I’m interested if I can buy a 4×4 pickup that was involved in the floods from the hurricane. Did the dealers or insurance companies scrap all the vehicles? I’m a professional auto technician @ my hometown General Motors dealership for 20 years and I’m not afraid to buy one [if avaliable] and restore it for my own personal use. How would I get in contact with the dealers or insurance companies?

Arguing that he doesn’t "like the federal agencies breathing down our neck," Paul argued against federal government insurance programs.

He said the federal government should not be going into debt to help in Natural Disasters;

if someone chooses to build a high-risk house on a beach and then loses that house in a storm, he said, it should not fall to the most risk-averse to pay for their decision.

Sounds Great to me!!!!

Don’t Depend on the Government if you live in tornado alley or in a Area that is Below Sea Level!!!!

Paid for but only partial insurance. Not enough money to rebuild on the same lot. 11k just to clear off the lot. Insurance will pay for a house that needs rehab but not enough to rebuild on the same lot. Even if the money was there I want to get out of that city and a rebuild on that street that makes financial sense. The area may be declared a disaster area. I want to et rid off it. How do i do it?

My parents have their homeowners insurance through State Farm, along with it being bundled with our car insurance. She lives in Georgia and I’m in Tuscaloosa, Alabama attending school. The homeowners insurance covers renters insurance at my apartment for property costs (full replacement cost). The tornado that hit the city on April 27th destroyed my apartment and I lost everything. Before anyone asks, I applied for FEMA and got denied (and apparently my apartment is still livable). After some time I was able to assemble my claim of lost property which was over ,000. I did not enclose all receipts, but if there is a problem I can display them. State Farm has started to drag their feet and seems to want to make it as difficult as possible. They apparently have a claims unit reviewing my application but it has taken longer than I expected. What would be the possibility that they find a way to not give me the full amount?

So I just bought renters insurance. All these Tornado’s are making me nervous….Anyways, I got a policy for ,000. My question is, if something does happen, like lets say our home gets hit by a Tornado, do we have to prove what we lost or will they just give us the enitre ,000 amount? The reason I ask is because I don’t own ,000 worth of stuff, that was the lowest amount I could buy. And what happens if I only loose half of my stuff, how do they decide how much you get. I’m just curious.
And what about the priceless stuff like pictures and keepsakes that you can’t get back. It’s worthless but it is valuable to me? How do they treat that stuff?
That’s stupid then, Why bother to have insurance for that much when they won’t even pay you that much. They wouldn’t let me do it for less than ,000. I would say I have about 00 of stuff. Insurance is such a rip off.
Actually, I get paid by the hour and if I don’t work the full hour, I don’t get paid for the full hour. They should have something smaller like ,000, for those of us that don’t have much money and need coverage and don’t even own ,000 worth of stuff. They don’t do that with Vehicles, they look at what you have and they insure you for the amount that is suppose to be worth. They don’t make you buy a policy for ,000 if your car is only worth 00. That is my point!

My mom was at work on 4/27 when the tornados came through and devastated our city. Thankfully she is alright, but her car was completely destroyed. The insurance adjuster hasn’t called her back due to them being overwhelmed right now and she terrified that they won’t cover her car because it was on private property. She has full coverage from nationwide. Does anyone know if they will or not?

In theory, if these people/towns did not have Insurance to cover these events it was a personal/business decision. Similar to Health Care for Senior citizens/the Elderly under new GOP Medicare proposal.

I was wondering. For example if you got into a car accident and it wasn’t your fault but the other person’s fault. If you were injured the one who will pay your medical bill will be the faulter’s insurance and his/her personal money. But when it comes to a tornado, are you by yourself and maybe your insurance liable for the hospital bill since I mean it was the weather that caused it. Or is there some kind of weather insurance? I was just wondering.

Today the Joplin, MO tornado took my WHOLE HOUSE! Nothing is left to fix. Everything has to start from the ground up. I honestly don’t want to rebuild. I only have 27,000 left on the house. Can I pay it off and keep the left over? Will they give me just as much as if I want to rebuild? Do you have any advice on how to handle the insurance to get the most money out of this event? Also I lost everything in the house including my paperwork listing all my personal property so I have to come up that list by memory. I need help there too!

The thing is many people in California and other places do not bother to buy tornado insurance making it more expensive for folks in Midwest. Lets make tornado insurance mandatory and this will increase the pool and everyone will be happy. I promise that rates will drop by 3000%

If You Live in Tornado Alley do you think you should have Tornado Insurance????

And if they don’t should they be bailed out by tax payer money when we are in debt????

I think insurance companies would know. Tornadoes certainly get more news coverage, since a lot of homes are destroyed at once.

Typically I am an over-planner. I worked really hard on my evacuation kit last year and I plan on adding/updating it this year. I have searched tons of sites and made notes on what to do and plan for. I was just wondering if anyone out there has any other helpful, been there done that, tips for hurricane evacuation plans?

I have a trunk packed with supplies (we have a dog and a cat) ready to be loaded in a car at a moments notice. It has a crank radio, some pet supplies, emergency information, preplanned routes and hotels that allow pets, some small things like battery powered candles, tools, ect.

I have various items through out the house marked with hurricane stickers so that anyone in the family can easily see that its marked and that it needs to be packed.

I have all of our photos scanned and saved to a drive along with important papers (contacts, insurance, health) in a fire proof/ water proof safe.

Do you have any other helpful tips?

i have asked this question before but nothing worked.ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the internet network connection.ive tried the ipconfig thing.and ive disabled and reenabled the internet, and pressed the wireless button on and off over and over again, but nothing works!then i figured its because i dont have a ip address, its 0.0.0.0 and ive tried ipconfig /renew, but it says it needs the internet to renew it and i dont have it!
i got my sisters old crappy laptop that she got in 2002,its a averatec computer, series 3200.and we’ve had to reboot it a couple of months ago,so it has the original windows xp home edition that came with the laptop with no updates at all.but i dont know if thats the reason because its worked fine until a few days ago.but it disconnected every time i turn it on,but all i had to do was just disable it the reenable and itd work.please help me.
oh and dont say "get a new one." cause i would if i could.and i was supposed to get one last christmas, then my birthday, then on easter, but i dont think its going to happen.(plus we have to buy insurance since another tornado is going to hit this month and the one before totally destroyed the county next to us.so we have to save as much money as possible.)

My sister broke her right leg about a month ago and had to have surgery and now has a metal rod in that leg. Now her left foot is swollen so bad. She went to a walk in clinic to have it checked out and the doctor was really worried it might be a blood clot and sent her to the hospital. The hopsital doctor did an ultra sound and said it was just water retention and said she should see her family doctor the next day.

We are from Alabama and her family doctor can’t see her for a couple weeks bc a lot of places are overwhelmed with the tornado stuff, so she went to a different hospital. That doctor just asked her what the other doctor said and prescribed loritabs. She is also having loss of feeling in both arms and they are burning. The doctor said it is bc she is on crutches. She said she keeps dropping stuff and can’t even text on her cell bc she can’t feel her arms.

I am really worried and need to find a specialist for her to see bc this doesn’t seem right to me. Loss of feeling in the arms is serious, right? I read online that could be a sign of heart problems(she had a hole in her heart as a baby). She is 29 years old and pretty healthy otherwise, minus the fact that she smokes cigarettes. Does anyone have any suggestions of who she should see?

She has insurance and doesn’t need a doctor referral for a specialist. Please help!!

On a side note, she broke her leg bc she fell bc of loss of balance. She was having problems with her balance and kept forgetting things. She doesn’t drink or do any drugs so she was sober. I just don’t know what causes all of this.

Calling all Christians. My wife makes most of the money all most all. My health slowed me down tremendously. Spent our money right and blessed by GOD. Rehabbed rental house. This lady owed me at least 00.00 for some time on a 0. rent per month. I was told the big check is coming and we will handle the debt. Check never came or at least i didn’t see it. I did see a brand new lawn tractor. After a year of being in the hole she had a stroke. Made comeback currently on disability. 1k Per month. Then Husband died. Move some family in for support. They are more broke than she is. Moral support but no financial support. 1 person legally supposed to be in the house but now its 6. The bit about the lump sum is fading away. She tells me she will pay 800 per month toward the balance. Her rent in 650 plus 25 dollar late fee. 125 a month until balance is paid. (slow). I want to kick here out but feel sorry for her so I was riding it out. A tornado comes through and demolished the house. I had partial insurance. She had none. i put her and her illegal tenant up for 1 night in the hotel. I Stated the 0 for security deposit was mine now. (1500 in the hole) I’ll forget about the rest. Her check came 3 days after tornado. No rent for April. Another 0 gone. Knuckle head son stole some copper but I knew to get all valuables out a.s.a.p. because of rumors about the son. So most of it was gone when they broke in. Yesterday she calls talk in bout cant i pay for 2 rooms for 2 more nights. They have family but i believe they burnt some bridges. What should do? I think all the free aid is done for now. She was due to get paid 00 3 days after tornado. Where is that cash now?

A tornado recently caused extensive damage in a town late at night. I complained about the NWS National Weather Service always wasting taxpayer money to drive around all day to tell us it was a tornado. Everyone knows it.

I’m in an argument with a fire fighter who claims, "the National Weather Service will write a report that will allow the homeowner to get paid by their insurance company. Without a verification from a trusted source (NWS), most insurance companies will not pay for damage (hail, wind, lightning, damage from debris)."

Is this true or false? Any source, like a homeowners insurance policy document, that you can provide?
