Where are you located?

I live in New York and we had rain and a lot of wind from Hurricane Earl, we also had a few tornados and an earthquake. It has also had the hottest year on Record. In August in NY it was reported to be the rainest month ever.

What about you?

Via the best thing, I mean. This has never happened before in history but what should you do if a tornado were to hit and an earthquake both in the same location simulataneously and you were upstairs full of windows to stay safe from the earthquake but puts you in danger of the tornado storm that is also going on or if you’re down basement, you’re safe from the tornado but also put yourself in danger of the earthquake. Please help! I don’t want to have one of my internet friends killed because of this and I’d do everything that’s right to protect my friends.

i was watching TV and saw so many different updates about famous ppl and organizations donating millions and millions of dollars and clothes and food and im thinking "whoa! this 0 million dollars you have stashed away couldnt have been used earlier to help ppl in america?!"

We are in an economic crisis and have so many homeless ppl and the rates are growing each year! so much of that money could be used to build homeless shelters and centers that help ppl get back on their feet! We also have natural disasters all the time! A city close to mine was completely wiped out (the whole city) by a series of tornadoes and they were not helped as much as they could have been.

I know we should help others, im not saying i dont care. but does anyone else feel a little angry that so much money and funds are being used on other countries when its really needed at home?
some ppl are misunderstanding me.

im saying so many ppl have had money stashed away for so long, before the earthquake and havent done anything to help here in america. yes, i have seen dead bodies, smashed houses, many lives ruined. like i said, that tornado completely took out the whole city! (which is big!) but no one cared. kanye west didnt, george clooney didnt, even our own government denied help because apparently the damage has to reach a certain amount of money before they can pitch anything in. its disgusting.

but we can go across the world and take care of others. aside from the loss of lives, (im not saying whatsoever that losing a loved one is a good thing) this is a wonderful thing to happen to haiti, now they have the publicity, because all of a sudden, everyone actually cares and wants to help. people are going to get shelter they didnt have before the earthquake, people are going to have food they couldnt afford before the earthquake.

just saying…

today my house lost power… i was pissed… i found out we had experienced and earthquake very near the time i remembered the power going out and wonder if maybe that did it (the quake was so mild i didnt feel it myself). now in the evening we had the sirens go off and reports on the news (after the utility man came and fixed our power) of at least 1 or 2 (possibly more) funnel clouds touching down near the airport and in Dearborn. i mentioned it to my friend and she asked me to find out if that has ever happened before here. ive lived ere 18 years and never experienced either! now they happen in a single day?! what are the chances! if anyone has information on this google and bing give me a whole bunch of crap from weather sites not related to what i wanted to find out. thanks all =]

this is for a final project for science. i had to use vocab words.
~~~~
The skies were very stormy. There were tornados in the water. Their plane was having a lot of air resistance due to the high wind speed. Nothing but a slight view of a lake on the island could be seen due to all of the fog. Suddenly the pilot’s altimeter was showing that the plane was stalling. They were headed straight down to the lake. When the plane hit the lake with a huge splash it was eventually slowed down by the fluid friction of the lake. The plane was starting to sink rapidly with great force.
They looked out of their window for a frame of reference as to where they were. They had to get out of the plane because the plane was sinking rapidly with great force. After they got out of the plane they walked a distance until they came to a small village. They looked on their map and saw that the vector that they were in was a small town called Pottsville. In another resultant vector of the map it said, “abandoned nuclear power plant”. Just than a fog much thicker than the fog before was approaching at an increasing speed. After about an hour after staying at an old store for shelter an earthquake moving at a sudden instantaneous speed had just started. They ran outside and ran into a field and just as they left the entire village fell down.
They looked ahead and they saw flashing red lights. As they looked at the approaching building they saw that they were moving at a fast relative motion. As they came closer to the structure they figured that it must be the nuclear power plant working on strong nuclear force and generating a weak Nuclear force that the map had mentioned. As they came nearer to the plant zombies started to come out of the doors at a fast average speed. They ran away from the zombies at the plant at a high velocity.
Suddenly they fell down with a hard net force but were able to get up again because of the friction on their shoes. There was a strike of lightning that just narrowly missed them and they felt the static friction of the strike. The zombies were getting closer and were approaching with high terminal velocity. They approached a town name Newton and were approaching the town’s docks. They found a boat and started the boats engines. They could feel the boats inertia as the boat sputtered and the engine eventually failed.
The zombies were getting so close now that they were feeling the zombies gravitational force. They found a harpoon gun on the boat and shot it into the crowd of zombies. Unfortunately the harpoon gun’s projectile motion was off and the harpoon hit a gas station. Just then the gas station exploded with a lot of momentum and the law of conservation of momentum almost seemed to not apply the explosion was so great. A large mass of zombies was wiped out and the explosion caused a few buildings to topple over and making a lot of zombies weight. They escaped to a bank and found a vault to hide in. they could not get the vault to open it because an electromagnetic force locked it. They got to the basement to shut off the power. They moved the door to the vault open with a lot of sliding friction. Suddenly gravity caused several zombies to come out of the ceiling with rolling friction.
Topic: Natural Disasters
Directions:
Read the following paragraph and write a composition as stated in about 300 words. Your composition will be graded according to clarity, accuracy and meaningfulness.
A natural disaster is the effect of a natural hazard (e.g. flood, drought, tornado, volcano eruption, earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, or landslide) that affects the environment, and brings financial, environmental and human losses. We can see many natural disasters occurring at home and abroad recently, huge damage have been made either to the environment or to our human lives. Those natural disasters urge us to reconsider our beliefs and behavior toward our mother nature when we seek for clothes, food, and sheltering etc.
Therefore, what is your attitude toward the natural disasters? What shall we do to prevent us from being simply destroyed? What kind of role did we play in the causes of those dreadful disasters? Your writing ought to contain three parts, your viewpoint, the supporting ideas, and the conclusion.
I NEED AN ESSAY,NOT OPINION OR SOMETHING LIKE INTRUDOCTION. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? THANKS!
tornados: our house was often in jeapordy of these as a kid and i was just absolutely fascinated by them but I have dreams about tornados, whether its me just watching them and not running away though they are coming at me, driving in a car, trying to find shelter, trying to warn people, etc but its reoccurring (2-4 times a week)
tsunamis: or just water in general, but the big wave one gets me, like I run toward it as though im taunting it, and then im like o shit go save my friends but then i never run away (once a week)
Hills/steep slopes: i find myself going really close to edges, steep hills, sides of buildings, cliffs, it makes me sooo anxious and i tell myself get away from the edge but i never fall off it
My old neighborhood: random scenes, but most of my dreams take place here no matter whats happening, we moved away from there several years ago
lol, if i can’t go in any hilly/mountainous area, and earthquake prone area, I can’t go near any body of water, and i can’ go to the plains where there are tornadoes than where in the heck would i go?? maybe ill go live in a space station
Especially people who come from places with hurricane and tornadoes. I find it interesting. What makes an earthquake more horrifying than having to run from something that can throw you across two counties? I have lived in Southern California my whole life and have never felt one scary enough to even freak out about and I have never had anything ever damaged because of one.
But tornadoes and hurricanes cause more damage and kill more lives wayyyy more often than an earthquake ever does. They are way over hyped.
The thing is… people are obviously missing my point. What makes an earthquake scarier than a hurricane? Obviously there are deadly earthquakes but those are so rare it’s not funny. Especially in the USA.
We want out of California to a less populated state with good air quality. Affordable yet free of natural disasters we aren’t used to, cannot move where tornadoes & blizzards devastate. Montana seems like the best state overall for our needs, yet I cannot ignore the potential racism we may face being a caucasian/Hispanic couple, with children. We’ve only encountered issues while traveling, but not at home. I don’t want my husband being at a disadvantage career wise, or my children experiencing racist hatred. Opinions?
21 questions- I’ve lived in CA the majority of my life and have only dealt with extreme heat, & a teeny earthquake. The worst disaster I’ve had to deal with of the natural variety, are garden weeds.
G Man AKA Jack Bauer- Your input is clearly smothered in racism, which is ugly & unwanted. People like you, should be sent to concentration camps, sterilized, then given lobotomies.
I am looking for a state where it is not too hot in the summer, and not too cold in the winter. Doesn’t snow in the winter and in the summer ppl don’t get sunburn’t. A state where I can go outside anytime of the year in short sleeve shirts. I don’t want to goto california, because of high earthquake rate. Basically the state should have the most refreshing climate and the style of living should be good too. Don’t care about cost of housing. Just the quality of life. And it should be safe too from natural disasters like hurricanes or tornados.
Regardless if it’s following into oblivion financially.
Regardless if you want to fire it’s entire government.
Regardless the increasing cost.
I really love California’s weather and that’s the only reason I live here.
No tornadoes, no hurricanes, no snow, not too hot, not too cold. And in my city when there is an earthquake we barely feel it. The Big San Francisco one, I didn’t even feel it.
But I really want to kill it’s government.
Any other Californians feel the same? Or people in other areas who live in a state for weather only, and what state or country?
I’m in San Diego and we had a HUGE earthquake today, the biggest we’ve had in a long, long time. So far no major damage but it was pretty trippy when I was sitting on a wooden bench outside and all of a sudden it felt like someone grabbed the bench and started shaking it back and forth as hard as they could! My aunt lost some shingles off her roof, and we had some pictures fall off our wall, and apparently the library at my college was damaged somehow, but I don’t think it was anything major.
But they say dogs can sense things like earthquakes before they happen. Mine didn’t…they whined and shook while it was happening, but no abnormal behavior before it happened. Did your dogs sense the earthquake before it happened? Or if you’ve had an earthquake (or tornado/ hurricane/ cyclone/ etc) in your area in the past, did your dog sense that before it happened?
Uhavetobe: seriously??? I did a search and I didn’t come up with anything…then again I only went back maybe 3 or 4 pages. :/
I was born in california but moved to minnesota when I was in 2nd grade and been living here ever since. I just turned 20 recently. I have no family here except my mom, 2bros and sis, and they are moving back to cali this summer.
I just found out that Minnesota, North dakota, and iowa are the only 3 states that dont get earthquakes. With all the earthquakes happening lately and I heard the other day that cali had an earthquake recently Im pretty scared to move back to california. I’ve only been thru tornadoes, they are pretty scary sometimes but they only come bout 2-3 during the summer and I havent been thru one in a year and a half.
People who live in california, what do you normally do for and earthquake? For tornadoes, sirens go off when one has touched the ground letting you know to go the basement or cellar, are there any warning for eathquakes?
My boyfriend lives in florida and I was considering moving there after a year in cali, if I can try and stay calm a year there, then I planned to move out in florida. What is the weather like in flordia?
Which team is worse? Because Tornadoes, Hurricanes, and Lightning storms can cause great damage and have powerful winds sometimes. . But Volcanoes, Earthquakes, and Tsunamis can cause alot of damage. I wanna know cause i’m so curious. Team air facts: Tornadoes: They can spin around and pick u up and throw u somewhere u dont know. Hurricanes: They can cause some flooding and damage. Lighting storms: They can sometimes start fires and it zaps the tallest thing it can find. Now team earth facts: Earthquakes: They can cause big tsunamis and fires and cause cracks in the ground. Volcanoes: They can cause earthquakes, tsunamis, and worse fires. Tsunamis: Holy crap dude, run when u see one. They cause massive flooding like the one in 2004. Please tell me which team would win!!! Team air (Tornado, Hurricane, Lighting storm) or Team earth (Earthquake, Volcano. Tsunami). NOTE: IF U TYPE A INAPPROPRIATE ANSWER AND U THINK IM GAY I’LL CONTACT YAHOO ANSWERS AND ASK TO BAN U. I HAVE BEEN CALLED MANY THINGS AND I WILL SEND U A MESSAGE BACK ON UR QUESTION SAYING A VERY MEAN COME BACK SO WATCH IT!!!
I recently read a report in the news warning of a "catastrophic" earthquake being possible in Vancouver BC very soon. I’ve been researching Vancouver recently and am looking to move there to live from east coast US. This is the first time ive heard of earthquakes there. Are earthquakes frequent in Vancouver? Is there real danger for a "catastrophic" earthquake to occur? Does the Vancouver government have natural disaster readiness programs/education in effect? Is this something I should fear if looking into moving there in the next few years? (ie: reason why no one moves to ‘Tornado Valley’ or why people are wary of living in San Fran…??)
I live in southern California, where it never rains. lol!
Here, we have seen much rain and it will be raining throughout the week, into the weekend. I have not seen this much rain in fifteen years.
We are also under a tornado watch, which is unheard of here. The winds are predicted to get up to 40mph or higher tomorrow, aside from the warning today.
Usually what happens here, moves on across the country (USA) with increasing intensity.
Could the earthquake in Haiti be the reverberating cause of our weather patterns here?
It is all connected…
Thank you Mark, I feel a ‘little’ better now…
And thanks to jacjolantern too! :D
I’ve seen a lot of people say that this disaster or that is the result of our sins. Katrina happened because of sin, etc. So I’m trying to sort this out:
When the tornado hit the Boy Scout Camp, was it God’s wrath that they don’t allow homosexuals?
Is the flooding in the heartand because God doesn’t approve of their Republican voting record?
Why hasn’t God wiped out California and New York? I mean, He got Soddom, Gammorah, and New Orleans. And what about those cities in Asia where "sex tourism" is big – people go there to exploit children. Why doesn’t God wipe out THOSE places?
It just seems like God’s priorities are a bit whack. Can you explain this?
Wow… Krypton, that is seriously convoluted. So, God punishes homosexual acts by sending a tornado to get an organization that bans homosexuals?
And he sends an earthquake to get a bunch of Chinese villagers to punish Thialand?
I live in Houston Texas. I was wondering if anyone here has been through or seen a tornado here in Houston and how bad was it? I also want to know if you think it would be wise (with houstons flooding and all) to have a seller put in incase of a tornado? I came from Cali and hate the earthquakes but hey…at least you know when a tornado will possibly hit and where. with an earthquake you just don’t know. OH also, can a seller (like in "the wizard of oz" and "where the heart is") really be okay in a tornado of any catagory (like f1-f5)? Has anyone heard of anyone getting sucked out or anything. I know a scary thought but I have 2 kids and I want to be prepared. How deep and wide should a seller/shelter be? Thanks
