We all know the names of some famous(infamous) hurricanes such as: Andrew, Gilbert and Katrina; but why are tornadoes not given names? They are both forces of nature. Any ideas? Met. techs out there?
thanks for the answers so far, i appreciate this.

well im only 13 now but i am fantasizing about where i want to live when i grow up. I live in Michigan right now. I think i don’t want to live here forever but you never know. Here is my criteria: no hurricanes, it needs 4 seasons, as little danger and crime as possible (I am planning on a family), I would like the land to be hilly it dosent have to be mountains just not all flat (partly because i love to ski and its pretty), and one with a very very minumal amount of tornados. here is my main problem I know I am going to have a horse barn on my property so I want to live a little out in the country at least but i really like to shop and be fasionable so I want to live near a big enough safe town (city). I also think I want to be a orthodontist. Is there any place like this?

I wasthinking maybe in Pennsilvania or maybe in Illinois outside of Chicago or maybe thats to crime filled.

please answer with as much info as possible and if you live there tell me about it. thanks :)
I know that I need to go where my job will be but based on my criteria where should i live

I’m planning a trip to the DR in September.

I checked the National Hurricane Center website to see if they predict any Hurricanes for September, but all it says is this season will be an "Active Atlantic Hurricane Season." It doesn’t give any specific dates.

So I’m wondering how far in advance can they predict a hurricane?

A. A new keystone species would replace the old keystone species.
B. The oxygen supply in the ecosystem would be depleted.
C. The population numbers of other species would change dramatically.
D. The temperature of the ecosystem would increase.

2. The Gulf of Mexico provides 72 percent of the shrimp harvested in U.S. waters. Those populations are at risk because of the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. Which statement best describes this dead zone?
A. It is a zone of ocean water that has almost no oxygen.
B. It is a zone of ocean water that has almost no carbon dioxide.
C. It is a zone that formed when it lost its keystone species.
D. It is a zone that’s been depleted by sea urchins.

3. How did the Gulf of Mexico’s dead zone form?
A. All the fish and invertebrate species migrated elsewhere.
B. An oil spill killed all the species there.

I would really love some help! I’m looking for some information about CO?
My husband my brother and I are moving to Colorado Springs CO. I was wondering if you could help supply information on the following:
~Average kilowatt per hour:
~Apartment brochures for 2 bedroom 2 bathroom:
~Average temperatures per month:
~What natural disasters happen around that area:(like here in south texas we get hurricanes)
~The average race in colorado (white, african, spanish, etc)
~Popular attractions of colorado:
~Population of Colorado Springs:

Thanks!

AND: I DON’T need rude people or any attitudes okay…
It is doing research. Which is the smart thing to do before one moves to a state at which they have never been to so you either answer the question and help me out or don’t answer it and leave me alone thx

- major corporations enlist their thousands of employees to pray together each day for ingenuity or inspiration against the competition?

- hospitals gather all their staff together in the chapel each morning and pray for all the days surgical procedures to go well?

- government agencies allocate millions of dollars to research the benefits of praying for success in combat, or to determine if prayer could help the homeless, or feed the hungry?

- Agencies like NASA begin each day with a nationwide satellite beamed prayer session urging the safe return of shuttle missions, or even for the Mars Rover to start responding again?

- Depts like the NOAA forgo severe weather reports and just broadcast messages telling everyone to pray for hurricanes to weaken, tornadoes to abate, blizzards to disappear, droughts to end and global warming to reverse itself?

What’s wrong with all these people??? Science obviously isn’t helping them. How can they ignore the power of prayer?

I’m 16 y/o and I want to film a category 5 hurricane this summer and also film tornadoes. I know that sometimes during hurricanes people aren’t allowed outiside. If I get a permit, would I be allowed to film? Where do I get a permit and how much would it cost? How long would the permit be valid? Any other information I should know about the permit? If a cop sees me with my camcorder and suspects me of looting, I’d have it registered online so they can look it up and know it’s really mine. They won’t be able to charge me with looting but would they be able to charge me with something else and if so what? What would be the maximum and minimum penalty of the charge? How long would they release me after they find out I wasn’t looting? Any other info about the law I should know? I want to film more than one area so I can’t just leave my camcorder outside and stay inside. I want to film my school getting damaged and big waves from the water.

The Democrats said they had a plan to lower gas prices if elected to Congress in 2006. They got elected and crude oil went from .00 per barrel. to 3.00 (last number I heard).Gasoline went from .17 to (currently) .83 per gallon. Where is this great plan to bring down the cost?
Democrats want to reduce our dependence on imported oil, but will not allow drilling in ANWAR, or off any U.S. coastline. There is enough oil in any one of these areas to supply this country for 30 years without a drop of imported oil. The technology exists to do this with very little, if any negative impact to the environment. Remember that after Hurricanes Katrina, and Rita, 1000 oil rigs were destroyed in the Gulf of Mexico, but not one drop of crude oil leaked out.

Democratic mandates regarding ethanol is also responsible for the increase in food prices.

Also too, history has shown no country has ever taxed itself into prosperity, yet the Democrats answer to everything is raise taxes
I know gasoline prices have gone up during the Bush Administration. Gas prices have gone up since the days of Jimmy Carter. But the prices have "spiked" every day since the Dems took over Congress in 2007. Where is the great plan they had to reduce gas cost?
Of course the Saudi’s laughed at us. Why should they increase production for us when we won’t increase our own production? The Democrats have blocked every serious attempt to relieve dependence on foreign oil now, opting for alternatives that won’t be effective for another 20 years.

Joseph saw 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of devastation, so he prepared during the good times for the bad ones to come. Wouldn’t it be "wise" for us to increase the supply of oil reserves to meet the demand thus lowering the cost to us? Is any other view really being "for" the middle and lower class of any nation? Aren’t consumer price increases directly tied to the price of fuel? Who do these increases hurt the most? Yes, let’s get free from dependence upon foreign oil, but should we make so many suffer in the process? How many middle and lower class citizens will ever see Anwar? Aren’t these hurricanes like Joseph’s sign, and we’d better prepare for the drought ahead?

Why can’t we do BOTH; drill for the fuel required by the vehicles owned by those who can’t afford anything else, and search for ALL means of alternative fuel types as though our lives depended upon it? Just as Joseph did in his day.
Haynes 08, Joseph was very political, and you would have known it had you been truly wise, and we do LEARN from past mistakes, even in politics. At least, that would be refreshing!!
Edit B, Your wisdom is shining, and yes, jobs effect the lower and middle class citizens, and plenty of jobs could be made right at home if our leaders would just learn from Joseph.

Mikkiros…, you are right and glad you love the bible, but don’t forget who is in control of "mother nature". She doesn’t control God, but rather, God controls her, so don’t fear.

Paintedh… Joseph was very "political" and any wise person knows that we SHOULD learn from the past.

That guy over there, you are right, but I’m afraid no one is really showing any true wisdom. God is in control, and that is the only hope in this world gone mad.
Button up, the cost always affects the resale value. I know from experience that the cost of freight is passed on to the consumer. I agree with you in some things though.
Moose, how can you say that God isn’t into oil prices, after all, He created the oil, didn’t he? God’s word concerning Joseph is very close to what is happening with oil, but at that time, it was the price of corn. Oh, corn is on the rise toooooo, so it’s just like today!
Luke 7:35, Jesus said, "…wisdom is justified of ALL her children". Yes, those, who are and are not, born of wisdom can be clearly seen among the answerers of this simple question. Seek and ye shall find, Proverbs 2:4, says to seek for her as for a hidden treasure, but FEW there be that find knowledge and understanding.

i remembered a show i watched last year, it was either itv or channel 4 in the uk, about storms that happened in the usa. i fink there was about 3 episodes in all where this guy walked right into the middle of these storms and recorded footage of them. i think one if the episodes was about hurricanes, another about tornadoes and the last about forest fires. One thing that does stick out is that he used a bin bag to keep the water away from his camera. now problem is i cant remember what the show was called. Anyone got any ideas?

Self-Funding Method to "Reverse" Global Warming
while providing Abundant Clean Energy:

http://blog.360.yahoo.com/jamesbdunn?p=224

NASA has already identified these systems as being able to provide many times the global needs for energy production by using space based solar concentrators. So why are we still using fossil fuels?

If we used fossil fuels JUST for producing products (asphalt, antifreeze, plastics, …) then we would have a supply that would last a thousand years and more. However, by using fossil fuels as fuel, we have less than a 100 year supply while producing enormous amounts of pollution.

Also, the mechanism by which solar concentrators work, is the same mechanism by which global weather can be controlled. (dissipating hurricanes, dissipating tornados, eliminating droughts, providing predictable rainfall, eliminating extreme temperatures, rebuilding glaciers and the artic ice pack, ….)

How do we influence politicians to actively create a system?

Hey! Me and my friend Kaitlyn are working on an article on Severe Weather for the newspaper. We want some personal opinions on it. So here goes.

1. Has anybody has had personal experiences with severe weather? The article is on Tornadoes, Thunderstorms and Hurricanes.

2. Does anybody have any pictures of severe weather that you took?

3. What was the severity of the weather you experienced? For example, if you wanted to tell about experiencing a tornado. We need to know the classification (F1, F2, F3 and so on.)

If you have any experience with severe weather, please give your story. Everything, and anything is helpful. Thanks. :)

Have a wonderful day.

Katy

Seriously, it should be common knowledge amongst the moderately well-informed populous as to why there’s an arbitrary fluctuation in gas prices — ESPECIALLY that (to me) they appear to have "magically" dropped when America needs it most.

Well — I got news for you gas co.s…we ALWAYS need it, okay?

And spare me the platitudes of a "supply & demand" lesson in any answers to this question, please (or hurricanes, or the recession — none of that’s changed enough to justify this drop).

I want to find out if there’s someone out there who ACTUALLY knows why "the powers that be" are able to knock three dollars off the price right now, and not back in the summer…or always, for that matter!
PS: This guy, "Headtater" (4 answers down) is the prototype for what I’m talking about.

Of course I’m happy gas prices are lower! I’m trying to ascertain the cause behind the drop so we can KEEP it that way…brainiac.

Some people…all opinion, no solution.

ok…
You all know of the butterfly effect, right? No?
Well, it’s a theory that every little thing, including the beat of a butterfly’s wings, contributes to every weather pattern around the world, such as hurricanes and rainstorms.

Here’s my plan:

1: Gather the following: About 1 million Grow-Your-Own-Butterfly Kits, a cage large enough to hold said kits, a bomb shelter and a Large Box of Lollypops.

2: Raise the butterflies inside the gaint cage.

3: Once all the butterflies reach maturity, open up the cage and release all the butterflies.

4: Go inside bomb shelter as hurricanes all over the world destroy everything.

5: Arise from the shattered remains of the earth and proclaim myself as it’s new leader.

6: Find the starving, half-dead survivors of earth and tell them if they make me their leader I will give them a lifetime supply of Lollypops. Who could pass up those delicious taste of those yummy Lollypops?
Well that’s it!

What do u think ???

Ok so three days ago my garage burned down. A lot of stuff was destroyed, including my grandpa’s car. It sucks because it was one of the only things we had left of him. Luckily, nobody got hurt, but we’ve all had to move out. We can’t move back in for two months. I’ve had to adjust to a lot of things, living in a household with nine people, borrowing clothes from friends, and being treated like a charity case. I really missed my iPod and cell phone. They weren’t damaged, but we had to leave it there for insurance purposes. I was upset because I wanted something to stay normal. Nothing is normal anymore! When I got them back my dad yelled at me and called me selfish. I realized that I was being selfish, a lot of times in fires everything gets destroyed. So I thought about starting a charity to raise money for toys for kids who have been in disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, etc. Insurance companies always take so long to give you money, and you always have to pay for it first anyway. So does it sound like a good idea? Also, how does one start a charity?

I was talking to my in laws and fiance last night about how we should really be prepared for a disaster, whether it be natural or man made. I was speaking of non perishible food supplies and water and even a generator. They thought it wasnt feasable since we live in an area not prone to hurricanes or earthquakes. Basically with the mind frame, we live in an area where that stuff doesnt happen. I felt like they were making fun of me for worrying about future possibities. I am wondering if I am being irrational or if I am being a responsible person looking out for my family in the future. What do you think?
