In terms of earthquakes and tornados it seems like we never really get them in Oregon. I think there was one in Redding bu that was just because it’s so close to California and California is dangerouse. The last time we had an earthquake in Linn County was when I was a little girl. And it was so light that I slept through it. And I am 27 now. So Oregon seems like really safe state. What do you think?

yesterday’s news of tornadoes in Massachusetts shocked me, i didn’t think they were possible way out there, the area is more likely to be hit by hurricanes instead. its not in or anywhere near the "tornado alley" parts of the US. but as i read more, apparently Massachusetts does have tornadoes (historically).

makes me wonder, are tornadoes possible where i live, Los Angeles Metro area of California?
what about hurricanes? I learned in school that both tornadoes and hurricanes are impossible, but that was also when we had 9 planets around the sun.

I need to now whether they’re possible and if any has ever been recorded in my area. I want to know because I want to be prepared for them if they were to come. (our homes have no basements, violates earthquake codes)
well, could southern California, specially the areas around los angeles, have those conditions for tornado/hurricane happen?

As we all know, Alabama is a strong hold for religion and part of the well-known Bible Belt. Now, as you fundies claimed before that the Tsunami and Earthquake before in Japan was due to their non belief, how do you explain the tornadoes in Alabama? Is that God trying to bring his fellow christians home? HA!

I am in the middle of writing a book. It’s about a place called Haven City, which is on an Island. It’s going to take place in the future. But I am not saying exactly when in the future. So people in every time can read my story and feel like that’s what life might be, or was like at some point in time.

People on the island are all genetically engineered, because recessive traits are really rare in this time; and people (scientists) want to keep these traits around for a long time. Blue, green, gray, light brown eyes are really rare outside of the island. Also Blonde, and light brown hair colors.

With all of the genetic engineering going on, there are some people who turn out looking like monsters, and or having super powers. The government doesn’t like these ”creatures”, and put them in camps. After a few years the ”creatures” die off. But some of the genetically enhanced people are born with powers, which develop when they hit puberty, some of them don’t even know that they have powers.

The genetically enhanced people with super powers keep their powers secret; but after a few years the government figures out they have powers, and take them away to ”take tests”. (They aren’t taking tests, they’re killing them. It’s just a COVER UP.) After some time the government decides to kill of all of the genetically enhanced people. Since they can’t send everyone to concentration camps, because people outside of the island will get suspicious, they use earthquakes, hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, and freak accidents, to kill them. (It takes place in the future so scientist can control weather.)

My story starts before the first earthquake. My character, Jonzey and people on the island, don’t know about the ”creatures” and that the government wants to kill them, or that they can control "mother nature".
Since the main character doesn’t know all this, the reader will find this out as the character does, later on in the story.

My character does have a power, two actually. He can shoot some kind of energy/fire ball out of his hands. He doesn’t know he has this power until later in the book. He can also absorb other peoples powers, but he figures this out towards the way end of the book. He is going to use this power more often in the second book.

It sounds kind of like X-men, but it’s not. OK?

My story’s going to have action, suspense, thrill, adventure, and even some romance…
…But mostly action.

Don’t worry about my story sounding generic. I am very creative. I’ve been told it’s similar to some books, or that it’s been done. I am not trying to copy anyone, I am writing from my own imagination.
It’s going to be really original. Every thing in my story will be, trust me.
Sometimes books might sound the same; but that’s because it’s like a genre, or a sub-genre. Some video games seem similar to another video game. Some movies seem similar to other movies. It’s not copying

Oh. I forgot to say. My story has great dialogged so far. And there isn’t implausible junk in my story, that is just in a story for the sake of entertainment. It doesn’t have lazy writing is what I mean.

I always got the highest score when ever I had to do a free write. And when I read one of my stories in class everyone listened and payed attention. So I think I can write interesting stories.

Scotty helps Jimmy look for Amy.

Jonzey has a power, two actually. He can shoot some kind of energy/fire ball out of his hands. He doesn’t know he has this power until later in the book. Here is a little preview of my story…

Jonzey looked at Haven City from the quiet solitude of his train compartment, sipping a cup of bitter coffee, waiting for the train to depart from the platform. As he watched the city, tiny details began to catch his eyes; the buildings catching the rays of the orange sunset, and the glistening water crashing against the grainy beach.

The train abruptly started to move, and he watched as the city started to drift away. While he was enjoying the sunset in the horizon, he thought of what people might be like outside of Haven City. Would they be the way they were on TV or movies? Would they be materialistic and only focus on appearances? Would they have so many surgeries done to their bodies and faces that they lack facial expression?

Jonzey’s mood inexplicably changed, he tapped his foot uncontrollably, unable to stop. There was an icy cold spot in the bottom of his stomach, making him feel nervous. The cold spot in his stomach started to grow,
… until he was shivering all around. He didn’t know why he felt so awkward; it was like he could sense some catastrophe about to happen. He couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up, placed his coffee on the arm rest, and started to walk to the bathroom.

Without warning the train started to shake, making Jonzey lose his balance. Desperate, he grasped the rail above his head, but a violent shudder flung him towards his seat. He tried to sit straight, but it was impossible. The train tossed him in the air repeatedly. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribcage.

Suddenly the train plummeted into the lower level of the freeway. The sound of crunching steel and shattering glass exploded in his ears as the train made contact with the concrete. His head smashed against something hard. Everything went dark.

Jonzey started to regain consciousness. He kept his eyes closed. His sense of hearing seemed to be enhanced; he was able to hear the water underneath the train tracks, and the s
… sounds of seagulls fling above the ocean. He slowly opened his eyes, and was able to see that he was face down on the train’s doors. The train had fallen into a slanted position, with one end on the lower freeway level, and the other on the middle level.

He gently rolled to his back. He hadn’t hurt himself much, just a few minor cuts and bruises. Jonzey placed his left arm on his stomach, and with his right hand rubbed his forehead. His head was killing him; it felt like someone had hit his head with a crow bar.

From this position, Jonzey observed the train wreck and took it all in. It was unreal, almost like a dream. There was broken glass everywhere. Some of the lights had ripped out of the ceiling and hung from cables.

The light from outside indicated it was morning. How long had he been unconscious?

I WAS USING THIS TO SAVE MY STORY IDEA. OKAY? I WOULD HAVE EMAILED IT TOM MYSELF, BUT THIS SEEMS BETTER… IDUNNO.

I am a native born Californian, who has lived in the same city my entire life, and I always see so much hate against Californians coming from other states. I have heard horror stories of people having their brand new cars keyed while driving through other states because, they have California license plates, one person keyed a US Army veterans car because, he had California purple heart plates. People from other states wish we would die in an earthquake, which is laughable because, I would rather deal with a magnitude 6.0 every 25 years (our buildings are designed to survive up to 8.5) then a hurricane or tornado every year.

Should we just cutoff all resources to the US, I am sure the military and everyone else will have fun relying on Chinese silicon chips instead of American chips produced in Silicon Valley. What about a vast majority of of the produce in the US which comes from this state? What about all your movies and video games, most of which are either produced in this state or companies have their North American offices based here. Your aircraft parts? Even though Hughes is now owned by Boeing the factories here still pump out aircraft parts for aircraft of all shapes and sizes? Cars? Solar panels? Wine, Beer? I could go on and on.

Okay so i find it really weird how theres been a lot of problems going on lately, like the earth quake that happend in Japan… everything started in japan in the movie 2012.. and they found radiation things in the movie too.. now radiation moved to the USA in california (very little) but still! and also i learned this
youu take the dates 09-11-01 (the date from 9/11) + 03-10-11 (the date from japans earthquake) = 12-21-12

basically im saying this
09-11-01
+ 03-10-11
_________
12-21-12
IS FUCKING 2012 REALLY GONNA HAPPEN!? IM SCARED NOWW!! now theres a tornado hitting where i am in california!!? whats going on!):
EDIT: UHM NO, FOR YOUR FUCKING INFORMATION, I HAVE FAMILY IN JAPAN, AND I THINK I WOULD FUCKING KNOW WHEN THE FUCK IT FUCKING HAPPEND! SO JUST FUCK OFF IF YOUU THINK YOUR RIGHT. YOUR WRONG. LOOK IT UP YOU FAGOT!
EDIT: ahahah youd wish id apoligize(: and nope !(: your wrong!(: just go get hit by a tsunami and see how youu feel!(: fuck off motha fuckaaa

If there’s a "God", why did those four nice old people on the news who were trying to PASS OUT BIBLES around the world get kidnapped by Somalian pirates and ultimately brutally killed (Feb. 22, 2011)? And what were they doing trying to give out Bibles around the world like that so close to Muslims and people of other cultures? Is this the Darwinian advance of one religion over another?

The way the world actually works mocks religious belief again and again yet people still have a primitive need to explain everything in terms of a warm fuzzy deity watching over us. Why did an Earthquake topple the city of "CHRISTCHURCH" in New Zealand (Feb. 22, 2011), including their church, killing or trapping hundreds of people. Couldn’t God step in an do anything, if not then, why not as they try to find survivors and take all the fallen debris away? We obviously have to rely on each other, not wait for God.

Why all over the world are there tsunamis and earthquakes, hurricanes and so on that kill thousands of people and ruin the lives of thousands more? Remember the very bad one DURING CHRISTMAS in 2006. Do you think all those thousands of people got to feel warm fuzzy "Christmas" feelings?

I saw a "Nova" special on PBS about the disappearance of flight 447 over the South Atlantic. It was later found in pieces in the water, everyone dead of course. Many probably had a horrible death by drowning or being eaten by sharks etc., I’m sure many of them believed a "God" was looking out for them. Well, I guess there wasn’t. This same thing happens again and again around the world.

People will get all excited about seeing a randomly created image of "the Virgin Mary" in a potato chip or in a stain pattern in an old wooden chair and they will say how "God is with us". Such flawed reasoning! Would God choose to reveal himself in such superficial ways instead of where he is really needed? On some wooden panels above my bed I can see the images of a "grey" alien and a frog etc. It’s like children looking at clouds and seeing random patterns and images in them. That’s all it is. By pure chance you can get an image, more or less, of just about anything, given enough clouds or potato chips or stain patterns.

I find it ridiculous when, on the local News, people who survive their house burning down or who survive robbery attempts or tornadoes, etc., will say "oh God saved me! He’s watching over me! Thank God!". You mean he wasn’t watching over you so that your house didn’t burn down, that there never was a robbery attempt in the first place or a tornado didn’t level your town, along with taking those other people who died in it? Or was he only partially watching over you? And what about all those other people who, all over the world don’t survive these things? Would God be so petty as to pick and choose or, is it simply that, by chance some happen to survive and many more do not (more don’t)? What about all those people who have gone their whole life and never had their house burn down, who never had to be in a robbery attempt or a tornado? Are they even MORE watched over by God than you are? This is all very illogical.

Instead of denying the obvious with dismissive answers like "God works in mysterious ways" or "it’s OK because they get to go to Heaven" people need to stop clinging to unproven religious beliefs which just don’t hold up. The Universe is a cold, logical, awesome place that is not concerned with the concerns of such creatures as ourselves (and it is beyond any of our religious beliefs) that’s WHY there is so much suffering that all living things can experience. We are here as a result of the Universe’s natural processes and are as fleeting as anything else – and yet we are part of a great system of life. It is up to us to learn and evolve and help ourselves and our planet, not some fairy tale that there is a warm, fuzzy God to make us feel special. There is no definitive proof of any religion and their are many religions because they are just man made attempts to understand our origins and we really don’t "have all the answers" as religious people like to think they do.

An earthquake, or a tornado? I prefer an earthquake, because they don’t always kill whatever comes in it’s path, like a tornado!!!
Maybe it’s because I’m from California, where earthquakes are normal! They’re not even scary. They’re not always HUGE!

Hi, I’m 21 years old and I live in Indiana and I hate it here. I am in college so I want a college where I can transfer. I just need to move to a place where people don’t know me where I can start over. I was originally looking into New York or California but I’m willing to move somewhere for a few years til I graduate college, then if I want to move there I will.

So here is a little about me:
I’m majoring in English hopefully to work in a magazine one day
I live in a small town right now and I hate it so I want someplace interesting with lots of things to do.
I have a little chihuahua so I want a good place for her to live
When I move, I will know no one so I want a place with friendly people
I can not handle huge bugs. They gross me out, especially giant cockroaches and anything that can kill me such as snakes, scorpians, and so on.
I will be about to spend up to 00 a month on everything (Includes rent, utilites, groceries, and all that) but I might be able to spend more than this if I can find a job before I move.
I plan on moving in August 2011
I want a place where I can possibly meet a potential BF. Haven’t had the best luck in Indiana seeming all the guys here are into drugs and I mean everyone (i’m not being dramatic).
I don’t like any extreme weather such as hurricanes and tornadoes. I’ve never been through a tornado so they scare me more than an earthquake!
I’m not a big fan of snow, but I can handle it with living in Indiana all my life.

So where should I look into moving? I’ve been considering Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, as well as New York and California.

btw before I move, I’m going to try to find a job before I go :)

Thanks!!!

I would have to say yes.

Just look at whats happening…

Major cyclone wipes out 10′s of thousands in Myanmar…a major earthquake wipes out 10′s of thousands in China…

Tornadoes are reaking havoc across the United States and is on track to set a record for deadly tornadoes.

You have Famine starting in many parts of the world, Australia is having the worst drought in history…

AND ALL THE WHILE… you have new reports released just hours ago saying …

"JAIPUR, India – A hospital official says at least 45 people have been killed in six bomb blasts that ripped through crowded areas of a city in western India. "

People killing each other left and right while the world is going through its worst disasters in many decades.

Its over my friends…weve officially come to end. If these disasters dont do it, the price of OIL and FOOD will set the world ablaze sooner or later.

Where are you located?

I live in New York and we had rain and a lot of wind from Hurricane Earl, we also had a few tornados and an earthquake. It has also had the hottest year on Record. In August in NY it was reported to be the rainest month ever.

What about you?

No one can predict a natural disaster or world crisis. When a hurricane or flood or a pandemic strikes a country, who is most likely to respond first? Which economic system is the best solution to handling a crisis of epic proportion?

What advantages might a socialist system have in responding to the needs of people struck by an emergency situation like the earthquake that occurred in Haiti in January, 2010?

When disasters hit an area, the cost of everything seems to go up immediately: food, water, housing, gas and so forth. Explain why this phenomenon may be a good thing, using the laws of supply and demand to explain your answer.

List your references according to APA guidelines in the space below. You are required to use at least one outside source to support your viewpoint, and this source can be the textbook.

We had a 5.1 Earthquake today, and honestly it scared the living **** out of me, Yes we have tornado’s , but we get plenty of warning from the weatherman about those. We can get in the car and easily drive away, but the earthquake we had today felt like the world was coming to a end, scared me half to death. I honestly thought a airliner crashed in my backyard.

Do they outdo earthquakes? Earthquakes can be very small, to very large. Tornadoes, on the other hand, are always destructive. how about hurricanes? i’ve never heard of a small hurricane or a small tornado. Both i guess would be very destructive. So when a hurricane or tornado hits, it’s always destruction, where if an earthquake hits, it most of the time is relatively minor. We experience hundreds, if not thousands, everyday. The big ones are rare. So what’s everyone think?
