does come your way. Tornadoes do occur in Florida, in fact Florida is the 4th worst state for having tornadoes. Florida averages 46 tornadoes each year.
Without out a basement or storm cellar have a plan to go immediate to a very structurally strong building like a brick building unless local weather forecasters have indicated a safe haven for you. Stay calm, have a plan of attack and you will be fine.
Practise taking deep breaths and letting them out very slowly. Think good thoughts.
