Tornado Questions
I am looking at Mizuno volleyball shoes and am trying to decide which to get. Either the Tornado 5′s or the Lightning 6′s. Any prior knowledge or experience with either would be much appreciated. (I am not in a location where I can try on, or go look at them)
Also the Lightning is slightly lighter than the tornado’s does this make a difference for those who have tried them?

i have only worn the lighting, but I’ve been wearing them long enough to go through 3 pairs of them.
I can’t compare their performance but I can talk for quite a while about the lightning.
Pros:
Shock absorption – Landing on these shoes over and over again, i’ve never gotten bruised heels or blisters, even from day one of breaking them in.
Weight – These are much lighter than a running shoe, or any other sporting shoes i’ve ever worn for that matter
Traction – Absolutely amazing. You will be amazed at how well the soles of these shoes grab the court
Flex – Its tought to describe, but the shoe is very flexible on the sole, allowing a large portion of the sole to remain in contact with the court when making quick movements
CONS:
Durability – The sole of the sneaker is made from a VERY soft rubber which increases traction but significantly decreases the life of the shoe. I go through 1 pair every indoor season (at the end of the season they are pretty dead) (playing 3-5 days a week for 8 months).
Fit – The shoe is probably a little too wide for my foot. I like to wear my shoe very tight to eliminate heel wobble and with this shoe i often end up cutting off circulation and reloosening the shoe after my first match
Laces – I’ve never had to replace the laces but I have bought backup pairs because they begin to fray at the top grommet. I would suggest to mizuno to make the lace through-holes less abrasive.
Thats what i got for the lightning, sorry i can’t compare the two but I would expect my review on the thunder to be similar.
The mizuno thunder is like $10 more expensive so you may find some improvements. I do like this years color scheme for the thunder with black and red.

Oh definitely the tornadoes! I have worn both shoes; and I like the tornadoes better. They are lighter weight and the most advanced technology for a volleyball shoe. However, the downside is that they don’t last as long as the lightnings because of the significant weight difference.
