Tornado Shelters
…Financially, since the event.
How well did the building, car, shelter you were in hold up?
Was it fun-exciting or scary-exciting?

I’m gonna tell you about a tornado–two tornadoes.
We went on a business trip to Nashville, Tennessee a few years back. I met someone from my company at the airport (he was coming in from another location) and we got into one rental car together to go to the hotel since we were planning to visit the customer the following morning.
He’s driving. We’re looking for the hotel using the directions the car rental counter gave us, and I look up and see a TORNADO, a real, live twister in the rearview mirror! I yelled at him to turn, he’s asking if the hotel is in the direction I’m pointing to, and decides he wants to turn the other way.
As he gets into the lane to turn left (he still doesn’t see or believe there’s a tornado behind us) I peek around him and see ANOTHER tornado coming down the stree toward us!!! Yep, TWO tornadoes–one behind us and one coming from the left! I grabbed the steering wheel and gave it a hard jerk to the right. He finally catches on and starts hustling to the right, too.
We saw the two tornadoes come together in the rearview mirror. I almost wet myself with fright.
Oh yes, the Marriott was straight ahead; however, most of the staff had either gone home or not come in so we spent the entire night and early morning without food.
And, we didn’t get the deal the next day, either.

I worked as a weather observer at one time and it was kind of crazy and intense, during severe weather. I would be clear at 9-10am but by noon towering cumulus and 4-5pm heavy showers, thunderstorms and sometimes hail and/or Tornadoes. Very busy and exciting in a way.
