I am thinking about relocating.. I want to be in the suburbs or just outside of.. rural..but not too much. Safety is a huge concern. Where I live in Wisconsin the crime is very very low. The roads are not at all whatsoever congested. Which is why there are hardly any car accidents. I like that and will miss both. However.. I fell in love with the beauty of Oregon. Wisconsin has beauty also.. I would actually consider staying.. if there were more jobs and less brutal winters. There is a lot of land here.. but the tornado threats scare me. I want to buy land one day to build a home.. and with the tornados its hard to imagine here. Winters don’t allow you to go anywhere.. and you call out of work a lot. I am an Esthetician.. who works at a day spa. This is my career.. Will I be able to find work prior to coming there somehow? Or once there? I have a liscense. It would be a shame if I can’t .. but.. don’t want to find this out once there. I am paying for rent 650.00 a month for an apartment… only and I pay all utilities which brings that way.. way .. up. So.. Oregon seems to be more affordable.. with more beauty.. Here its all farm. No mountains.. A Lot of lakes.. but.. I miss the oceans .. light houses etc. How is the economy.. unemployment? Is there a whole sale grocery store. We have Woodmans here and everything is a few dollars less then at a regular priced one. The bakeries and pizza here are horrible. The snow never melts and the single digits.. are freeezing and you can’t get around much. Crime is low.. low low.. and I have to drive a far ways to get places and do things.. I do live in a small small town.. that has many shops .. but other then that. I can’t save here.. from driving far.. hibrinating all winter.. and going stretches when a job is hard to find. Please Help. Thanks

She’s a single mother of two and very poor. She lost her job due to a hurricane and had apparently sold her car about a week before the storm hit. She spent the money on buying supplies for the storm since she had no way to leave. FEMA is gay and will not help because she was living in a hotel. They didn’t even offer to help her pay to stay there. She is now working in the hotel she was staying at but they are paying her only 3 dollars a room to clean and its a small hotel. She needs a car bad and no one will help her or can help her. What can she do?

It is realy sad because they offered her food stamps but no way to get another job or back and forth to this job. Her EX never pays child support and he’s in jail so there will be no "going after him" he’s already in jail so they can’t do much there. POS CPS came to her hotel room after people reported she was prosituting and the kids were eating out of the garbage. This is F’D up since she would never prostitute and I help her buy food and i know there is always food there. CPS caseworkers should be shot IMO and they are lucky i was not there when they said these things. I respect this woman but I cannot help her with a car because I do not make that much. BTW this is the 4th time someone has called CPS on her and everytime they leave with no findings and everytime they never say "Sorry" ever.

I need answers and saving to buy one is hardly an option at this point, she needs to go back to work.

My area was devastated by Hurricane Ike. I went to a POD site near my workplace one day last week during lunch and it was my only visit. There was no power at work at the time but I did have power at home. The only supplies I picked up was 2 bags of ice, 1 case of water, and 3 single MREs. When I got back several people in the office started yelling at me about taking food away from families and children in desperate need. I know 2 of these people who were yelling at me had been going to the POD site every single day (bragged about how much they had stockpiled at home) and neither of them have kids. The next day when I came in to work there was photo of a child starving in Africa taped to my computer along with a note that said "Thanks to you this is what will happen to a family you greedy selfish whore". The only reason I got the supplies is that I had no money except for what little cash was in my wallet, and the cash was needed for gas since I live over 30 miles from my job. The ice and water were because I had been ill for several days and I finally got to a point where I just needed some cold water.

Let me start off by saying, I’m a very organized, clean, neat person when it comes to myself and my job. But for some reson, I can’t seem to bring myself to be like that with my apartment.
My apartment looks like its been raided by the cops, a tornado hit it, and no ones lived there for months.
I’m only 23 but I’ve been living on my own since I was 17. Until the age of 17 I was forced to wake up at 5am every day and clean the house for 2 hours. I’m talking about scrubbing the bathtub with bleach and a toothbrush since the age of 5.
But now, living alone,I just can’t seem to get up and start cleaning. No matter how bad I feel about it and how much I want to change it, I just can’t seem to do it. As soon as I promise myself I will have a weekend of cleaning, I hit the couch and sit there the entire time, almost paralyzed.
I really need to get my home to be the way I picture it.
PLEASE, any suggestions, tips, advice???

okay well im in NY currently and I will be moving to Florida in about 6 months. I will have a secure job down there while I go to college, and was just curious if theres anything I should know. My sister is a young single mother of three. She doesnt pick the right men both fathers are scumbags that wripped my sister off for everything she had. She use to have a huge beautiful 3/2 with a backyard and a pool. Then daddy #1 robbed her house of everything forcing her to sell the house that my deceased father bought her. And move into a trailer park. Hurricane wilma came and destroyed her park. Daddy #2 stole the rent money twice. Forcing her to again move out of her home and into mine. So now we have 9 people living in a 3/2 house. I’m asking for whatever you can. Diapers are a great donations, bottles, wipes, school clothes and supplies. I’m only asking for things for my sister and her kids. the girls are 8 and 10 going in the 3rd and 5th grade and then jake is 2. Since i’ve heard on television on the news back in 1999 about the deadliest may 3rd 1999 tornado outbreak in history, i never would want to move here if it wasn’t for my job. But does anything like that ever happen here often ? People said that tornadoes here in Oklahoma forms into the deadly F5 tornadoes that is about a mile wide in diameter. What are some ways i could make sure my wife & family is safe during one of these outbreaks if I’m away from home ? Also, how could i keep myself safe if i am on the 34th floor in an building with only express elevators ? The elevators don’t have stops between floors Lobby – 29th. I’m very curious about my family’s safety and mine’s in case if one of these tornado outbreaks occurs

I live in Minnesota and hate winter. My family and I have been talking about moving to a place with a great climate and I fell in love with the climate and Downtown photos of Tulsa, OK. I was wondering if it is different economically there. Will it be as easy to find a job with satisfactory earnings as it is here? I notices that the cost of living is significantly cheaper. But how much is a gallon of gas, or milk?

I need information on Tulsa, or on other nice places in the US that have a nice climate (preferably not much snow, no hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes or volcanoes. And I am not into cockroaches that are larger than the tip of my finger.

We are also used to living in the outskirts of a Metropolitan area, and enjoy hevily populated areas.

They won’t LEAVE. WHAT can I DO? HELP!!!!!?
My mother and brother came to live with me two years ago after a tornado destroyed their house in another state.

Since then, my husband left for another woman 9 months after they arrived and they are driving me nuts so much that I wish that I could leave.

My brother wakes up all hours of the night. He is 44 years old and hasn’t had a job in 10 years. He is walking around and wakes me up.

My mother is negative and controlling and always sounds as if she will beat you if you don’t do what she says. She is 76. My kids are afraid of her.

I lost my job but I got the house in the divorce so I don’t have anywhere to go because I can’t afford to now.

She follows me around and listens to my phone calls. I once went out in the backyard for some privacy and I found her in the back bathroom listening through the window.

She keeps saving things lie all the little yogurt cups and when i ask her to not do that or simply throw them out, she acts as if I have hot her.

It is not Alzheimers or anything. She is perfectly capable of doing what she wants to do.

I have asked them to leave, I have given them a deadline to leave and they won’t. They have insurance money to rebuild but they keep coming up with excuses.

She does the "I never thought that my daughter would treat me this way" whine when I have had enough and absent myself from the house.

I am losing my mind. What can I do? Has anyone ever had the police come and put their mother out? I can’t make myself do that anyway.

I know during hurricane katrina the national guard was sent in to distribute supplies to people, helping the police in restoring order, and knocking door by door to evacuate people, all while carrying a machine gun on their backs. Im in highshool and would like to join the gaurd and I would like a job like that. What kind of job in the Guard lets you work with people, distribute needed supplies, enforce the law, help in natural disasters or terrorist attacks? Answers are appreciated

Their was a tornado locally, so I decided to investigate it and shoot photos of it. However, the police had the public roads leading into the town closed. I was unable to go to where I wanted to get the photos I needed. They let other vehicles and media through. But I was unable to. I was however allowed to park and walk. While there was debris, the roads were drivable. And as I mentioned they allowed some people to drive through but not others. I even came through one road one way, but for some odd reason, they would not let me go back through. I had to find an alternative route home.
Can they prevent people from going through towns that are disaster area’s like this? Don’t photojournalists have certain rights? Can they allow some media outlets but not others? And how do you go about getting access as other journalists, media, construction workers, or insurance agents have? It seems like some photographers are allowed full access but others aren’t.
And how would one acquire a press pass? When I spoke with a photographer with one of the local papers in the past about getting a position with the paper or as an independent photographer for them, I would need to have a portfolio first. Well it’s hard to start one when your unable to gain access to these types of situations. I thought press passes were simply documentation from the paper or media company you are working for to state your with them, nothing being of an official government type of credentials. I didn’t think they were needed for these types of events.
I asked a question, but apparently people would rather insult and discourage others while not even trying to better the situation for other photographers.

First of all, just because you have a press pass for some newspaper does not mean you know anymore then someone else. I do realize the risks. I think I am more then competent to understand the dangers of power lines and other risks. And more likely more then you.

Its also people like you that think because you have a camera and can snap pictures of a disaster you think you’re a real photographer. Now I truly understand why photographers say photojournalists have no real photography skills. Because obviously with your quick to putdown attacks, you are a pretty defensive because your obviously very scared.

my 19 year old brother in law moved in with us about 5 months ago after a tornado came through and destroyed his grandparents house.he was living with them. at first it wasnt a problem he was a good kid.we didnt bother giving him a curfew or anything because we could trust him but now,he’s hanging around with the wrong people and has an attitude thats terrible.hes also partying every day and i do mean every day either drinking or smoking pot. he hangs around people that are 16 and none of them have vehicles so of course, they bum off him.he has a job so he buys his gas but they ride around all day and when he’s out of money usually within two days after he gets paid he comes beggin me for money.we dont make him pay rent or anything all he has to pay for is his gas and insurance for his vehicle.he has a curfew of 12 right now bc i got tired of stayin up worrying about him. last night he tried to borrow some money and i wouldnt give it to him.am i wrong for trying to help him clean up?
he does start paying 100 dollars a month next month in september and when he does that we are lifting the curfew.he has to pick up after himself and everything.my husband agrees with me on this but im usually the one to give in and give him the money anyway bc i get tired of getting the "feel bad for me bc my life sucks" routine when he doesnt realize how he has it made.i havent given in yet though.
to answer one of the questions:there parents are split up and they ended up moving in w/ there grandparents when they were really little. my bro in law was like 2 i think so he doesnt really remember much.they still have contact w/ there parents though.its just hard watchin a good kid who was in college drop out bc of bad grades and then see him go down this road.ive been there myself to and i just dont wanna see him go through what i did. we used to be close but now,he’s changed and thats what he doesnt understand if he would act right i wouldnt have any problem with givin him money.
