Our home was hit by a tree when a F4 tornado went through a few days ago. Our insurance sent out serve pro guys first to access water damage. We do know the whole roof needs to be replaced cause its missing shingles and it is now leaking in lots of places and soft But barely any water has got in our home.. Serve Pro guy determines we need to replace some walls and flooring. That’s seems a bit much to us as the walls and floors looks fine to us. Our insurance WILL pay and we do get new flooring, walls and paint which is good. But do we have anything to lose by giving the ok on these extensive "repairs" even though we don’t feel the need really.

And has taken rebirth in a deep hell for his massive negative Karma?

And that’s why this prayer is answered so effectively:
I pray for heartbreak, loss of belongings, mayhem, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, sexual molestation, rape, murder, loss of a loved one, drug dealers, addiction to narcotics, expensive insurance, expensive rent, your dog getting ran over, tornadoes and tsunami-**** storms obliterating everything, and drunk drivers.

Everyone of my prayers gets answered.

Insurance would cost less, rebuilding would not be recurring over time, disaster relief would not be as severely strained, tax relief would not be as much needed, et cetera.

Is this stupidity or some monopoly scheme? Do contractors like home destruction — they feel it keeps construction sector going? Counties have too many stupid rules? Or is everyone just incompetent more generally?

It seems to me that if homes were less expensive, as they should be, more could be built, too.

Shoudn’t we just start boycotting all improperly built homes until they start doing it right?
First answer completely wrong, I can build tornado proof home for FAR LESS than usual poor quality cost. I am not even a Licensed P.E. nor architect.

It is YOU who do not know what you are talking about. I am very familiar with electrical, plumbing, construction, and so on, take a test with you any time, watch out I am 667 year old and VERY experienced.

I CAN DO what I say, for myself, for others, several dwsigns, further accommodated to local terrain, climate, conditons, whatever, and no extra cost for that either.

I think this continual same dwsign all across the states is the most stupid thing I have ever seen, and there is ZERO thought to flood areas too.

If I can do all of these things why cannot others do them? Again, the COST is LESS.

67 years old I meant, sorry. I am ALSO a person who KNOWS what I am talking about.
sorry, hit w for e a few times too, not perfect, but CAN build home = to F3 and likely still standing after F4, maybe not direct hit for F4, probably not F5, but would have shelter too.
Don’t tell me what I can and cannot do. Check it out first.
Even your Primitive Ancestors were smart enough to build home on poles in the flood area.
One type I can build = to F5 and may be cheapest of all.

Can they refuse my request to terminate my lease? Yes, I’ve still got 6 months left on my lease, but the apartment is uninhabitable. I didn’t have renters insurance (yes, I’m kicking myself for that now) so, I don’t have anything left. They said they would try to place us in another unit, but like I said… I don’t have anything to move… I’ve got nothing left to my name. I’d much rather just drop the lease and move on. Can they tell me no?
Also, they’re very stubborn, very selfish, and very rude. Can anyone also give me advice as to how to handle them? Thanks so much

I got a call from an Allstate agent named Marilyn who claimed that when my house was recently inspected they supposedly saw tree limbs touching my roof. Per her instructions my husband removed any such things, took pictures and sent them to her. A few days pass and she calls us again. She has shown the pictures to the inspector and its good. Also its time to renew our policy(we have been on time and claim free for 7 years now. I remind her of a structure( that belongs to my neighbor on their property) they are claiming in my policy and once again ask for it to be removed. She says she will and hangs up. Immediately she calls back to say the underwriters have "refused to renew". The reason? I have no car insurance with them. I respond we don’t even have a car and she makes noises and apologizes. She does send me a quote from some other very expensive company who will insure me(and as a note the structure I asked to be removed was included on this quote as well). I contacted my personal agent Mr. Gough, but due to the tornadoes he is busy and I have heard nothing for a week. I have until July to find a new carrier. She told me I MUST have home and car with Allstate or they won’t cover me. I think this is suspicious and can find no evidence to support her claim. I have even asked Allstate customers with just car or home and no one has a clue as they have never heard of this. What should I do??

In theory, if these people/towns did not have Insurance to cover these events it was a personal/business decision. Similar to Health Care for Senior citizens/the Elderly under new GOP Medicare proposal.

Lloyd’s of London, some Canadian firm, the Chinese, who cares….

The Attorney General for Michigan cannot BAR outside insurance supplier when no one authorized to sell tornado insurance in state will provide coverage, can he?.

Do they have any legal rtight to sell only to some? Does State have any legal right to go along with that, or to bar outside insurance providers who may wish to issue coverage?

This is NOT FAIR. Can we sue the State for Discrimination?
In all the surrounding areas people have coverage and their tornado incidence is HIGHER than mine. I know because I can do weather and climate, and they have all had closer tornadoes or even hits. Also the State is responsible for managing insurers, but they have a CROOK from Insurance Sector in Office, else how would this be allowed?

How do people begin to get their lives back? Do they go to their jobs? Do they stay with the rubble and try to salvage belongings? Call the insurance company?

If a hurricane or tornado devastated a republican state and their insurance didn’t want to cover them, would they look to the government for handouts or do they believe its their responsibility to take care of themselves?
Hmmm… people reaching out for other people and taking care of people in need, sounds very democratic to me.

There are insurance contracts that state certain natural distasters aren’t covered, so I am asking a question about if they were not indeed covered for a specific disaster what would they do.
@The OnlyB – so glad you brought up the point that it is the Christian thing to do to help other people. It is not only the Chrisitian way, there are other religions you know and I know it may sound crazy but there are people who are not religious that also help others and give back. Why on earth are the Republicans so far from wanting to help the poor and ones in need, is this what Jesus would’ve wanted, to help the Rich that capitalize on the poor…hmmm.

My house was struck by a tornado and heavily damaged. My son recommended a contractor which I hired based upon his opinion. I am an 81 year old woman whose husband has recently passed. I do not know anything about contractors or insurance claims. And, keep in mind that that I no longer have a mortgage. My damages were in excess of 40k. This is a legitimate construction company.

First, the contractor insisted that the insurance company would not work with me directly and that I cannot hire my own contractors…that I must hire one contractor to do all the work, including hiring subcontractors. He stated that it would be fraud for the insurance company to give me a check for a certain amount and for me to pay a cheaper contractor to do the work and for me to keep any portion of the money. He said that every cent had to go to the contractor.

I did sign a contract because he told me that he had a special rapport with the adjuster and that he would be able to get more of the house repaired than another contractor would. He said that he would talk the adjuster into replacing my entire roof and not just half of it.

The contractor gave me an initial estimate, said that he would work directly with the insurance company and I would not be involved. As the work was within two days being completed, I received a check from the insurance company. That very day, the contractor came by and insisted that I sign the entire check over to him. It was significantly more than his estimate. I asked for a final billing or invoice and said I would pay him the amount he billed me. he then became very insistant that I just sign over the check to him and that if I didn’t he would not be able to complete his payroll the following day. As I felt quite intimidated, I did sign over the check. Well, as soon as I did I sure did get an earful!! This young man unleashed a barrage of terrible words on me and I had to threaten to call the police before he would leave my home. I asked for the check back and he refused.

My son later looked over the statement that came with the insurance check and see that the insurance company allowed so much for each item that was replaced. They allowed much more than the items I received and were installed by the contractor. As an example, the insurance company allowed 0 for a front porch railing. I did not get one at all. They allowed 0 to replace a light post. The light post I received is a model I saw at the store for , same brand and all. What happened to this extra money? Should the contractor have been allowed to keep it? I was not able to keep one cent. It appears that the contracting company received 10% for overhead, 10% for profit and a great deal in overages for these items.

This does not seem right to me and I don’t know what to do. To make matters worse, the interior painting on the walls that were rebuilt was not included in the contractors work and now I have to pay for this myself. Any help is appreciated.

Me and my husband lost our trailor back on February 10th, 2009. We didn’t have insurance because no one would help because it was an older trailor. But when that tornado blasted our home that day we had FEMA and SBA help us out. Now our new home has been build but the new people that have built our home wants more money too finishish it and we don’t have that money because we have allready paid them from what SBA gave us. Problem is we are going into July 2010 and she won’t finish it! Any ideal at all. We have been homeless all this time since last year. Both of us are in seperate home now. My husband has done a lot of work on that home things they didn’t even do in it themselves. Question is if you have any advise at all please give me any ideals at PLEASE. Thanks so very much!!!
lol. Thing is we don’t have no money left. We gave her all the money allready. Now she wants more. See we gave her all the money and she said she would do it for the amount and now she won’t! She wants more. We can’t afford it!

I heard on the weather Channel today that they are expecting severe thunderstorms in the Tallahassee area that can produce damaging winds large hail and tornadoes and my older brothers a weatherman and he kind of confirmed it. I know my apartment insurance covers it but what about my car insurance.
since i have 2 more years on my lease and my cars in perfect condition.

With all the money they are in debt and growing deeper, why do they have things like Medicare, house insurance, health care of all forms, social security, disability etc. I say it should be every man for themselves, if you can’t pay to go to a doctor or rebuild your house when it a tornado hits it, tough luck.
If you lose a leg with a ban-saw and can’t work, TOUGH LUCK. Why do we need all this wasteful spending. Why can’t we just have a necessities like: police, hospitals, schools and firemen etc.? And you take care of everything else yourself and not rely on the government?

I bought my home for 95K five years ago in Texas. I just finished paying off the mortgage so now I am free to change my home insurance coverage. The value has decreased to about 87k now but my policy covers the house for 145k as the cost to completely rebuild the place in case it gets blown away by tornado I guess.

I can easily find another home like the one I have now for around 90k so is there any reason to keep my current policy? They charge over a thousand dollars annually and I am just looking for ways to cut costs.

My home was destroyed in a tornado. Can I use the insurance money to pay off the mortgage and walk away from the property or do I have to rebuild the home. All my kids have grown and my wife and I would like to start over in Arizona, but she thinks we are required to rebuild the house and then try to sell it if we want to start over.

My property was hit by an F4 tornado last spring and I thought my house only suffered minor damages (shingles ripped off, siding ripped off, and porch over hang supports completely removed). But now it is 7 months later and it feels like my house is collapsing. My floors are real wood and the boards are separating drastically and they are wavy (not level). Plus, there are cracks in my walls and my doors aren’t shutting correctly. After some crawling around in the crawl space I found out approximately 10 floor joists are splitting and/or separating. The beams that are located in the center of the house, that support the joists perpendicularly, are also being crush, cracking, and sagging. I don’t believe this is from the house settling; since they house was built in 1956. I have noticed hairline cracks in the mortar between the cinder blocks of the foundation, but none of them looked like that are falling or breaking away. I believe the house has been tweaked on the foundation. Does anyone have an idea if the insurance company will condemn the house or fix it? Its only a 1110 sq-ft house. Oh… it keeps getting worse daily and the structural engineer won’t be able to inspect it for another 3 weeks.

Really, it looks fine. They cut the gas off too, so it’s not like the heater was warming up the house. It was freezing inside the house. My gut tells me it’s OK, but I have this nagging little voice telling me that a good mommy would toss this food and start with fresh.

If it helps, our renter’s insurance should cover the cost of new groceries. The power and gas were cut on purpose due to a tornado.
The frozen food is just fine. The ice cubes were a little deformed, but they didn’t turn to puddles. I’m just wondering about my milk and that sort of stuff. I was gone while all this went down, and when I came back, the power and gas had been on for a while, so everything was very cold again.

I’m in Georgia. I I had 3 claims within the last 5 years.
1/2007 – unpaid
4/2008 – paid 0
12/2008 – unpaid
I’ve owned my home since 2004, and just had a bunch of stupid things go on during those 2 years (lightining, tornado, frozen pipe :-( ). (All 3 claims were legit, 1 I didn’t follow through with bc of my deductible amount and the last, I appealled and fought with my insurer about.) But the point is, now I need an insurance company that will actually write a policy even with the 3 claims. If anyone has suggestions, I really appreciate it!
NO DUMB COMMENTS PLEASE

Tornado hit our house in August, 3 months later we finally get their bid….its 60% lower than ours. They want to "supplement" repairs and investigate repair by repair. The total damages are above and beyond our policy max, so we want to tear down and rebuild. We are a family of 5 living in a hotel for over 3 months now…what would you do?
We have contacted the Dept of Commerce/insurance commissioner office and have opened a case. The Adjuster outright said our bid came in low because we were wanting to tear down and rebuild. Seems crooked to me! And of course the 2nd opinion contractor(low bid guy) was buddies with the adjuster.

When you get a Homeowners Insurance Policy, how long do you have to pay on the policy before they will pay for damages done to your home during a hurricane, tornado, or natural disaster?

1. An insurance company sells a ,000 tornado insurance policy to a resident of Lawrence, Kansas, for 00. The U.S. Weather Bureau estimates that the probability of a tornado hitting Lawrence equals 0.005.

can you show me how to do it ?

a. What is the insurance company’s expected profit/loss on the insurance policy?
b. What is the minimum premium the company can charge policyholders and not lose money?

A month ago we had our roof replaced from a tornado and the company we went with gave us an estimate to replace the roof and the gutters. The guy that gave us the estimate said that we would only be responsible for the deductible from out insurance claim. The guys came and did the roofing but the gutters are still not done. We have already given them what the insurance payed and there is still more then the deductible left over. The guy from the company said that we had to pay for the roof first and then they would do the gutters and then charge us for that, even thought the estimator they sent told us that we would only have to pay them when the job was done. So now they are charging us interest on the roofing part and we are still waiting for the gutters. Is this right???

I just wanted info on how homeowners insurance works. I have homeowners insurance on my home as follows… my house is insured for 110,700.00 and i owe 104,500.00 on the home its a replacement cost policy if that matters and i have contents coverage of 83,025.00 and living expense 22,140.00 Lets say a tornado wiped out my house and it was a total loss how would the money work… first on the house would they pay off the mortgage and give me the extra or would they use the money for me to rebuild and i would just have the same mortgage amount and payment as before with mortgage staying as if house was never destroyed? also my credit is not good like it was when i purchased the home so i know i could not be approved for another mortgage again. also on contents coverage i do not have a list of my contents and i do not have anything really valuable in my home i have appliances, tvs, furniture, and clothing for me and my 4 children would i get the full amount of content coverage or would i have to make list and amounts of everything we had to get a lower amount for contents? also is there anything else i may have forgotten to ask?

Let me try and give as much details as i can. I cant seem to get a answer from anyone yet and insurance people are backed up and cannot come to see the damage.

So a huge tree is 95% on my property and 5% on my back neighbors property. Its a nice healthy strong tree. Sunday a tornado touched down in North Jersey and cracked this tree in half. A small portion broke off completely and smashed my back neighbors patio. From what i understand, my neighbors insurance will cover that. Even that neighbor said they would.

Now here is where the tricky stuff comes in. The rest of the cracked tree is now hanging OVER that same neighbors house. It has not completely fallen and is being helf up my another smaller tree.

Its a hazard i guess since another storm can possibly make it go down. also a police officer said it has to come down because of the potential hazard. The police officer suggested i speak with the neighbor and possibly split the bill to take it down. I have spoken to the neighbor but did not suggest anything about my paying. I only asked if he had gotten tree companies for quotes and stuff. I even offered a tree company to use my yard if it helps with the removal since his is hard to get machinary into.

The neighbor has not straight out told me " you have to pay!" but it feels like he is trying to stick me with 100% of the bill. Basically we are on hold till our insurance peeps get back to us.

Sorry for the long explanation but i just wanted to throw everything i know thus far. Its now wednesday so 3 days have past and the tree is still hanging. does anyone know off hand do i have to pay for it or him? Or both of us? Im actually starting to get concerned that he has not removed the tree yet. If a tree was hanging over my house i would pay to get it out ASAP and handle the bill later IMO.
But he hasnt done anything yet. tomorrow it will thunderstorm and im getting worried. I dont want to be charged for negligence if something happens. would i be charged?
