The thing is many people in California and other places do not bother to buy tornado insurance making it more expensive for folks in Midwest. Lets make tornado insurance mandatory and this will increase the pool and everyone will be happy. I promise that rates will drop by 3000%
Are the fires still burning in Texas?
it is maddening with fires in Texas & tornadoes & predicted flooding in the Midwest. I do hope that none of our SCs are impacted.
How Do You Die In A Tornado?
I keep hearing from people that massive tornado storms have crossed in the US and that many people died. I hate to ask, well no because I am curious and I want to know now, but how do you die in a tornado??? What about a family of 5 that were in the basement?
Did all these people die from what? Do you die from being thrown? Being sucked into the actual tornado and the pressure popping your ears/lungs ect? Are you alive in the tornado for some time in pain knowing that you are flying around in the air? Do you die from shock? Or do you die from other objects being thrown onto you?
The Internet reports didn’t say anything how how.. All I’ve read is "208 people died from Midwest tornado" ect..
Sorry to be so gruesome but it’s been a question I can’t seem to get an answer from by myself.
Kratos.. That’s exactly what I was expecting I guess. That’s why I can’t figure it out on my own. No one survived to tell.. Totally right.
FIRST OFF I’m ALWAYS in the Parenting section and I don’t know how many responses I’ll get elsewhere. I don’t know how crowded other areas are so I’m asking here PLUS all the other areas.

Lit. e.e. cummings poems?!?
In “Miracles are to come” Cummings says that poems “are not for most people.” How does “what if a much of a which of a wind” seem to contradict that statement?
A) Most people have read that poem.
B) The poem is only about the life of one person—the poet himself.
C) The poem is about a disaster happening to most, or even all, people.
D) The poem praises selfishness at the expense of togetherness.
The poem “somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond” is mainly about the
A) speaker’s desire to travel to new places.
B) speaker’s wish to avoid arguments with his beloved.
C) power of words to make people fall in love.
D) speaker’s thoughts and feelings about his beloved.
In E. E. Cummings’s poem “what if a much of a which of a wind,” the images describe
A) a tornado in the Midwest.
B) the destruction of the universe.
C) a gravitational problem.
D) global weather changes.
Wordplay is part of Cummings’s style. Which passage from “what if a much of a which of a wind” uses the spellings of words to make a clever point?
A) “blow friend to fiend”
B) “bites this universe in two”
C) “yanks immortal stars awry”
D) “blow pity to envy”
Inventive grammar is part of Cummings’s style. If a Cummings sentence were given standard capitalization and punctuation, it would still include nonstandard syntax and grammar. Which rewritten sentence below still uses nonstandard grammar?
A) Nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands.
B) Your slightest look will easily enclose me.
C) The most who die, the more we live.
D) I do not know what it is about you that closes and opens.
Nonstandard syntax, or sentence structure, is part of E. E. Cummings’s style. If the first two lines of “somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond” were rewritten as a sentence that used standard syntax and mechanics, they would be:
A) Somewhere I have traveled gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence.
B) Somewhere I have never traveled, gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence.
C) Somewhere I have never traveled. Gladly beyond all experience, your eyes have their silence.
D) Somewhere I have never traveled. Gladly beyond all experience. Your eyes have their silence.
I have read every poem over and OVER again. I just can’t seem to figure them out! please help me out, it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Was this the biggest tornado outbreak ever?
Everyone probably knows by now about the enormous tornado outbreak that has occured in the midwest and the south. I was looking at the storm reports for the past couple days and the tornado reports total well over two hundred. If most of these are confirmed, then that would beat the Super Outbreak in 1974 which only had one hundred forty something tornadoes.
How do you get tornadoes, freezing rain and snow the same day after an 81 degree weekend?
Such is life in the midwest. We are under siege.
obviously not on a coast or most of the midwest, and besides the desert is there anywhere else it is very unlikely for either of these?
Is La Nina fading? This La Nina is nothing like the 2009 or 2008 La Ninas?
Normally, La Nina Winters are dry and warm here in South Texas. December of 2010 was the classic La Nina winter month. We did not receive any rain at all during the month, and averaged 3 degrees above average. However, there were some not so La Nina type weather in other parts of the country.
Florida saw one of its coldest Decembers on record – something not normal for a "strong" La Nina.
The extreme snowfall of the Midwest was normal.
The wettest December on record for Southern California was not.
I can understand if this were a weak La Nina ( weak La Ninas and weak El Ninos can flip either way )
However, in moderate to strong La Ninas, the history is pretty straight forward.
The last La Nina winter, 2008-2009 yielded the worst drought in Texas since 1917 for the 2009 year, along with the hottest summer in the states history. January 2009 was the 10th coldest of record for Chicago with -18 on the 16th.
Fastforward to this January La Nina now. Chicago has yet to record any sub-zero temperatures for the winter.
In my town, we had our first tornado on record in South Texas a week ago ( a longtract 21 mile tornado)
This weekend, a second Low Pressure system yielded 2.5 inches of rain on Saturday night/Sunday morning, adding to the 1.50 that fell last week.
Winter is normally our dryest time of the year, and January, being the dryest month of the year.
In La Nina winters, we average only a half inch of rain in January. This month, we have had nearly 4 inches – in fact, we are in the top 10 wettest on record just from two thunderstorms.
Extreme cold has been absent from the upper midwest – La Ninas are famous for their supercold in this region.
I just heard on the local news station, here in NC, that there is a possibility of a Tornado happening tomorrow near my town. Anyways, the weather man on the news station said something like a warm front meeting a cold front, which would make this tornado happen. I don’t even live in tornado alley. We get tornado’s here, but not like the one’s in the Midwest like Kansas and Oklahoma. What is awkward about this warning is the fact that it is pretty much in December and tornado’s don’t usually happen at this time of year. Also, when the local weather man made this announcement on the news, he even said it is way out of the ordinary for this to happen, and immediately after he said this, they immediately went to the sports segment of the news, making this situation more intense. How come North Carolina is getting a possible tornado warning for tomorrow in dang December? I don’t mean to be an alarmist, but something doesn’t sound right here. It seems the weather patterns have changed over the years.
Tornado Alley?
Our local meteorologist in Oklahoma City was pondering the possibility that tornado alley is migrating east to the midwest (places like Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky). They have had it bad the last couple of years, and we have had rather disappointing (if you’re a weather enthusiast) storm seasons here in Oklahoma those two years. What is the possibility that tornado alley could really be moving, or is it more likely that this is just a natural cycle?
I planned to move to USA, but is not afraid by hearing about it is dangerous?
I went for vacation there. And I loved it. I am in 8th grade and want to do high school there. I also found a company that is ready to hire me as part time job, USA have good market on things that I do such as 3D animation, web designing and visual effects.
But now I heard somewhere that USA gets freezing temperatures (the midwest can drop to 30 below zero), and snowstorms, a lot of tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and places like California experience earthquakes. They’re talking about the "Big One" that has a 99% chance of hitting California within 20 years.
I’m now really afraid about it. What should I do?
does everywhere in the world have a risk of some kind of natuaral disaster?
like in california they have earthquakes, and there is a risk for hurricanes in the gulf and along the east coast. the midwest has the threat of tornadoes in the spring and summer months, and there can be fierce blizzards in the rockies
I have never been in a tornado, perhaps watches or warnings on occassion, living in the midwest. i have had tornado dreams at sporadic and random points in my life and never been able to pinpoint what they might mean…any ideas?
should i be concerned to travel to oklahoma city?
i’m a huge USA softball fan and at the end of july the world cup of softball is taking place in oklahoma city. i really want my parents to take me there for 3 or 4 days to go watch. i’ve never been to the midwest but i know oklahoma is in tornado alley. i’ve never experienced a tornado but i’m very scared of them. would the tornadoes in oklahoma be a reason of concern to not travel there?
Tornadoes in the Midwest – What is God telling us?
I live in in the Midwest, and we recently had 7 tornadoes pass through this area. With the volcanoes and earthquakes, people were pointing to loose women, homosexuals, the US in iraq, or whatever else.
What sins are we in the Midwest guilty of?

What is Tulsa, OK like to live in?
I don’t want to sound naive but I have been a California girl my whole life. I was born and raised in San Diego and have never really traveled to the midwest. I am thinking about moving out there for job opportunities and cheaper housing but am nervous about a big change. Some of these may sound like dumb concerns so I apologize in advance.
How is the weather? does it get really hot or does it snow?
How often are there tornadoes?
Are there a variety of restaurants (sushi, thai, mexican, chinese)?
Is there any place close by to fish, camp, or shoot guns?
Is there a good school system?
I know it’s a lot of questions but I want to know what it is like in general and what are some big differences between SD and Tulsa besides the absence of the ocean. Thank you for any help.
Did they deserve it…….?
No one deserve any kind of natural disaster. People dont say that people in California deserve it and it happens all the time. So whats the revenge for people/states where catastrophes happen often. Someone once said it was God’s wrath on southern states when they get hurricanes in the south because of slavery. Now doesn’t that sound dumb too but to the people who think its God’s revenge on haiti for voodoo should believe the same thing. What’s the revenge for Tornadoes in the midwest? What was the revenge for for the tsunami in Thailand. Just because it’s black people it has to be sometype of God’s wrath?

@armywife…no iwas referring to the links of prev ?s asked…
Doesn't it seem strange that to anyone else that natural disasters are happening more frequently?
Doesn’t it seem strange that to anyone else that the wildfires are happening in California, and hurricanes happen frequently in Florida & Louisiana and other gulf states, and that there are tornadoes more frequently in the midwestern states?? Do you think God is showing his wrath?? I know for a fact that alot of "natural disasters" happen in these areas…and I truly believe that God’s Wrath is sparking these situations. What do you believe?
There is alot of nasty things going on in places like Florida (Filthy Rich, Notoriety, common place for sexual mayhem) California (Filthy Rich & Notoriety, also known for sexual mayhem), Louisiana (Mardi Gras, we all know what that’s about!!)….and Lord only knows about the Midwest…..I see a pattern here!!! / :
Is God smiting America?
Tornadoes in the south, Blizzards and Ice Storms in the Midwest, Earthquakes in California…….
Why almost everyone throughout the U.S. act like New Orleans is the only place that has Natural Disasters?
Ever since Hurricane Katrina most people throughout the United States acted like(and still acts like to this day)that New Orleans is the only place to flood when there’s other cities like Miami and Houston that floods.
And the real reason why New Orleans had flooded because of the Levees that weren’t properly built and was disrupted by Katrina’s storm surge.
And there’s other places in the U.S. that has Natural Disasters also: California has Earthquakes, the Midwest has Tornados, New York City can get hit by a Hurricane and that city is not prepared for a hurricane, and Seattle has Volcanos and Tsunamis.
Microchipping my horse?
So…I just moved out to the midwest and finally realized yesterday that, yes, they do get tornados and no, you do not get much warning when they are coming.
My horse has only been at his new barn a few days and it is 15 miles out in the middle of nowhere. So my worry is that he will get out/be let out in a tornado, be completely freaked out because he is a sunny california horse who has never experienced wind speeds over 15mph, and go decide to join the mustangs by running off miles into the fields.
Would it be worth it to get him a chip? My dogs are chipped, but how do horse ones work? Are they usually something checked when a horse is found? How much do they cost?
I live in Northern Westchester County, NY. About 50 miles north of
NYC. I always heard tornado warnings in other parts of the country like The Midwest and the South. I read that tornadoes have occurred in all 50 US states. I want to know why there hasn’t been any tornadoes or why they are so rare here. Someone told me its because theres too many hills. Why is it not happening here.
Who can Help me on Weather and Geography?
Okay……….I’m going to ask you a lot of questions so please pe patient because I really need to know this.
What are the major cities in Tornado Alley?
Is the Midwest or Northeast colder in the winter?
What is the coldest Southern, Wester, Northeastern, and Midwestern state?
What is the most "mid western" state?
Which states are the hottest to coldest? Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada or California?
What is the muggiest southern states, also including Hawaii?
Which region gets the most snow? Pacific West (not including Alaska, Southwest, Midwest, New England, Mid Atlantic, South, Mountain, or Great Plains?
Of that region, which one is the coldest, driest, wettest, snowiest, warmest, and most densely populated?
