The profiteers are starting to take advantage of the Disaster market. Because of all of the national disasters….Katrina, the California fires, the Southern drought, tornadoes in the Midwest, companies are being formed that will charge a hefty fee and guarantee your evacuation before disasters can sweep you away, burn your house, or endanger your life.
With names like Helpjet or Special Clients Group, these companies will fly you out of harm’s way or, in case of fire, spray your home with retardant foam, even though your neighbor’s house may be going up in flames.
One such company is located in Pellston, MI, and will charge ,000, plus ,000 yearly. The question is, is it right to have the rich paying for rescue from disaster, while poor are stranded? Should affordable rescue be a right for every citizen? With our tax money funding FEMA, should these companies be denied licenses and all money be spent to improve rescue for all?
