I mean he was responsible for the horrible hurricane in New Orleans as well as most other problems in the world today. Shouldn’t he just own up to the fact that he is responsible for the fires in CA? He has been in office for 6.5 years. Surely he could have stocked up water supplies in California in anticipation of these fires. He should have been training extra fire fighters personally over the last 6 years so that there would be an abundance of them to fight these fires.

When did Bush know about these fires? Did he fail to act in time? Weren’t there warnings about these fires years ago. I have been to CA and have seen road signs that warn about wildfires, shouldn’t Bush have heeded the road signs warnings?

Finally, did Bush actually set the fires to contribute to global warming? I mean, the temp must have gone up a few degrees because of these fires. All that smoke in the air, the extra traffic from evacuations, etc….this is obviously a vast right wing conspiracy.

Last tornado to hit California

Drought occurred in Lemoore, California, and lasted three whole years. After conserving, and almost about to give up, rainfall hits the area suddenly with much more rain then they’ve had before.

Snow in Texas was here just a few weeks ago.

Freeze occurred in California.
New York had a day over 71 degrees a week or so into winter.
There is no snow in the Alps.

I’m just wondering what all of this strange weather is happening outside of the United States?
Are there any strange weather phenomenons occurring ever since this "Global Warming?"
And please give me some reference sites.

For years we were told that the increase in green house gases would cause the planets temperatures to increase. We would have more hurricanes, polar ice would melt, coastal areas would flood due to rising sea levels, interiors would bake under the hot sun and droughts, food supplies would dwindle, humanity would be doomed.

However not one dire prediction seems to be coming true, even with a steady increase of co2.

The Earth appears to be getting colder, ice caps are above normal levels, and there hasn’t been an active hurricane season in 2 years.

When are we going to stop listening to these profits of doom and realize that no one can predict the future, and anyone that says they can is either delusional or conning us?

When will we realize that there better uses for our resources, and end the funding of so called “global warming”?

okay really i live in Southern California and thier is tornados! wow that is some crazy stuff. Is this a sign of global warming? So.Cal has never ever had these.

I live in earthquake country in California and near the San Andreas fault and as a result i have been through a lot of earthquakes even a few floods growing up. My question is why do people who live in Earthquake country or hurricane or tornado alley especially like florida & the gulf coast always act supervised when their hit by a natural which ever disaster fits the area? I mean if you live in Hurricane alley you have to expect and accept that there is a chance a hurricane will affect you in some way potentially greatly. Most have to have insurance be it flood or earthquake or hurricane. I just don’t get why people always seem or act supervised that a hurricane put a tree through their house or flooding on the coasts after a hurricane may have done damage to your house that the hurricane the hurricane had skipped. What’s the saying if you play with fire you’re bound to get burned? I accept that one day there will be a big earthquake bigger then the 7.3 in 1987 or any in LA and I accept that there might be a miracle flooding because of faulty levees or global warming or whatever. I don’t mean to sound cold but if you live below sea level surrounded by water you’re going to flood sooner or later yet we bury our heads until it happens & then are shocked. I just don’t get it….Slamming your hand in a car door is funny but hurts which is why I try not to do it it just boggles my mind how shocked & suprised people are about things they know ahead time are possible. Same goes with investing be it the stock market or houses its a risk any time anywhere & whatever reason you do it & yes the potential gains are often good but there’s still some risk & people accept it invest or buy and then the economy or housing market tanks or the company goes bankrupt or has a health scare & boom the investment backfired. There’s risk. I ….beyond me ….why do we over look things burying our heads in the sand & why are we suprised when it happens?

Gore’s Inconvenient Truth….

Dear Mr. Gore:

I have just seen your new movie, "An Inconvenient Truth," about the threat that global warming presents to humanity. I think you did a very good job of explaining global warming theory, and your presentation was effective. Please convey my compliments to your good friend, Laurie David, for a job well done.

As a climate scientist myself — you might remember me…I’m the one you mistook for your "good friend," UK scientist Phil Jones during my congressional testimony some years back — I have a few questions that occurred to me while watching the movie.

1) Why did you make it look like hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, droughts, and ice calving off of glaciers and falling into the ocean, are only recent phenomena associated with global warming? You surely know that hurricane experts have been warning congress for many years that the natural cycle in hurricanes would return some day, and that our built-up coastlines were ripe for a disaster (like Katrina, which you highlighted in the movie). And as long as snow continues to fall on glaciers, they will continue to flow downhill toward the sea. Yet you made it look like these things wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for global warming. Also, since there are virtually no measures of severe weather showing a recent increase, I assume those graphs you showed actually represented damage increases, which are well known to be simply due to greater population and wealth. Is that right?

2) Why did you make it sound like all scientists agree that climate change is manmade and not natural? You mentioned a recent literature review study that supposedly found no peer-reviewed articles that attributed climate change to natural causes (a non-repeatable study which has since been refuted….I have a number of such articles in my office!) You also mentioned how important it is to listen to scientists when they warn us, yet surely you know that almost all past scientific predictions of gloom and doom have been wrong. How can we trust scientists’ predictions now?

3) I know you still must feel bad about the last presidential election being stolen from you, but why did you have to make fun of Republican presidents (Reagan; both Bushes) for their views on global warming? The points you made in the movie might have had wider appeal if you did not alienate so many moviegoers in this manner.

4) Your presentation showing the past 650,000 years of atmospheric temperature and carbon dioxide reconstructions from ice cores was very effective. But I assume you know that some scientists view the CO2 increases as the result of, rather than the cause of, past temperature increases. It seems unlikely that CO2 variations have been the dominant cause of climate change for hundreds of thousands of years. And now that there is a new source of carbon dioxide emissions (people), those old relationships are probably not valid anymore. Why did you give no hint of these alternative views?

5) When you recounted your 6-year-old son’s tragic accident that nearly killed him, I thought that you were going to make the point that, if you had lived in a poor country like China or India , your son would have probably died. But then you later held up these countries as model examples for their low greenhouse gas emissions, without mentioning that the only reason their emissions were so low was because people in those countries are so poor. I’m confused…do you really want us to live like the poor people in India and China ?

6) There seems to be a lot of recent concern that more polar bears are drowning these days because of disappearing sea ice. I assume you know that polar bears have always migrated to land in late summer when sea ice naturally melts back, and then return to the ice when it re-freezes. Also, if this was really happening, why did the movie have to use a computer generated animation of the poor polar bear swimming around looking for ice? Haven’t there been any actual observations of this happening? Also, temperature measurements in the arctic suggest that it was just as warm there in the 1930’s…before most greenhouse gas emissions. Don’t you ever wonder whether sea ice concentrations back then were low, too?

7) Why did you make it sound like simply signing on to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions would be such a big step forward, when we already know it will have no measurable effect on global temperatures anyway? And even though it represents such a small emission reduction, the economic pain Kyoto causes means that almost no developed country will be meeting its emission reductions commitments under that treaty, as we are now witnessing in Europe .

At the end of the movie, you made it sound like we can mostly fix the global warming problem by conserving energy… you even claimed we can reduce our carbon emissions to zero. But I’m sure you know that this will only be possible with major technological advancements, including a probable return to nuclear power as an energy source. Why did you not mention this need for technological advancement and nuclear power? It is because that would support the current (Republican) Administration’s view?

Mr. Gore, I think we can both agree that if it was relatively easy for mankind to stop emitting so much carbon dioxide, that we should do so. You are a very smart person, so I can’t understand why you left so many important points unmentioned, and you made it sound so easy.

I wish you well in these efforts, and I hope that humanity will make the right choices based upon all of the information we have on the subject of global warming. I agree with you that global warming is indeed a "moral issue," and if we are to avoid doing more harm than good with misguided governmental policies, we will need more politicians to be educated on the issue.

Detroit, Mich. – Michigan just experienced its coldest July on record; global temperatures haven’t risen in more than a decade; Great Lakes water levels have resumed their 30-year cyclical rise (contrary to a decade of media scare stories that they were drying up due to global warming), and polls show that climate change doesn’t even make a list of Michigan voters’ top-ten concerns.

Yet in an interview with the Detroit News Monday, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) – recently appointed to the Senate Energy Committee – made clear that fighting the climate crisis is her top priority.

"Climate change is very real," she confessed as she embraced cap and trade’s massive tax increase on Michigan industry – at the same time claiming, against all the evidence, that it would not lead to an increase in manufacturing costs or energy prices. I believe in global warming…I’m just wondering if this is it.

Last year, in January, there was a 4 day stretch of 50+ degree weather in Wisconsin. The average around this time is at least 30 degrees lower. This caused severe weather and tornadoes…in Wisconsin…in January.

This year, same place (Southern Wisconsin). The high today was 61 degrees, and the high has been over 50 for the past few days. There is a very possible chance for severe weather in this case too.

This hasn’t happened once in the 10 years before, let alone twice in a row. Is this because global warming is changing weather patterns, or am I just paranoid?

Even after all the devastation last year people are still not ready for this hurricane season (that started today).
Are you ready?

The news said that over 80% of people have done nothing to strengthen their home.
Over 2/3 of the people have NO hurricane plan (they do not stock any supplies or have any evacuation plan if the need arises)!

If I lived in Florida or Louisiana I would be scared of hurricanes (the hurricane season is getting worse every year because of Global Warming). How can they not have plans to get out?!?

ok… my science teacher is pretty dumb.
i have been asked to do my homework with out the needed text book..

i really need the answers to these questions URGENTLY!!!!! ASAP!

1. at what time of the year is the risk of cyclones greatest. why?

2. some of the strongest north-west cyclones go almost unnoticed by the world outside the state, while significantly weaker tropical storms in other places such as florida or japan get much more news coverage. why is this?

3.why do cyclones always form over oceans?

4.how are cyclones different from tornadoes?

5.when and where do tornadoes occur in western australia?

6. most global warming models predidct that weather events in W.A will become more extreme. suggest what this will mean for cyclones and tornadoes.

if you could help me answer these questions i would be eternally greatful.
the work is very hard for me seeing as i am in year 9 and this is year 10 work.
the teacher has not even covered this chapter yet!!

The points you made in the movie might have had wider appeal if you did not alienate so many moviegoers in this manner.

4) Your presentation showing the past 650,000 years of atmospheric temperature and carbon dioxide reconstructions from ice cores was very effective. But I assume you know that some scientists view the CO2 increases as the result of, rather than the cause of, past temperature increases. It seems unlikely that CO2 variations have been the dominant cause of climate change for hundreds of thousands of years. And now that there is a new source of carbon dioxide emissions (people), those old relationships are probably not valid anymore. Why did you give no hint of these alternative views?

5) When you recounted your 6-year-old son’s tragic accident that nearly killed him, I thought that you were going to make the point that, if you had lived in a poor country like China or India , your son would have probably died. But then you later held up these countries as model examples for their low greenhouse gas emissions, without mentioning that the only reason their emissions were so low was because people in those countries are so poor. I’m confused…do you really want us to live like the poor people in India and China ?

6) There seems to be a lot of recent concern that more polar bears are drowning these days because of disappearing sea ice. I assume you know that polar bears have always migrated to land in late summer when sea ice naturally melts back, and then return to the ice when it re-freezes. Also, if this was really happening, why did the movie have to use a computer generated animation of the poor polar bear swimming around looking for ice? Haven’t there been any actual observations of this happening? Also, temperature measurements in the arctic suggest that it was just as warm there in the 1930’s…before most greenhouse gas emissions. Don’t you ever wonder whether sea ice concentrations back then were low, too?

7) Why did you make it sound like simply signing on to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions would be such a big step forward, when we already know it will have no measurable effect on global temperatures anyway? And even though it represents such a small emission reduction, the economic pain Kyoto causes means that almost no developed country will be meeting its emission reductions commitments under that treaty, as we are now witnessing in Europe .

At the end of the movie, you made it sound like we can mostly fix the global warming problem by conserving energy… you even claimed we can reduce our carbon emissions to zero. But I’m sure you know that this will only be possible with major technological advancements, including a probable return to nuclear power as an energy source. Why did you not mention this need for technological advancement and nuclear power? It is because that would support the current (Republican) Administration’s view?

Mr. Gore, I think we can both agree that if it was relatively easy for mankind to stop emitting so much carbon dioxide, that we should do so. You are a very smart person, so I can’t understand why you left so many important points unmentioned, and you made it sound so easy.

I wish you well in these efforts, and I hope that humanity will make the right choices based upon all of the information we have on the subject of global warming. I agree with you that global warming is indeed a "moral issue," and if we are to avoid doing more harm than good with misguided governmental policies, we will need more politicians to be educated on the issue.

I was just listening to Pat Robertson on You Tube. Terrorists do take advantage of political changes, 1993 (Clinton), 2001 (Bush), 2007 (New Congress?). Not a big leap to think of a terrorist attack in 2007. Kind of an anti-climax announcement.

But it did get me thinking, how many people actually prepare for a possible disaster by having a few days of food around, flash lights, medical supplies, that kind of thing. The normal Red Cross Be Prepared kind of thing.

All the "Oh my God the world is going to be destroyed by…" Nuclear war, global warming, terrorists, hurricanes, tornadoes, infestations of caterpillars, etc can leave this one alone.

I just want to know how many reasonably normal people have checked out ready.gov and have some emergency supplies around in case of a disaster.
Thanks. The ratio of real answers to silly answers tells me a lot too. Looks like if there was a major disaster any major urban center in the country things would end up a lot like they were in Louisiana. On the other hand, it kind of looks like people in rural or suburban areas might be better prepared. Kind of a common sense thing I would guess. some kind of ratio of storage space versus costs versus convince and availability, I would assume.

Does anyone even care? I mean with the fast paced life we live in…..Does anyone even realize what "we" are doing to Mother Earth? I wonder………well, the Ice (polar cap) is melting at an
abnormal rate than it should. The Oceans are rising, The Volcanos are acting up, Tsunami’s are wiping out not one but several "Countrys" at a time! and the Thousands of lives taken?
Tornadoes in California? Earthquakes at their deadliest! really hot summers and freezing winters! The sting on my skin from the sun indicates lesser protection from our Ozone…….Sound like nonsense? Global Warming! is the reason I feel. So now what should "we" do to stop the distruction before it’s to late?

I’ve had a fear of tornadoes all my life…even when I lived on an island lol. I’m in NC now….but I’ve been hearing that Global Warming is going to create more violent tornadoes than ever before. That made my fear of them even worse. Even when it rains I run for cover. Maybe I’m crazy lol

ok so yesterday and today i saw all of california's extreme weather: tornados, flash floods, 110+ weather, and then this morning there was a 4.7 earthquake. so now r we gonna have a hurricane or wat? lol is this global warming?

A tornado touched down in Kenosha Wisconsin today.

I think this is the icing on the cake for the Global Warming argument. Our weather is getting crazier and more violent every year. Nevermind that huge chunks of ice fall into the oceans every day due to the increasing temperatures. People are so blind. I guess people will believe anything as long as they can keep driving their gas guzzlers and indulge in their gluttonous lifestyles.
several subdivisions have been wrecked. It's so sad. I'm watching the news right now.
