I live in NJ, about 45 minutes drive west of the shore in central Jersey. I’m really excited about this hurricane as it will be my first. I was originally going to Atlantic City for the weekend to get a closer look but I read now that they’ve put in mandatory evacuation. How can I go about experiencing the storm up close? The only thing I’m worried about during the storm is falling trees and being in wooded areas.

There’s been no reports on a tornado in my area but we were having severe thunderstorms and there was a tornado touched down in the field next to my house. It had moved over a little onto my side yard, and picked up the trash can and there’s trash and bags all over my yard now. It was only on the ground for about 30 seconds, but it was still a tornado. There’s trees down everywhere from it. I looked at NOAA and there’s no reports on tornadoes in my area, how can I report the one I saw?

I want to hear some good scary(or not scary) stories about the supernatural. Ghosts, monsters, spirits, demons, Bigfoot, poltergeists etc.

For me it would be this story.
When I was a little boy I lived in Birmingham Alabama. It was somewhere around 1998ish that there was a horrible tornado passing through where I lived, The strongest ever for that area, It was stronger than an F5, off the charts. Back to the story, I lived on the warrior river and My family had heard about it coming. We hid in the downstairs of the house as it was too late to leave and we didn’t have any storm shelter. I remember my mother saying her last prayers as she heard the tornado coming, we were going to die. I looked outside and I saw things flying everywhere and trees being ripped out of the ground. I was terrified. But then I looked up, and I saw four heavenly beings holding up our small house which otherwise would’ve been completely destroyed. When it was all over, we went outside and everything was destroyed, everything except for that little house of ours. My family was in awe, and they knew God had protected them. That is my proof of God.

Thanks—
Kaleb
Yes! it was that storm!

Given 3 criteria: geography, people and weather, I can’t think of a worse place.
The topography is similar to living on a parking lot, flat and no trees. Very isolated, the nearest big cities are 6-8 hours away.
The people are small minded and mean spirited, very religious, racist and intolerant.
Tornadoes and dry dusty climate. The dust storms are legendary, dust gets everywhere, even in your mouth and up your nose.

Everyone keeps telling me that basements are the best place to be during a storm but I can’t understand why. If trees fall on the house wouldn’t you get crushed if you are in the basement? I would think that standing near a door would be the best spot because you could escape easily if the house is about to fall down. I’m not talking about tornadoes. I’m just talking about severe storms.

I just installed the sims 2, but unfortunately the neighborhood screen looks messed up, huge patches of black, trees stretched over long distances, and on creat family it looks like a tornado went through, and the sims look messed up to. I dont know what is wrong, and I dont know how to change resolution. I’ve looked it up on here, tried some of the suggestions, but have had no luck. Please help, I beg you. I just had my computer fixed, new video card and all so I wouldnt have black and red flashing walls, or a purple ground.
And my computer is brand new, too.
I already reinstalled it as well. Its been like this since yesturday. Do glitches last this long?

it’s very windy here in Wisconsin. it’s gusting at 40-60 mph right now, and it’s suppose to be like this til tomorrow. many trees and power-lines are currently down. there was even a tornado near Milwaukee this morning in Racine.

Once there was a massive lightning attack above our neighborhood. It was terribly windy right before, knocking down some trees. It was just odd since we live in a hilly area.

***DURING THE 1700s***
How did people dress in the frontier? what were their clothes made of? who made the clothes? were did they get the clothes (like what animal or plant)? what did girls wear, what did men wear? what did women wear? what did boys wear?

what type of food did they eat? did they farm or hunt, how did they cook thir meals, what were the common foods they ate, did they all eat together, did they pray before they ate

What were their houses like? how did they build it, where did they live in, how was it inside, what did they have in their houses, who biult the houses?

What was the weather like? were there 4 seasons? what did they do in winter? in summer? in spring? in fall? when it rained? when it snowed? were there earthquakes or hurricanes or tornadoes?

What was their lifestyle? just describe thier life

What was the frontier like? what was the area like? what did it look like? lots of trees or lakes? lots of plants? lots of neighbors? big yards? was the ground soil or concrete or grass?

Each question is a paragraph so i need a lot of info. This is supposed to be a journal . i have to pretend im living in the frontier. Please give me a lot of info!
Thank you so much for wasting your precious time on me.
ALSO: how did they speak in the frontier? (Language and "old" words they used) what did they use to say mom and dad? Whats some other words they used?

Ok, so, I only have limited time to type this and pay attention to this question, because in the next 10-15 an "extremely violent tornado is headed straight for me, and it’s an extremely dangerous and life threatening situation." A severe thunderstorm generated an EXTREMELY severe tornado, and it’s expected to be a violent F-5!!! :( I was recently under a SNOW emergency and now a freakin’ tornado emergency! Ok, so, the point is, I have no-where to go! I am basically in the middle of the woods, and I have no basement because a few years ago we had a big fire and it destroyed our basement. Our bathroom has about 3 windows, and of course I can’t go outside and duck because there’s thousands of trees around me. Please help!!! Thanks.

can you please tell me what we seen or what happened? i’m thinking a tornado or waterspout but friends say its a freak thing that nobody will believe.

i live in wisconsin next a river. last night me and some friends where sitting outside on the patio. it was lighting out typical storm for our area. then around 2 a.m. everything went eerily quiet no wind no ran and in the distant you heard this sound of a jet plane (like when they fly right above) we sorta just shrugged it off as some idiot trying to fly well we had sever warnings out. it kept coming closer and ears hurt and i actually could hear the jet sound (i’m severly deaf) trees bent a bit more to east. i do remember at this time telling my friends i don’t feel good something is wrong with me they told me that of course i would be sick (9 weeks pregnant) its morning sickness eat a cracker. then my boyfriend made how his ears popped. i then told everyone how faint i felt and how everything seemed to be going in slow motion with this feeling like i could hardly breath. others said they felt that to but didn’t feel the rumbling i could. well all a sudden the lighting came faster and brighter with thunder that sounded like a motorcyle just starting up. i became so obsessed with this one lighting bolt that only hit in one spot then i noticed this white circle of like waves dancing in the water it jumped and moved oddly i told all my friends to look at it. suddenly one of my friends screamed "run get inside NOW!" so we did but as we got to the door the white circle in the river came closer to the edge and the wind was so strong it moved chairs and pushed you, the rain hurt when it hit your body. we made it in turned around and noticed there was a black rope like coming from just above the tree line across the lake going crooked to the lake. the thing the rope was attached to was a very very dark black whippsy cloud edge that was yet thick like cotton not normal thin clouds. when it was over it sounded like a jet plane had just move past you over head and left with a weird hiss sound and suddenly the pressure and everything went away. we went outside and no damage accept a few bird houses knocked down and some yard stuff tipped.
the lighting was ground to cloud. and we did spot a cloud in sky that had a bouncing orange tint ball bouncing but as soon as we noticed the the sound it was gone. but the black rope did lead to that cloud.

The motorized bicycle roared as I raced down the dirt trail. Around me, the wind howled and flung the trees back and forth. The sky was a strange color. I felt a pulling from behind me, and I turned around. The trailer had lost traction and was sliding through the grass. The back wheel got loose, and was throwing mud everywhere. It almost spun around, but I let go of the throttle and it regained its traction. I saw the old house in the distance, and once I was in the dirt clearing, I turned sharp. The trailer and the moped spun around, and Mike ran off the porch and threw himself into the trailer. I tore away from the house, having to pedal a bit to help the motor along. We bounced along on the trail, and hail started to fall. "Oh crud…" I muttered. I had it at full throttle. I saw the end of the trail where it came through a patch of trees onto the road, and went to it as fast as possible. We rocketed down the street, and the shelter at Bob Mac’s Body Shop came into view. I rolled up to the door, where there was a man in a yellow raincoat, trying to get everyone inside. I let Mike off, then I pushed the moped inside. There was at least a hundred people inside, and it was stuffy and humid, but safe. Suddenly, the hail outside just stopped. The whole room held its breath, waiting. Suddenly there was a sound like a train whistle, and the man in the raincoat shut the door and ran for the back of the room. The power went out, but there were kerosene lamps lit. Loud sounds were heard from outside. There was suddenly a crunching sound, followed by scraping. The scraping sound moved along the wall, and everyone’s eyes followed it. Suddenly it went up and was gone. The door trembled, and bits of concrete fell from the wall. There was a snap, then suddenly something boomed above us. We heard a cracking sound, then a beam fell from the ceiling, right over top of a person in a chair. It fell on top of a stout table, and it stopped just a few inches from the person’s head. Suddenly the wall burst in and a red minivan, crumpled almost beyond recognition, flew into the room and hit several people, who were then sucked out by the tornado. I felt myself being pulled towards the hole, so I grabbed a bit of rope that was tied to a pole next to me. I was lifted into the air, and the only thing keeping me in was my hand. Then it stopped. I fell to the ground. When I stood up, I was shocked. The building was ruined. People were missing. People were injured. People were… Dead. My stomach clenched. I felt faint. I felt my lunch come up and watched it go onto the ground. Then I stood up. Mike was next to me, white as a sheet and covered with dirt. The man opened what was left of the door and left us to go gather our dead. I grabbed my moped, and me and Mike walked out into the flooded street. Trees were strewn everywhere. Part of someone’s bedroom was crumpled up in the parking lot. Cars were flipped and broken, and the destruction was everywhere. Me and Mike walked into Broadway street and looked up and down it. The Braums sing was near the ruins of the Ice House, and the D from Dollar General was on top of a car overturned in the street. "Edgar, I think we’re in trouble. There’s our mailbox."
This is just the beginning… I’m not even sure if I can go anywhere with it…

We live in a valley and are surrounded by trees….a tornado warning has been issued for our area and we fully intend to take the appropriate safety procedures, but for our own peace of mind we were just wondering if we are less/more likely to be affected by a tornado….
Thanks for the serious answer Todd!! Everyone else only seemed interested in being a-holes and not actually answering my question..thought thats what this site was for..anyhoo…hope you weathered the storm as well as we have been and thanks for the links! :)

We have 6 cats and a huge mutt. we live in a garage apt. in the country and we are surrounded by huge, and I mean HUGE trees.
We are expecting tornadoes and 50 mph winds, 5 inches of rain in 1 day, etc. Well, it is 12:02 a.m. Tuesday and we have no place to go. Last time I went to my b.f.’s with all the pets but we cant go there anymore cuz a tornado caused a 300 yr. old oak to fall right in the center of it and smashed it!! So, what would you folks do? The dog is in the garage right now, and I feel that is the safest place to be. Normally, I would load everyone up in the car but we only have 1 car and there would be no room for cages and the huge dog. Please let me know what you folks would do, especially before we lose the power! And there are no shelters to take all of us. thanx, and please wish us luck!!!!!!!!!
Nature girl, I want to personally thank you for your answer. How you managed to get out of the house fire with all of your animals is beyond me! All of my animals are rescue animals as well. We have lived thru much worse weather, and even tho this is ‘only’ a tropical storm, we can get hurricaine winds. I can’t squeeze everyone in the bathroom, there is just no way, so, we will just have to play things by ear. No matter where the kitties are hiding I can always find them, and only if a tree falls on the roof will we be in danger. I WONT even think about a tornado!!! Puhleeze!!! But this sure as heck aint no Katrina, but we are going to get hit the hardest in all of Florida – just my luck, lol!

thanx to all the well-wishers out there, but Nature Girl, you gave me strength! thanx again! – Lauren

Several f4 and f5 tornadoes are heading my way and I’m scared to death! I need to get stuff quick and wake up my dad before they come. What do I need. Also we aren’t done with our storm shelter so do you think it’s safe enough? It is like a regular room except it’s out side of our house and it has concrete block walls. The door will surely come off and I’m afraid of getting sucked into the tornado. The only think it will really protect us from is maybe trees and stuff. I keep picturing my parents or me being sucked into the tornado or a tree flying into my dad’s head and killing him. PLEASE HELP ME!

First, let me say that I live in a subdivision of nothing but mobile homes so there are no sturdy buildings nearby that I can hide in. We only have ONE level so don’t waste time saying to get to the lowest level of my house. I live in Georgia and while we aren’t expected to get the worst weather today, I am still extremely scared of getting a tornado. There is no sturdy shelter I can rely on. The houses here may as well be made of paper. We only have satelite tv so if it gets too cloudy we won’t be able to see any warnings that are issued. Same if the power goes out. And we don’t have any radios either. So what can I honestly do to protect myself? There are lots of trees around our house too. There’s a ditch but it’s at the end of our driveway beside the street….pretty much out in the open. Everyone here says we could just go under the house but I’m scared of it blowing over/away or falling on top of me. Warnings usually say to get out of mobile homes but….There’s nowhere for me to go. What can I do? Just sit here and wait to die? I’m terrified of even little storms. I don’t know what to do. My only defense against a tornado is to hope one doesn’t hit and that’s not very comforting. =(

Is it safe to seek shelter in the basement of a 13 story hospital during a tornado? My other option is to remain home. I have no windows in my bathroom, but live on a hill with plenty of trees surrounding my property. I have a one story, brick, simple home.

I’ve been watching many videos lately of the Yazoo City EF-4, and I kept noticing that despite the tornado’s strength, many homes in the densely-wooded areas outside of town remained very much intact, despite the fact that they took a direct hit. Can such a large plane of trees, say, "restrict" airflow from a tornado and disrupt circulation at the ground level, thereby decreasing the force of winds that impact the home shrouded in the woods?

Dear Mr. Contruction Manager,

I asked you for a copy of the appraisal back in May and you NEVER answered my email. If you would have answered my email back in May, I wouldn’t have asked Mr. Michael Anthony of the title agency, and Mr. Anthony wouldn’t have told me that you did owe me a copy of the appraisal, and I wouldn’t have had to ask you again. So thank you for being prompt and professional by answering my email 2 months after I originally asked you.

It looks like (yet again) that we are back at square one. Suntrust Mortgage has created yet another big problem for us. We are requesting the 15.15 (which is the remaining portion of the ,000.00) to pay the contractor’s bills for work/s they have completed and to also obtain their releases to obtain the “CO” from Hillsborough County. Be aware that I do not have the exact amounts for the contractor’s bills. If you want that information, please call Mr. Chris Braglin from Braglin Builders INC. at 813-695-0685. Again, I do not know the exact amounts for the contractor’s bills, so don’t ask me because you already have my answer.

These are the contactor’s that I am aware of that need payment:

1) Sal Electric: Electrical contractor that has performed the electrical work for our house.

2) A/C Contractor: A/C contractor that has performed the A/C work for our house.

3) Euro-Shutters: Hurricane shutter contractor that has performed the work for our house.

4) TECO: Local electrical power supply company. A certain amount must be paid before they do the final connection/meter installation to the house.

5) Hillsborough County Government: They require a certain amount of money to be paid for “Impact Fees” and/or etc… before they provide and/or release the “CO”.

6) Landscaping: Hillsborough County Government requires a certain amount of trees, grass, driveway and/or etc… before they provide and or release the “CO”.

7) Others: If any you can obtain those from builder.

Before we started the process/hassle to request the ,000.00, we had an ending balance of ,766.03 (according to Ms. Irene Hooper office meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 11:00AM EST) bringing our total to ,766.03. Your company led us to believe that we were going to receive the ,000.00 that we had requested, and maintain the balance of ,773.03. If you, or someone else in your company, would have followed their legal obligation of informing us that we would only receive ,584.85 (0.506%), and you and your company would be holding the remaining ,415.15 (0.493%), we would have most definitely went another route. I don’t understand how you and your company, fully knowing that we were approximately ,000 short of finishing the construction of our home, let us apply for the ,000 we need to finish our house, only to give us half and leave us in the exact same position (if not worse) then we were in before we applied for the increase. We feel that your company intentionally tricked us. We do not like this situation at all and it doesn’t look like it’s going to end favorable. Like we have said before, and like we are saying again now, we do not have the money to pay out and wait for you and your company to reimburse us.

On top of those fiascos, you and your company want inspection after inspection after inspection after each “penny” draw for 0 a pop! We already don’t have the money to pay the electricians, the euro-shutter guys, the a/c guys, TECO, Hillsborough County, and all the landscaping things the county requires to obtain the “CO”, and you and your company wants to make the situation worse by charging us 0 for each “penny” draw? All of these inconveniences are going to cause my builder to pass the extension date of August 1st and then we will have to pay you and your company another 0 to receive another extension. Like you and your company aren’t making enough money off the interest we are paying on the mortgage! You and your company LOANED us the money for the house and most of these delays/problems we have been having were cause by you and your company changing our contract managers every couple of months. It’s become pretty clear that you and your company orchestrated these events to keep on ******* us.

We aren’t going to suggest anything. Tell us what you and your company is going to do (or not do) to solve this mess, since no matter what we try to do to get things going and get our house finished, you and your company finds another way to **** us. Like the interest we pay isn’t a ******* enough in itself…

One night all of them have been out of town, well its a different town that i don’t know, but it has a few distinct stores that are in my town for example. One of them there was tornado’s every where and my entire family was with me and we went to take shelter in a bowling alley, in the bowling alley someone tried to rob my grandmother, and she got stabbed, then my husband went after him, but there was a whole gang of robbers, and they mauled my husband, the original one ran off, ( and at this point in time the bowling alley looked like a movie theater with lanes) he happen to run in to some of my husbands friends, then took care of the robber. My husband then came back fine, …………
another we was traveling down the amazon river (leaves, bugs, trees, snakes, and alligators,) the whole nine yards. We walked and walked and swam exc… then we come to an old abandoned shack on the river bank. we go in to rest. in the middle of the floor there was a huge open crack. when you went near the crack you could here a family of rattle snakes under. so we put a big rug over it so the rattle snakes could not come up. we continued on out trip and when we finally got there we were in Kansas. We stayed at a gas station/motel. there was a very pretty attendant. it turns out the reason we went down the amazon river was to get his car from ks. so we come back the next day and we are driving up by a friends house and he is mad. i asked him what was wrong and he said they woulnt let me move back with my car. and im like wwwwhwwwhat???? and he said that they said it attracts the mosquitos, i looked around the inside of the car and the entire car was covered with them the size of dragon flies. then i asked when he was planning on telling me he was moving, and he said that he figured that i would have figured it out for myself by now, that he was in love with that lady at the gas station in ks, and why did i think his car was down there in the first place….

if some one could help me with what maybe some of my dreams mean, when i have a bad one that seems really realistic, like my husband cheating on me, i wake up mad, i just cant stop thikning about it. thanks
