I live in southwestern Ontario which was battered by severe thunderstorms, great show put on by Mother Nature! Anyways, my area was upgraded from a tornado watch to a tornado warning. We didn’t bother running down to our basement only because there wasn’t any hail falling in our area. However, we were glued to our television for local weather reports/updates and all. Anyways, I know it’s much wiser to go to the basement because a tornado warning is only issued if one is imminent and/or spotted on the ground. So were we being stupid for ignoring the warning because there was no hail? We just figured hail needs to be present before a tornado might strike. So my question is….
HAVE TORNADOES EVER FORMED WITHOUT THE PRESENCE OF HAIL OR DOES HAIL HAVE TO BE PRESENT?
*No tornado occurred in my area just in case you’re wondering : ) Just an amazing thunder and lightning storm Mother Nature put on to watch! Thanks for any input you give! : )

My one story apartment, i’m pretty sure would be history if a tornado were ever to hit it, considering it was once picked up and moved from a different location. So, I don’t plan on it sheltering me from a tornado, I would be a sitting duck in here. How would you suggest I protect myself? How could I know one is coming, what would the weather be like, is there always a tornado warning? Is it always very windy before a tornado, should I make way in my car? etc. Thanks.

So, I am writing this as we have a tornado warning in the middle of California, in the summer… (That lovely thunder) _"_. There have been several tornado near Sacramento this year, if this becomes the normal due to climate change and extreme weather, will we have to install basements or shelters?
Are they going to expect more tornadoes in the future years to come or is this just out of pure luck?

I’m currently in a LDR, and yesterday had a Tornado warning in my area. Mere moments after getting off the phone with my gf, I sent a text that said "OMG, there’s a f—ing tornado touching down right by us"…and got no response….for the rest of the night. 3 hours later (thankfully the tornado funnel dissipated and bad weather cleared), i sent another text saying "yeah, the tornado warning was real…thanks for your concern 
", and still nothing. Today, all I got was a text that said "I just woke up". I’m 99.9% sure my text was received since it was sent less than 5 minutes of us getting off the phone, and even if it (for whatever reason) did not go through, my status on fb says "the tornado did not touch the ground, thank Jesus", so there was no question regarding the turn of events that took place. I just hope I’m over-thinking it, but IDK…was this a lack of regard for me and my children’s (did I mention I had kids from a previous relationship? well, i do, lol) safety? Help me out. We bought our first home last summer and it’s a one story slab with no basement. It’s also only about 1,200 square feet…2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and there really isn’t a room or usable space in the middle of the house with no windows that we could utilize during a tornado warning. I guess there is a closet, but it’s full of shelves and there wouldn’t be enough room for myself, my husband, our 18 month old and our pets. We live in Kansas, which is right along "tornado alley" and we experience several tornado warnings every season, although I’ve only seen 1 tornado in person after living here my whole life. But the deadly storms in the south have lit a fire under me and I want to establish some sort of plan like NOW but I don’t know what I could do or where we could go. It’s generally discouraged to travel during a tornado warning, but do you think in our case it would be a bad idea to find a business or building of some kind near us (there are several I have in mind that are mere blocks away from our house) to go to?

ok this question may be long and i don’t want any rude, dumb comments please. well i live in tornado alley (nebraska,south sioux city) and my 16 years of living here there hasn’t been a tornado that struck the town. ( not in my 16 yrs of living here, im not sure before that. ) and i thought that we didn’t live in tornado alley so i didn’t worry about tornado’s until we heard the sirens and a tornado struck in a little town not far from where we live and ever since then ive become traumatized and im afraid that every severe thunderstorm can mean that a tornado can form. ive asked people if they think a tornado can hit our town and one person said no because there hasn’t been a tornado, i want to believe that but i get an uneasy feeling that maybe one day it will be our turn and i don’t feel prepared. the second person said yes that a tornado can hit our town and that sooner or later it will but i don’t want to believe it. are there any states that are in tornado alley that have never been hit by tornado’s or that just because they live in tornado alley doesn’t mean they have to get hit by tornado’s? and what disturbs me also is that people aren’t scared if a tornado hit our town and also my parents are divorced so im always worried about my mom because she doesn’t know if theres a tornado warning ( she doesn’t watch the weather news and i tried making her but shes stubborn so i have to keep informed and i think her basement is not good shelter but she probably wont leave the house for another shelter ) if u can help with some of these questions i asked and maybe calm me down a bit because ive become such a worrywart ever since i experienced this :/ thanks

After all this bad weather,it got me thinking about last month and the weather I had.We had severe storms, the winds reached 85 mph in some areas and gusts were up to 100 MPH on a bridge.At around 7PM our weather issued a Tornado Warning for my town.my family didn’t do anything we just went about our business.Nothing ever came….I thought warnings means a Tornado was spotted…I mean our house did shake for about 5 minutes and there was a strange rumbling sound.But I didn’t see anything.
And something did hit my sister’s house.But other than that, there was nothing but hail,wind and ground lighting.Why would they Issue a warning.It should be a watch.We had a watch, then they upgraded a warning and nothing came.My brother was the only one sitting the hallway, We all told him,their bluffing(Not that this should be something we should say…I already know you should seek shelter when its a warning,but they always bluff down here)
Ugh and speaking of storms, Its starting to get nasty outside now.I hate storms at night.I can’t see a thing.
My brother was crying.
But my nephew and nieces were running around saying this is awesome, the house is shaking.And my mom continued cooking dinner, while my brother ran into the hallway with a blanket over his head.My mother was like "Your a nut case what the heck are you doing in the hall"

Like, say it’s 11, 12, or 1 o’clock at night, and a severe thunderstorm warning or even a tornado warning has been issued. How would you know that one has been issued if you are asleep, so you can take safety action if necessary? You don’t want to wake up to a tornado it your backyard, do you? ?

earlier today we had a tornado warning and the weather was getting severe and my mom had appearntly heard from someone that an evacuation of the area was possible(which btw never happened). Well after that when she told me i said that i am definitely gonna evacuate the house just because of a tornado, we have a basement so i would have gone down there cause i believe it is stupid to make people evacuate their own house just cause of something stupid like that when if you know what to do you could perfectly keep yourself safe. Yes i know they do it for your own safety(i honestly could have cared less if i would have died) but if the evacuation would have occurred and i didnt leave would they have done anything or have just left me there to die?

on 7/22/10 all the local news channels said there was very high risk of severe t-storms. So in the morning it just start off as raining(I forgot to mention I live se Wisconsin) normal for where i live.Then it cleared up for about three hours,which I though it was going to be nice so I took a walk and rode my bike. Then I went inside.I then went to play the wii.Then my cousin came down an said there was a tornado warning for dodge county, which is above us so I didn’t worry that much.Then around it start to get dark I went up stairs to see why.it was greenish(which means hail).We went outside to watch the storm at first it was just a little windy.It just got winder and winder.At first we had a severe t-storm watch and flood warning,then it was upgrade to tornado watch and flash flood watch.A severe t-storm was issued,small hail began to fall and got very windy.Then tornado sirens went off your neighbors were outside and they came in.So we watch tmj4. then a tornado warning was issued for germeantown (right above us).Golf ball sized hail began to fall and there were down burst. there was a tornado warning for us.We got my cats cage her food and water bowl some of her toys and her food.We got some food and water and blankets my cell phone my parents money my computer.Then the siren went off, it was lighting like crazy.My cat was terrified,So we gave her cat calming pills.After the storm it was big mess

For me it is tornadoes. I like watching them on video, or (if I ever see one in real life) from a long distance. The thought of a tornado scares me because it is an unpredictable storm that touched the ground. I prefer storms when they are up in the sky and won’t kill me if I get within a mile of them.
Yeah there was a tornado warning in Florida a while away from where I live today, I was FREAKED OUT!

So, I have been nervous during bad weather ever since I was little. This tornado season in Minnesota though,seems to be out of control. Like everyday, there seems to be a tornado watch. So this season, I’ve been scared to death. During even cloudy weather, my heart beats fast. Tornado watches, I get a little shaky. Tornado warning, or looks really bad out, I’m petrified. How can I help this. I know all the safety precautions, I live in a stable house in the suburbs, and know the chances of my house being hit by a tornado. I am still scared to death. What can I do? I don’t want to go to a psychiatrist or anything like that, thanks!

So I called my friend on monday evening because they issued a tornado warning for her area and at first she didn’t pick up the phone but shortly after 30 minutes she returned my call after the storm passed by her area. She said she didn’t know they issued one and said her phone didn’t ring either and she said thank you for letting me know. Was it bad to call her and let her know ?? I care about her a lot and I secretly love her.

I’m going to this concert this evening in downtown, in the city where the concert is taking place there is a lot of severe weather & severe thunderstorms happening right now. In fact the weather service has issued a tornado watch until 2am in the morning, it is 2:30pm right now and the show is in 5 hours from now. I’m concered with if they will do anything for safety if they ever issue a tornado warning. The concert is going to be filmed by professional people during the show performance. Would they do anything if the national weather service issues a tornado warning during the live taping or they would just ignore it ? I don’t want to be enjoying the concert with my girlfriend and then dieing because they didn’t do anything.

I am frantic and i am scared to death by tornadoes, the other day i was at work in my office building on the 30th floor and i saw the weather getting pretty bad with all the lightning and rain so i decided to go home and check on my wife. So immediately i left what i was doing and head for the express elevator, on the way down i got an weather channel notice on my iphone of a tornado warning and franticly rushed home. So i drove home on the interstate and the weather was pretty bad while everyone was seeking shelters as the sirens went off like crazy for 45 minutes. When i got home my wife was in the closet and she asked me why i left work, i said i was scared that she would’ve gotten hurt. She started crying and said why did you risk your life running home like that, you could have gotten killed and left me. She said that she would’ve been perfectly fine and that i should see my doctor because of how paranoid i am with these tornadoes. Do you think i should go see my doctor like she told me ? She said she doesn’t want me to do this again because she said i might not be lucky next time. The tornado didn’t hit us it dissipated about a mile from our house.
