Ok so three days ago my garage burned down. A lot of stuff was destroyed, including my grandpa’s car. It sucks because it was one of the only things we had left of him. Luckily, nobody got hurt, but we’ve all had to move out. We can’t move back in for two months. I’ve had to adjust to a lot of things, living in a household with nine people, borrowing clothes from friends, and being treated like a charity case. I really missed my iPod and cell phone. They weren’t damaged, but we had to leave it there for insurance purposes. I was upset because I wanted something to stay normal. Nothing is normal anymore! When I got them back my dad yelled at me and called me selfish. I realized that I was being selfish, a lot of times in fires everything gets destroyed. So I thought about starting a charity to raise money for toys for kids who have been in disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, etc. Insurance companies always take so long to give you money, and you always have to pay for it first anyway. So does it sound like a good idea? Also, how does one start a charity?

We had a tornado that caused damage to our home and our garage. We had an insurance claim adjuster out who determined that the damage to our home and garage needs to be repaired. The problem is that we live in an 1880’s home that has four gables that are covered with lead coated fish-scale cedar shakes. The damage was on two of the gables and also we had some damage to our mortar on our brick work. They also told us that we have to repair the cedar shakes. Which is very costly and if we do repair the 2 gables they will not match the rest of our home. (Style and paint color) Also we have discussed this with a couple of contractors who have explained to us that it isn’t as simple as repairing them. They will have to be removed and replaced with new due to the condition of the shakes and where the damage is on the gables. The contractor suggested vinyl on all four gables It is a very economical replacement but we will also need fascia and soffit. There is enough money to do this. The insurance company’s first check should be more than enough to cover the vinyl replacement and repair most other damage on our home. We can supplement with our own money if we run low during the home repairs. If we don’t do what they want us to do we may not get the depreciation value check that we need to make the repairs to our garage. At this point we don’t have extra funds to cover these repairs am so upset and confused. Can they cancel the claims if we don’t do what they want us to do? Do we as homeowners have rights to decide how we want our home repaired? Please respond as soon as possible. Thank You.

Al purchased & put in service a new widget (7 year item for MACRS
rules) on 12/28/06. It was the only item placed in service in ‘06. Cost
was .5 MIL. ‘06 was a bad yr for Al & he had an operating loss
before considering MACRS. The widget was used for business purposes
only. In ‘08 the widget was damaged in a tornado & Al collects
5K from his insurance company. He repaired the widget himself using
duct tape & plastic sheets passed out by FEMA. It took him a week
to repair it. He calculated that his time is worth per hr, ,000
per wk.

A. 2/28/11 Al sold the widget for 1.2 million. Compute gain or
loss, is it capital or ordinary, active or passive & current or
deferred?

B. 6/28/11 Al traded the widget for a new one. He gave the dealer
the old widget & K. Computer gain or loss & basis in the new
widget.

C. In ‘12 Al gifted the widget to his son TJ who sold it 2 weeks
later for ,975,000. Compute gain or loss for both Alvin &TJ. Is
it long or short term? Capitol or ordinary?

D. 1/15/11 Al died & the widget was left by will to his son
TJ. 1/15/13 the fair market value of the widget was .6 MIL. 2/28/13
TJ sold the widget for ,625,000. Is there any tax treatment of the
1/15/13 inheritance? How would the 2/28/13 sale be treated for tax
purposes? Is any gain or loss, long or short term, capitol or ordinary
& deferred or recognized now?

Show computation and explain conclusion.

I am 35 years old and my mother believes she can still tell me what to do. For example she used to date our insurance agent and now no longer does. She claims he beat her and is manipulative and wants us to change insurance agents. Well he came to see my daughter’s last concert, gave her flowers, and got every one ice cream after wards. When my mom and her new boyfriend came over for the other daughter’s concert she asked who the flowers were from so we told her, that got her all upset. To the point of calling me at work and said she does not want grand kidskids around her old boyfriend, we should chance insurance agents, and I broke her heart that we still talk to her old boyfriend. I told her he is a good agent helped us through a tornado and broken windshield and she still said well at least change agentsyouryoor brother found out after what he (the old boyfriend) did to my broth , my brother would be angry with me also. Another example is I can never be sick, if I do not feel good she thinks it is all a lie and should be at work. My husband has had enough, keeps on saying he will step in but never does to help me. I am to the point of "no return". Any one have any suggestions after reading that long rambling on and on? Many thanks :)
Sorry for the miss spelled words-broth=brother and your should have only been typed once not two times

I’m thinking God might punish our nation for giving more of our citizens equal protection and dignity, and allowing them to not feel like second-class citizens. John Boehner said giving more people affordable health care insurance would be Armageddon (because Jesus wasn’t in favor of helping the sick and poor, but rather for maximizing profits for the rich), so this combined with that would probably push God’s anger towards America over the top. Any thoughts? Do you think we’ll be hit by a gigantic meteor, comet, tsunami, avalanche, tornado, or something else?

So back in 98 or so I was out with my cousin in my backyard we were looking out towards the mountains. He quickly looked at me and said "look I think that was a tornado!" I looked over to the top of the mountain and this really dark thin shape which really looked like a funnel shot back up into the clouds so fast I barely saw it. So I kept watching and about 5 seconds later this "funnel" shaped thing dropped down even faster and shot back up just as fast as it came down. The sky was very dark on the mountain and the "funnel" was pitch black as it shot down. There was no wind though we could have been about 10 miles from where it touched down.

I thought it could have been a micro burst or something as well since Arizona doesn’t get tornadoes.(We can’t say tornado or the insurance won’t cover anything) Yet I didn’t think micro bursts are visible and the "funnel" looked very much like a tornado. Just the thin, black object hitting the top of the mountain makes me think that is what it is. Before then I had never seen one so that is the closest to a tornado that I have ever seen in real life.

sorry if there is alot of mistakes its late and I’m tired. This has been on my mind alot recently and was hoping someone could tell me if this occurence was a tornado. We do get funnels at least twice each summer so that is another reason I don’t think it is that unusual for it to be a funnel.

After 9/11, what’s next? Sept 11, 2008

Today is our opportunity to treat Jesus. How can we serve Him?

Do we allow Him to live under a bridge? Do we allow Him to live in a cardboard box? Is He hungry? Does He have water to drink? Does He have a place to bathe? Do we turn Him away if He doesn’t have any money to pay for shelter?

If He is behind on His property taxes, do we put His place up for auction and evict Him? If He is behind on His rent, do we kick Him out into the street? If He is drowning in the floodwaters of a hurricane, do we let Him drown?

If He applies for food stamps, do we terminate His benefits if He fails to supply proper documentation? If He applies for social security, do we deny His claim? If He needs medical care or medicine, do we turn Him away because He has no insurance? If He needs dental care, will we treat Him?

Jesus said, "Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to me".

When God allows jets to crash into our buildings killing thousands of our countrymen, do we have a right to turn to this "Jesus", the One we treat so maliciously? Surely we worship Him in vain, and our hearts are far from Him.

What does 9/11 mean? If we do not repent and treat the poor and oppressed believers in Jesus more nicely, what’s next?

1. A steel building has never burned down before
2. The twin towers were built to with stand more force from wind daily then the force of the plane crashing into the towers
3. Mayor Rudy Giuliani had hurricane proof glass put all the way around his buildings floor and his own air & water supply for the same floor put in shortly before 9/11(why would he do that if he didnt know what was going to happen?)
4. Right before 9/11he twin towers that were paid for with tax dollars was leased to a man named Larry Sliverstein who changed the security in the towers 1 month before they fell…and this same man made millions of dollars in insurance money when the towers fell
5. According to all the papers the terrorists could not fly at all… they were failing flight school but i am supposed to believe they were able to fly a 757 into the pentagon making a 250 degree turn flying inches above the ground hitting the only part of the pentagon that had been strengthened for a terrorist attack

Do they have insurance? What happens during a flood, tornado, fire etc?
What about robbery?
Does the bank collect insurance on a robbery does the companybsimply lose that money as an expense?
Is it determined by the amount lost? Is there a deductible?
What happens when a bank loses cash?

These facts have all been discussed or commented on throughout all the media outlets. Please no bashing or comparisons–just interested in people’s opinion about the following——How was this bill, going to lower my health costs when there would be a 40% tax on my premium?————-Why does this bill state that the benefits were not start until 2014 if it is so important to get it passed now?——-If this bill is the best thing for all Americans, then why were the unions exempt from paying that 40% tax?———–If this bill is good for America, why are the politicians exempt from participating in it?———-The clause that states all people can get health insurance without pre-existing conditions, why would people buy it until they get sick or need cancer treatment or heart surgery? It is like not having to pay for homeowners insurance until the tornado struck.——- These points were well documented every where, I just wanted your take oon them–again–no bashing

I ask because in every single insurance policy there is always a mention of hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes and the like as ACTS OF GOD. You couldn’t very well include ACTS OF GOD in a policy if YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD, now can you? So can I safely assume that no atheists work in the insurance business? After all, how can you attribute all these terrible things to the God you do not believe in?

I’ll be honest. I’m messy, destructive, and quite possibly a tornado pressed into a body. I tend to break things, take actions without thinking, and get caught up in all my chaos.

Today, I woke up, and I went to wipe my glasses. I snapped one of the temples right off. Then, later that day, I decided I wanted to clean up my Itunes and my email. I was given an Itunes card. Excited, I reached for the first sharp object I could find that would eradicate that irritating silvery stuff form my Itunes card so I could use it. I scratched the code right off.

Thinking back on it, I’ve ruined numerous pieces of cheap jewelry that I love, dented a my Macbook Pro, ruined a shirt, spilled too much of my make-up out in my make-up box by knocking it over, and nearly ruined the carpet in my room by spilling some make-up on it…and now I have ruined my glasses and screwed up my Itunes card. I’ve done this all in one semester of school. And while I have managed to wriggle my way out of too horrendous repercussions, (things like protective coverings, choosing to buy CHEAP jewelry, and having decent health insurance have all saved my butt,) I know that one day my destructive tendencies will come back to bite me if I don’t change my ways.

How can I work on slowing down? What can I consciously do to keep myself from moving too fast and making silly mistakes? I know that messing things up can’t always be prevented, but oftentimes it can!

these places that are in tornado alley should be built to a higher standard… a start would be to build them of reniforced concrete not wood. 95 percent of the town was leveled because of a f5 twister.. thank god that not many people died but more has to be done ..like shelters for the people.. real shelters made just for that reason. god bless them all.
funny but true tom haha.. its like people who build there summer houses on fire island, the sand gets washed away and they have to call the army core of enginners to put more sand in the beachs at taxpayer cost, its not right
love you patrick and thank you for being there for us and me..but maybe the goverment can help
yeah but richard i know .. but what happens when the insurance companys gotta pay these people when storms come and blow away there homes.. we all pay.lets fix the problem for once and for all.
yeah gub but some thing has to be done to help these poor people.

Tornado? Why in the Heck should Health Insurance be any different?

If you could, it is no longer Insurance, but a care plan! Like a maintenance agreement on an appliance or car. Even those require a check-up for pre existing conditions to be repaired at your cost Before coverage begins if the appliance is not new!
Ok, Fred, Your statement proves my point! If we are paying for it now, what is the rush to pass this monstrosity of a bill that NO ONE can claim to have read, and you know the President is not going to read before he signs!

No one is being denied critical care een if they are penniless,. Does the system need fixing? Yes! Cn the government make it better? My bet is a resounding HELL NO!

• Only 2 percent of the federal government’s hurricane-related funding went toward education recovery.

• The costs of hurricane destruction in K-12 and higher education were estimated at .2 billion, but only .2 billion in federal funding had been committed to restoring physical structures and property. Some rebuilding funds have come from the local and state levels and insurance, but several projects are unfinished.

• Displaced students re-enrolled in schools in 49 states, but a lack of adequate federal funding meant that schools with the greatest number of displaced students had insufficient classrooms, staff and supplies to support them. The report found that as many as 15,000 K-12 public school students and 35,000 college students in Louisiana and Mississippi missed school last year due to lingering problems associated with Katrina.

• Nearly one out of every six students in Louisiana’s public colleges and universities dropped out for the 2005-06 school year. In the 2006-07 school year, more than 26,000 students from Louisiana public colleges and almost 9,000 Mississippi college students remained out of school.

This is what I hear the most.

Why do people in the south say god was behind people illnesses? Like god gave that man a heart attack, as if they think his obesity and love for cheeseburgers has nothing to do with it. His high cholestoral is not at fault. They act completely oblivious to ANY scientific reason.

Another question since I dont want to waste 10 points.

Why do people also blame things like hurricanes, tornados, etc on God? Then when these peoples houses are destroyed by them the insurance companies say its an "act of God" therefore they can screw as many people out of money as they want. Again oblivious to ANY scientific reason.

But why dont people use logical and scientifical reasoning for these things?
Correct me if Im wrong but werent alot of people not being compensated for Katrina?
Leslie G its people like you that I tutor in Biology, Earth Science, and other science. If I felt like it, I could give you a million and one scientific reasons weather occurs and im pretty sure God didnt make them, thatd be a little to complicated.

And I was born and raised for 12 years in TN but I am not a hick, im not ignorant, and I actually dont have an accent anymore. The reason im not going back is I cant stand the stupidity of the majority.

for insurance companies to drop you and then you’ll have higher premiums for the next bloodsucker! I was just dropped by State Farm and to put it plain and simple…..for 2 tornadoes, a car the caught fire on the xpress way, exploded water heater, burst UPSTAIRS washer that leaked. I’m not stupid…….these are major claims, but not ONE SINGLE CLAIM IS MY FAULT!!! I just hate the fact that companies take my money like i’m just SUPPOSED to give it to them happily. Now if I didn’t NEED insurance and had to fix it on my own, then fine, but its the law to have it…..where are the laws for these bastards and what can I do outside of going to my state’s insurance commish (Tenn.) and complaining just so my complaint can get shoved in a dark hole in some file cabinet??!??!? Thanks in advance, sincerely
