Tornado Shelters
I have a very big fear of thunderstorms (tornadoes) to be exact. I have never even been in one but have been in the path of a couple to the point where I have to take shelter. The last time, i literally hyperventalated and almost passed out. I constantly tell my husband that if the Tornado doesn’t kill me a Heart Attack will..! How can I rid myself of this Fear?? I have heard that if i’m scared of somthing my children will be born of the same fears.! i dont want this!!

It’s perfectly normal to be afraid of natural disasters or things that you don’t have control of, like the weather. Many people don’t take things like that as seriously as they should and, it may seem like they’re not scared, but they really are. Just direct your fear into making sure that everybody is getting to safety or that you are making sure that you and your family are safe.

I would say to either move somewhere tornadoes seldom visit, or reduce your fear by preparing for these storms ahead of time. Have a place already planned to go to during intense storms, and give some thought to what you might do if you were at some of the other places you frequent (stores, church, friends homes, etc. )
Your kids won’t be born with the same fears as you, but they might learn to be scared from watching how you react while they’re young.

Anyone that sees a tornado bearing down on them and says they aren’t afraid is full of ..well, ya know.
As for your kids in the future. If you show fear they will.
The best thing to do is get out of tornado alley.

tornadoes and thunderstorms are not the same thing.
thunderstorms can be scary, but won’t hurt you.
at any moment, there are 1,000 thunderstorms around the world.
there are far fewer than 1 tornado.
actually, one of the things i like is to sit on on the porch and watch a thunderstorm.
it really is quite amazing.
certainly i cannot "cure" you.
i can only tell you that you are more worried than you should be.
and no, your kids won’t be born with that fear.
you can, however, teach it to them.

Fear is normal. Overcoming this fear is your challenge.
Look for ways that can help you relax at these times. Calming music, if you enjoy cooking try making something interesting to help distract you.
Remember, there is always a shelter, so if you go there, everything will be fine right
Find YOUR way to relax.
