My girlfriend and I have been dreaming big since we got together. We want to get married and have a nice country house somewhere up north (Mass. N.Y. Vermont). We want to be away from tornadoes hurricanes ect. We both love snow so we want to go somewhere where the weather is nice in the summer and cold in the winter. She wants to do something in the medical industry and I want to do something with fire investigations. Any suggestions?…Look on Yahoo! images and type vermont country, we want to live in a place like that. Or a place where it looks like the setting of the movie "Hocus Pocus".

I’m trying to dry my carpet as quickly as possible because a part of it is a bit wet and i don’t have much time to do anything about it and right now i have my oil heater in it’s normal position which i left on the carpet for a few hours and that didn’t really help because my carpet is still a bit damp so i was thinking if maybe i lie the heater on it’s side that more heat will go through to the carpet and maybe it will dry faster. But I’d only do it if it’s safe to do that. So is it safe to lie an oil heater on it’s side? If not then why? I am a resident of the Mid-Atlantic and therefore do not experience many tornado warnings, perhaps one every three years for my area. When they do occur, I am usually watching a cable channel and the cable company will cut-in with a black screen with white lettering with information regarding the warning and the EAS tone. I have also often seen the crawls used on network TV for severe thunderstorm warnings. I find neither of these to fully match the potential terror of the situation – actually some of the EAS and previously EBS test graphics seemed more intimidating (i.e. red screens filled with large letters). How are TV tornado warnings currently conducted in some other regions, and how have they been done in the past? I have seen images and heard talk of local TV networks cutting in with terror-inflicting screens replete with large letters reading "TORNADO WARNING," or featuring screen-filling EAS, EBS, or CD (Civil Defense – no longer operational) logos and the respective warning tone and message. What are some of the most intimidating warning (or test) graphics to which you have borne witness? Thanks for enlightening me.

Some things I want to paint, I just can’t get my own images or go on site to paint. Such as penguins in Antarctica or pictures of nebulae from the Hubble Space Telescope, or tornados. There are lots of nice more ordinary photos others have taken that I want to paint from too, and HAVE been doing to learn painting. Sources such as calenders and online photos. But if were to sell my work, would it be OK if I had used a copyrighted photo as a source? My painting is a naturalistic style, but definitely not so detailed that it is a copy (like some portraits are, for example). People painting Elvis pictures would run up against this, I would think.

Every time I see images on T.V. of tornadoes or hurricanes affecting home areas in the U.S. I see houses made of wood being swept away so easily. Why are houses made of wood? Why don’t they build them with bricks and cement? Although bricks and cement would perhaps be more expensive I think wood houses are so fragile that they just cannot resist the force of a tornado or hurricane. Not saying bricks and cement will resist 100% but I think they would at least resist more… Is it just a cultural thing in the U.S. to build houses with wood?
