like in california they have earthquakes, and there is a risk for hurricanes in the gulf and along the east coast. the midwest has the threat of tornadoes in the spring and summer months, and there can be fierce blizzards in the rockies

i mean, everyone makes such a big deal about the earthquakes in Southern Cali. Hello people I would rather live where I can get a few good massages a year than to watch my house be blown away!

I don’t know too much about them, but hopefully I can provide enough info about him. He is pretty old and he was in the Navy. When he was in ther Navy he wrote papers about his findings and theories of how to stop tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters as they were occurring. He gave them to other people in the Navy and they tried out some of them and they actually worked(I think it was to stop a hurricane) and they just never did it again. He got mad at them and ended up leaving. He was a substitute teacher for one of my Science classes when I was in Eight grade(a little over a year ago) and his last name is Thompson(Not sure if that’s how it’s spelled). After he told us these things he was going to show us the papers, but the class ended. The next day we had our regular teacher again and he told us that it was all true and that it did happen. Don’t know if this helps, but he taught my class in Oregon. As I said he isn’t very famous so if anyone knows anymore that would be great.

I was talking to my in laws and fiance last night about how we should really be prepared for a disaster, whether it be natural or man made. I was speaking of non perishible food supplies and water and even a generator. They thought it wasnt feasable since we live in an area not prone to hurricanes or earthquakes. Basically with the mind frame, we live in an area where that stuff doesnt happen. I felt like they were making fun of me for worrying about future possibities. I am wondering if I am being irrational or if I am being a responsible person looking out for my family in the future. What do you think?

Society is seeking to destroy itself and mother nature is striking back from the centuries of abuse we have given her. The authorities, governments, organizations wring their hands and say "how dreadful, we must do something about this" but then turn to solve other problems and invest monies in things such as the war on terrorism. Rather then worrying about how other people see the world and their faith, how about we leave them alone and put in a genuine effort to fix the problems plaguing our Earth! In the end the economy, the different way people view religion, right and wrong and morality; matter not at all when our world is dead, drained of basic resources such as food and oxygen and most of our population lay decimated. Harsh words, and possibly dramatic. Do you honestly believe mother nature is not beginning to strike back and fix the balance? Tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes; the incidence of these things is on the rise- without giving mention to the corrupt state of our governments and the power plays there in, the decline of society and the undermining of humanities faith, whether that be the christian god, buddha or any other faith. Please, does anyone out there see my point of view? You, me, the next door neighbor? Give it 100 years and we’ll be dead so what do we really matter? Humanity is only one species on this Earth, and its only us that says we are the superior beings. The Earth is not for us alone, but for all life. Lets say damn the oil companies, damn the mining companies and all the other big companies that buy our governments and corrupt our civilization for their own ends because if we continue the way we are; your dollar isn’t going to get you a damn thing! Damn the economy and save the environment!

I want to live in a different State other than California but I am not sure where to go. I can tolerate a little snow about a couple of feet. The climate can’t be too hot preferrably in the 70-90 range (no 100 Degree weather) I don’t want to live where there are tornadoes or earthquakes. I want to live in a safe, cheap, small, relaxed town with low crime rate and maybe a country setting. I am also looking for a State that allows you to own a variety of animals like skunks, squirrels, hedge hogs or ferrets. I LOVE and would LOVE to be able to have animals that are exotic in CA but not in the state where I would move to. It has to have a Jr. college close by and a University or something to further my education. I have a huge passion for animals but I am not sure what I want to major in. It is hard to figure out where I want to move to. Also, if you have suggestions about where I can go to obtain info on different States without having to visit any to find out that would be great.

Natural disasters, god-like activities or a scientific phenomenon, either way it is still a life changing tragedy. Merriam Webster defines tragedy: A serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force. What is more tragic than a spontaneous natural disaster happening right beside you, well it definitely beats a death of a neighbour’s dog or a murder down the street. In this case – Man vs. Nature-we are dealing with a much greater force: the simple power of nature. The wrath caused by natural disasters does not only bring drama to one man, but it affects everything and anything in its path. Nothing, not even the intelligence of humankind can stop a tremendous force of natural disasters caused by hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods. The only things we can do is stop, and think of what comes to mind often when regarding natural disasters as they cause the pain of the loss of a loved one, devastation of your life through your only means of shelter, and the emotional pain that it takes to endure a tragedy such as this one. Tragedies such as these are very difficult to handle for many people.

Humans in general are VERY two faced. But there are good ones out there and luckily I am one of them. But I do not need to stand up and shout I am good.

I don’t need attention, I enjoy being friendly and making people happy. Even though at the same time I want to punch some people out.

We do not own Planet Earth, we did not create the Universe. Earth owns us. It’s natural disasters are more powerful than our disasters.

Earthquakes? Hurricanes? Tornadoes? Thunder Storms? Tsunamis? etc.

Yes humans are very destructive, but the Earth’s natural disasters are the disasters that kill us a lot and can’t be stopped.

Yes we cause pollution, yes we build homes, but somehow that wrecks the earth. So we go GREEN.

Well we need homes too, we can’t all ride horses anymore you know. Planet Earth was never ours, we didn’t have cars when the Ice Age occurred.

So now what? The polar ice caps are melting? Global warming?

PEOPLE! the only reason why this world is so hateful is because people put negative thoughts in their heads all the time.

The Universe controls your life, you want negative you will get negative.

You want positive? Put positive thoughts into your head and the Universe will bring positivity to you!

You need shelter, and the animals can’t stop you from building homes!

Now that she was forced to drop out the race and is not even promised anything in Obama’s sucess?

Will she cause more tornadoes to ravage the mid-west or cause a hurricane to ravage the south. Maybe some earthquakes to destroy villages to our pacific neighbors in a effort to cause a war.
What is her wrath gonna be?

Should I get inside my bom shelter that was made during the cold war and be ready?

Duck and Cover seems like a good idea come to think of it.
Sorry that’s bomb shelter not bom shelter, I was in a hurry getting the generator ready.

History shows that many rebellious nations whose kings/dictators were very powerful, in fact the most powerful on earth, were punished and destroyed by wrath of God Almighty. Look at Nimrod, Pharaoh, the Romans and the Greeks in the past and Germany and Soviet Union in the recent past.Because of their arrogance they used the resources God gave them for loot, plunder and destruction, instead of using those for the benefit of humanity like feeding the hungry, treating the sick and providing shelter to the shelter-less

Not only American currency is under awful pressure, but also hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones and earthquakes have been hitting the shore cities of the USA. Is God Almighty giving a warning to Americans?
I am afraid it is America’s turn now. What do you think?
Josephine!
Don’t you think I should inform others, if I am sincere to my fellow human beings? Like a seer informs people of the ship to be aware of coming cyclone.

With the recent fierce weather being in the news, I’ve been looking at various survival kits for earthquakes/tornados/hurricanes/floods, etc. (No, I don’t expect all of those to come at me at once.)

I was wondering what people recommend? Buying your own? Is there a particular brand that you like? What do you do with the various supplies in there when they near their expiration date? Eat them? Donate them?

My family’s always tended toward buying in bulk so we always have plenty on hand for whatever reason. What do you do?

Since the results of terrorist attacks, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, floods, fires, etc; are:

Prewarnings
Fear
Run and/or take shelter
Lost Property
Unplanned Injuries
Unplanned Fatalities
Lost Money
Lost Credibility
Lost Memories
Rescue Efforts
Recovery Efforts
Salvaging through rubble
Cleaning up after someone/something else’s actions
Rebuilding/Relocating
Re-Establishing;

Should the National Agencies that deal with Terrorism be involved with the PreWarnings through the Re-Establishings??
"Are tornados fighting for freedom?"?

YES!!

Tornados seek refuge from the sky and mountains and anything that would dissipate them!!
Source: Mother Nature.
mb37;

Definition of terrorism: 1; The act of terrorizing OR the STATE of BEING TERRORIZED. 2; Unlawful acts of violence committed in an attempt to overthrow a government. 3;A system of government that rules by intimidation.

Definition of terror: 1; An overwhelming impulse of fear; extreme fright or dread. 2; A person OR THING that causes extreme fear. 3; ‘informal’; An intolerable nuiscence.

I really believe that tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, fires, collisions, tsunamis, avalanches, explosions, etc; that provoke unplanned fears and cause undue damages fits all the dictionary definitions.

Source: Funk & Wagnalls Standard Desktop Dictionary.

Your definitions are definitely there, also.
Climber;

So you agree that the Department of Homeland Security is a "lame duck’ agency? Per what you stated, the CIA and FBI does all the criminal stuff, FEMA and Local Agencies does all the natural disaster stuff, and Homeland Security is left with "twiddling their thumbs"?

Hurricane Katrina had FEMA, the National Guard, and additional Federal Agencies pulling a majority of the items listed!!

I have to disagree with your assessments of my questions, because I’ve seen too many natural disasters take more lives on our homeland soils than the military troop losses on a yearly basis, even through the Iraq War.

I believe all disasters are terrorizing, on different levels, sure, but all are terrorizing. Citizen Fatalaties to failed building structure frames, is a major injustice, especially when every other technology is modern, and the entire construction industry is using centuries-old technology to protect us with!! THAT"S SCARY, TERRORIZING, AND DESTRUCTIVE; INTOLERANT!!
Here’s my BEEF:

EVERY object and product in and on you/our buildings is modern technology:

I’ve lived through both. California native and also lived 6 years in OKC, before moving back home to California. We lived there during the May 3rd tornado that took out Norman, OK. I’ll take earthquakes any ol’day over a tornado. What’s your preference?
Vot-we have earthquakes often here in California, very, very rarely do they cause damage, just a rumble and shake. I guess Californians are used to them. But you see a tornado hit your house, it’s gone.

Based on news reports after fires, floods, earthquakes, tornados, etc., the survivors seem to think so.

If so, God is responsible for the deaths too.

So, why did God kill 250,000 people in the Asian tsunami?
Mashu: if death is not a bad thing, then why is it cited as a divine punishment throughout the Bible?
the witness: what about Thailand (Buddhist and Christian), India (Hindu, Christian), Sri Lanka (Buddhist). It wasn’t just Aceh that got hit!

I want to move to california, but I need to know where…here is my list of requirements
No bad weather (tornadoes hurricanes earthquakes)
Not a lot of violence
Nice looking neighborhood
Cheap ass apartments that are spacious
And finally, a place that is in an area that I can get acting possibilities, near the beach, possibly further my magic career, and get medicinal marijuana.
If you can name a city I’ll give you all possible points
Also I would like to know if there is place in ca that gets snow every year!

So many times, I hear people talk about how they couldn’t live in California "because of the earthquakes." Well, we just had a 5.8. It was the first quake I can even remember in the last five years… no deaths or even reported damage yet. The last SERIOUS quake we had was over 15 years ago, and while it did do some serious damage up north, I was so far away that I slept through it. Now…. hurricanes and tornados are a different story. Hurricanes destroy whole sections of the country, and tornados are even deadlier because of the lack of warning. Granted, there’s virtually no warning for earthquakes, but I’ve been here 28 years and never even been affected by one. What are some of your opinions?
Okay. I’m just saying… year in, year out…. total chaos on East Coast. The REAL problem here is actually the fires.

And yes, I know that the 9.0 will make me need new underwear.

Lady Louisiana… Um… I did remember it. It’s right there if you read….
I see what some of you are saying, but this is the score after 28 years here.

California: Got woken up by the Northridge quake fifteen years ago; class was cancelled today because of the quake; a tiny rumble that I barely even notice once a year or so, but fires that ravage the state every year.

South East Coast: Areas destroyed every single year by hurricanes and tornados. Complete devastation with loss of life (no matter the warnings).

I’m in San Diego and we had a HUGE earthquake today, the biggest we’ve had in a long, long time. So far no major damage but it was pretty trippy when I was sitting on a wooden bench outside and all of a sudden it felt like someone grabbed the bench and started shaking it back and forth as hard as they could! My aunt lost some shingles off her roof, and we had some pictures fall off our wall, and apparently the library at my college was damaged somehow, but I don’t think it was anything major.

But they say dogs can sense things like earthquakes before they happen. Mine didn’t…they whined and shook while it was happening, but no abnormal behavior before it happened. Did your dogs sense the earthquake before it happened? Or if you’ve had an earthquake (or tornado/ hurricane/ cyclone/ etc) in your area in the past, did your dog sense that before it happened?
Uhavetobe: seriously??? I did a search and I didn’t come up with anything…then again I only went back maybe 3 or 4 pages. :/

I was born in california but moved to minnesota when I was in 2nd grade and been living here ever since. I just turned 20 recently. I have no family here except my mom, 2bros and sis, and they are moving back to cali this summer.

I just found out that Minnesota, North dakota, and iowa are the only 3 states that dont get earthquakes. With all the earthquakes happening lately and I heard the other day that cali had an earthquake recently Im pretty scared to move back to california. I’ve only been thru tornadoes, they are pretty scary sometimes but they only come bout 2-3 during the summer and I havent been thru one in a year and a half.

People who live in california, what do you normally do for and earthquake? For tornadoes, sirens go off when one has touched the ground letting you know to go the basement or cellar, are there any warning for eathquakes?

My boyfriend lives in florida and I was considering moving there after a year in cali, if I can try and stay calm a year there, then I planned to move out in florida. What is the weather like in flordia?
