Question about Obama as a Presidential Candidate and the Media?
The other day Obama was talking about the 10,000 people killed during the Kansas tornados. The actual number killed was less than 10. He attributed his mistake to being tired from campaigning. I have two questions:
1. Do we want a guy who makes mistakes like this when he is tired with his finger on the button? Presidents don’t get a lot of sleep (being off by 3 orders of magnitude is not a minor mistake and given the press coverage it seems like he is not very informed).
2. The Presidential campaign process is suppose to weed out people who can’t hack it. Not being able to keep facts straight when under pressure is the kind of thing the process is suppose to reveal. So where is the media reporting on this? When Bush pronounced foreign leaders name’s wrong during his first campaign, the media pointed out his lack of foreign policy experience (other’s labeled him "stupid"). So why isn’t the media asking whether Obama is up to the task or labeling him stupid?

I’m trying to figure out how 10,000 people could have been killed in a town of 1,500 people. Did the tornado suck them in? Had Bush said something like that, it would have been the lead story on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN & PBS as well as front page above the fold in almost every newspaper in the country.

Obviously, it’s media bias. I’m not even talking liberal bias, I’m just saying the media /like/ Obama. He’s interesting, good for ratings, a little controversial, a little of a metaphor for the country – they’d love to keep reporting about his race for the presidency.
Clinton got kind of the same treatement. He was a media darling – he had big hair, he could play the saxaphone, he had an endless stream of sex scandles. Early in the primary, there was no front runner. The media just up and made Clinton a front runner simply by pointing cameras at him more than the others.
Its a sort of fame factor. Paris Hilton isn’t famous because she’s beautiful (she’s freaky look’n) nor because she’s rich (lotsa people are at least as rich as she is) – she’s famous because people point cameras at her constantly.

no way! we want Ron Paul!! Check him out, the media is keeping him out of the news even after he won the c-span, abc, and msnbc polls.. He loves our freedom, and wants a small federal government, voted against the war.. Says no about going into Iran, we need this man in office!! Says no to the real ID act, says No to regulating the internet, Check out his voting record.. He has an impeccable voting record.

I am not necessarily an Obama supporter, but…
Tell me who you support and I can list at least ten gaffs he (or she) has made either on or before the campaign trail.
Then there is Bush.
President monkey in a man suit has made a career making an asshole of himself.

1. No. Any guy who starts a statement with, "And just in case you missed it…", which is a way for him to say, I am really much smarter and well informed that you, and then comes up with some crazy impossible number does not deserve to be in charge of our fate.
2. The media wants Obama to win, regardless of his lack of qualifications. Think of all the stories that will come out of it. An when you think about it, that’s all they care about. The well-being of the nation is not their concern, only coming up with stories. The news media must be salivating about the possibility of Obama as president, they are not going to point out anything that might hurt his chances, only things that will help him.
