I am completely paranoid about tornadoes. I kind of see hurricanes as one big, huge, strong severe thunderstorm. Tornadoes spawn from severe thunderstorms. And with Hurricane Irene being predicted to hit North Carolina, I was wondering are tornadoes very probable in hurricanes? More so than summer thunderstorms? .. And if you want to answer another question, how bad do you think Irene will hit the Greenville, North Carolina and surrounding area? Your comments are appreciated!

You know the ones. They stand out in the street reporting risking life and limb while the winds are howling, and the rain is gushing down on their TV issued rain slickers/umbrellas. While their pants legs are whipping around, they stand there holding onto their slicker hoods/umbrellas for dear life, while cars are just missing hitting them. It’s like they live for hurricanes/tornadoes, tsunamis etc. All of them want to do a more crazier stunt act than the next TV station for higher ratings.

Earthquakes you have no warning. Tornadoes you have a small warning. Hurricanes you have days warning, although you know more when the storm approaches.

My mom wants to move to Tennessee. she has some teacher friends who retired there that really enjoy it, and a few others that say they are thinking of moving there.

she likes that there are no property taxes, cost of living is lower, and they can get a really nice house for less than what we can get one elsewhere.

I was looking around and a few places seem nice… According to the Neighborhood Scout website that talks about crime in an area… Erin is a safe area with lower crime than where we live now (and where we live now there is almost none.) as is Dover (in middle Tennessee near the Kentucky border)

My main concern though, is natural disasters. Where we live now we don’t get Tornadoes or major floods, or hurricanes or earthquakes.

I know Tennessee is supposedly big for Tornadoes and flooding, and I hear there is a fault line that can cause almost as big of a quake as they’re expecting in California one day. So I don’t know how safe it would be to move there.

Is there a way to find out how many tornadoes, quakes and other natural disasters effect the area a year (especially around Dover/Erin and other parts of the northern half of Tennessee)?

Cause I really am anxious about the idea of moving there if there is a lot of danger from Tornadoes or quakes and such. I have a phobia of tornadoes and quakes especially.

I have an strong interest in extreme weather. I would love to be on the scene researching these strong storms such as tornado’s, hurricanes, severe storms, everything. We all know that hurricanes can spawn a lot of very weak, and short lived tornadoes. Hurricane Beulah spawned well over 200 tornadoes, at time a record which stood until 2004. However, in 2004 Francis and Ivan became the 1st and second most tornadoes from a hurricane ever recorded. There was a lot of video cameras in 2004, and with more recent technology such as youtube, etc, hurricanes that formed later on, such as Ike, Dolly, Alex, etc also spawned tornadoes. I live in Coastal Texas and most of the tornadoes that we get are from landfalling tropical systems. Are the tornadoes that form with hurricanes so weak and such short lived that it is nearly impossible to see them?

all right here is what i think about it and i have something to say all right back in the 1970s and 80s the earth was in a cooling cycle [the earth goes through NATURAL colling and heating cycles ice age happend didnt it] so the scientists were flippen out talkin about globel cooling and they said by now we would all be coverd in ice and by 2000 the earth went into a heating cycle so then they started talkin about globel warming and they blame every little weather problum on globel warming like there way more hurricanes than usual a few years ago so instead of figuring it out they just said yeah it globel warmings fault and called it a day or there is the most f5 tornadoes this year since 1970 instead of figering any thing out they said oh its globel warming im in my last year of school and in science every single problem that is even a little out of place they blame globle warming and let me tell you after about 11 years of globel warming globe warming globel warming in science its gotten anoying and whats funny is every time one of these teachers even mentions globel warming every just moans so its not just me and i dont know any one who actually belives in this crap and then this the ice is melting the ice is melting the ice is melting crap is dum to have you ever seen those pictures that show a polar ice cap before and then after and its like almost melted in the after picture and theyll say of this picture of the polar ice cap is from 1999 an its like completly frozen and this goes for all pictures of this crap and it will show the same one in like 2005 and its all melted well what dont tell you is you know how in summer the ice caps melt some well the 1999 picture is from the winter of 1999 and the 2005 picture is from the summer of 2005 so obviesly its going to be melted in the summer and they do this crap to confuse you and make you think that its real so what do you think

With these killer Tornadoes?
I live in Wisconsin – in the foremost region where tornadoes, having started, usually come down our way.
I am not asking this because I’m afraid…but CURIOUS, as to WHY their frequency, and their (Seeming vindictive and angry as all H*ll below!!!) fierceness?
I realize they are lethal, but as a formation of Nature, stating itself, It is a vision so gorgeous to the EYES!
Well, I’m generalizing, and that’s not fair – but to my EYES, Gorgeous of form and because of their power!

YES! I for ONE, find then intimidatingly BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Anyway, any ideas why it seems that the whole of Nature, in its’ varied manifestations of Power and Not denied of Great Beauty – is responding so ferociously?

Well LinLyons, I do agree with all that you’ve said.Even being able to watch them on the tube is interesting.
However as an artist, I love everything beautiful – Beauty of Nature for example…just about everything in all animals, and also within the insect realm. (Although I heard having this said, by Jeff Goldblum as he turned into (can’t remember the first name – but his surname was Branddlefly) that insect politics are BRUTAL!
As for people, I find no beauty in them, because as insignificantly as they are, FOR THE VERY MOST! – they betray, both their intelligence and one another. So, truly? I’m not one who is swayed by supposed human Beauty. And if ever I consider it, well I stop right there, and look up at the sky – and listen to the clouds, which silently tell you their much varied stories through the gestures upon their faces! What are they really trying to do? sorry, once you’ve seen 1 tornado video, you’ve seen them all.
And why do weathermen find the need to stand outside durring a hurricane? Are they trying to show us that hurricanes are really really windy? And how long till one of them is killed by a flying street sign on live TV?
Edit, I still dont see the point, we have 10,000s of videos of tornados, what good is 1 more video going to prove. I fail to see the need to risk your life for a TV show. granted, Ive never seen the show, but the commercials for it annoy me. Seems like there’re just grand standing.
I don’t think American Idol is a dangerous as people chasing killer storms, and the fact that they are so nonchalant about it kind of make its look like these storms really are not that dangerous. "Hell, why should I take cover, these guys are right next to it filming it, it cant be all that bad".
and again, why during every hurricane does some dumb-ass reporter stand out there and tell us how windy it is? Ratings I guess? Being that tomorrow (June 1) is the start of 2011′s Hurricane Season, what kind of companies (home builders, raw material companies – steel, lumber, whatever) would stand to benefit from the upcoming reconstruction that is likely to come (regardless of the actual magnitude of the hurricanes)? Specifically, what companies (just some examples) would benefit? I was thinking maybe Caterpillar, for example?

hey i am currently 16 years old. PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE THING..I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT
i feel like i am grown up but i certainly do not feel like i know everything. actually i feel like i know absolutely NOTHING about this world.

i am a christian and i really do believe in God and that i will one day return to him. i have done research of other religions and they all interest me.
I am wondering what will really happen when i die? should i really be scared of dying or should i just live life without worrying about it..
how can i not worry about dying when it can happen at any second? it really scares me how so many people die when they least suspect it…from babies to the elderly, they just die…
its really sad to me and i want to live life until i am very old.
Many questions just linger in my head and i feel like they will never be answered…
i do not know the right person to ask my questions to, so i just keep them to myself.
i have also rad about astral projection and it really really interested me. If i can do an out of body experience, then what does life on earth mean??

This first one really weirds me out. It started when I was about four or five. I don’t watch movies, play video games, or hear about this stuff that could possibly cause me to have these dreams. Anyway here it goes:

In my dream, I’m sitting by and watching this stuff happen. I’m alone. No one knows who I am, no one cares. It doesn’t seem to bother me. That’s how it’s always been. I remember hearing a blast and seeing a bright flash of light as if there was an explosion. People are running around screaming, panicking. I hear a deep voice as if it’s coming over a speaker or microphone. It’s a mans voice. Then I see his face.

And then I woke up screaming, terrified. I was four or five. Once I got calmed down, I couldn’t remember my dream.

I had it again a couple of nights later, only with more depth.

It started off the same way. I was alone. But instead, I was sitting inside a building made of white concrete, no windows. There were people there too. They had white coats. Or clothing. I remember knocking over a flower vase and someone yelling at me. Then I was trying to stop someone from pressing this red button, then all the flash and explosion, people, blah blah. It all happened again.

Since, I have had dreams about a Holocaust situation, war, volcanic eruptions, large hail stones, massive tornadoes, massive hurricanes, tsunami’s, and war.

Any ideas what these mean in my dreams??

I’m a pretty positive person, so I do have my good dreams, but the ones like these always make big question marks appear above my head.
