like im not sure if i should talk to a psychiatrist, or a psychologist, or a counciller or whoever deals with phobias.

In a recent thunderstorm, my town took matters into it’s own hands and issued its own tornado warning. (Which could only legally extend to city limits). This was because a police officer reported a funnel(which was only scud). They sounded the sirens and everyone took cover, only for the warning to be taken back minutes later. Now many people are mad at the town. Is this kind of thing allowed?

40mph is said to be F0 grade on the Fujita scale, but dust devils are said to reach speeds in excess of 60 mph. They’re said to never be counted as tornadoes(Twister, Fury on the Plains video) Tornadoes are said to have thunderstorm connections, but something I found online said a lot of twisters have formed w/ no sign of lightning, so what’s the difference b/n that & a fair weather type thermal? Tornadoes also don’t always have visible connections to parent clouds. What would you call a tornado that did meet all the profile characteristics, but only packed 35mph winds?

I understand that the Weather Service uses two types of alerts: Watches and Warnings.
Watch – conditions are favorable, and a tornado might happen today.
Warning – Seek shelter NOW!

15-20 years ago, a tornado warning meant "there’s a tornado on the ground, seek shelter NOW"
Today, it’s "there’s a thunderstorm spinning overhead. It might produce a tornado, but it often doesn’t".

To me, that shows a need for a third level of alert.

Watch – Don’t plan on spending the day outside.
(whatever the new term is) – Spinning thunderstorm in the area.
Warning – Seek shelter NOW! – Tornado on the ground.

we’ve got a tornado watch here and its the 1st one I remember
Last nite about 4 AM it started booming and crashing intensely and loudly but I just figured wow this is a good one (thunderstorm) and tryed to get back to sleep as best I could.
But today I find out we are under a tornado watch.
Should I be listening for something or leaving the radio on or what
When do I run for the cellar?

i live in north east iowa, and we our county is under a sever thunderstorm watch. the watch is covering almost all of our county. but there is also a tornado watch. and it is barley touching our county to the east. maybe a good 10miles of our county is under a tornado watch. while more then half is covered by a t storm watch. but they are broadcasting it as a full tornado watch. would the threat still be more toward sever things like hail and wind other then a tornado?

I keep having this recurring dream where my uncle Richard and I are trapped in a thunderstorm and we decide to run to the storm shelter. Once there Richard takes off his shirt and is glistening like a beautiful Greek demigod. He then asks me if I’d like to go jackoff in a tornado, and I oblige. We end up tying our belts to a utility pole and masturbate in the middle of a furious tornado.

What could this mean?

I need to do this to keep my A and i accidentally left my book at school!

1)Describe the life cycle of a thunderstorm.

2)What makes some thunderstorms more severe than others?

3)Explain how a hurricane forms.

4)Describe the weather pattern that causes droughts, and explain how it is similar to the weather pattern that causes a heat wave.

5) A community in Texas broadcasts public service announcements on tornado safety. Would the broadcast be more effective right before winter, spring, summer, or fall? Explain your answer.

6)Could a hurricane form over the northern Atlantic, off the eastern coast of Canada? Explain your answer.

7) Why are people who live along the coast or other low -lying areas often in more danger from hurricanes than people who live inland?

8) A Category 4 hurricane has just become a Catergory 5. Explain what has happened to air pressure in the storm and the strengh of its winds.

9) Could the atmospheric conditions that cause a drought also cause the formation of a suppercell? Explain your answer.

10) Why do weather forecasters often report the wind chill factor in winter?

Wow…. well thank u to whoever tries!!!!
in ur answer… can u please tell me if you’re sure that’s correct or if you’re taking a guess? thank u very much!!!!

I live in the midwest, Michigan to be exact – in a small suburb of Flint. We have been having odd weather lately – last night, a horrbile thunderstorm. The day before, scorching heat. The day before that – it was SUPER humid and windy! What the heck!

It’s not just us – it’s all of the midwest. 2 days ago in Milwaukee, WI there was a tornado warning. The next day, there was another one! In fact, there has been about 16 reported tornadoes in the midwest. Crazy! Anyone have any clue why this is happening? Anything is appreciated. :]

In the video below, they said that a thunderstorm was CAPABLE of producing a tornado. Wouldn’t a tornado watch be iissued instead of a warning since a watch indicates possible storm formation and a warning indicates a storm is already present or has been picked up by Doppler Radar?

I think that the heavier rain bands stay to the south of the eye, and the more thunderstorm-like cells stay to the north and east, but I don’t know if that’s right.

Thanks!

How does a cold front produce a super cell thunderstorm? And how does a super cell thunderstorm create a tornado? Please be specific.

we are under a tornado watch, but appear to be clear of thunderstorms. Is it possible to have a tornado without actually having a thunderstorm or rain clouds? Can tornados form out of regular old clouds due to wind sheer from a tropical system?

i’m just north of l.a., ca… it started getting pretty windy outside so i looked up the weather and there was a severe weather alert, this is what it says…

..THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. THE LOS ANGELES BASIN
IS EXPECTED TO RECEIVE MOST OF ITS RAINFALL FRIDAY AFTERNOON INTO
FRIDAY NIGHT. ANY THUNDERSTORM WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING BRIEF
HEAVY RAINS AND SMALL HAIL. DUE TO THE COLD AND UNSTABLE NATURE OF
THIS STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM…CONDITIONS WILL ALSO
BE FAVORABLE FOR POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT AND FUNNEL CLOUD ACTIVITY.

oops sorry for the CAPS it just copied it that way… but seriously though, waterspouts and funnel clouds? i’m from ohio so we have tornadoes pretty regularly… i’ve never heard of one out here, and i’ve talked to lots of people out here about tornadoes. i know they can happen anywhere… but this sounds like an exaggeration? is it going to be that bad?

ps – any time it rains here people think it’s a "storm" so…

What are the "safety shelters" along rural highways in Pennsylvania and Maryland (and probably other places) supposed to protect you from? They are the things that are all steel, roughly 7′x7′x7′ with an open front facing the road and some have a billboard on the side and/or a "safety shelter" triangular sign on top. Some are only a few hundred feet from each other, others are several miles apart. Is it supposed to be for people walking in the middle of nowhere if there’s a tornado or thunderstorm? They aren’t underground, so I’d probably rather stay in my car if the weather got severe and I was driving out there. Or are they cold war relics or something? They look to be like 50 or so years old.

Usually when there is a thunderstorm, I get really anxious and my heart start to beat fast. I also pace and can’t stay still for more than a couple of minutes. Severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings also worry me a lot more.

My internet connection during a thunderstorm nearly always goes down (I have Verizon high speed DSL). My television picture also goes down because I have Satellite.

This usually adds to my fear because I have no idea whats going on.

Anyways, what do you think I can do to drive away my fear of thunderstorms?

Thanks in advance,
Craig K.

I get extremely paranoid every time a thunderstorm starts that it’s going to fade into a tornado. So, what are some key differences to stop me from worrying so much?
Is the sky guaranteed to be darker? How will it feel outside?
