Lilasophbia, how can I remedy it?
(I have asked a similar question before, but I am unsatisfied with all of the answers)
I think I have lilasophobia (the fear of tornadoes and hurricanes). When ever it even gets cloudy my heart starts pumping. When it’s thundering I keep an eye outside. When there is a massive storm brewing up outside, I get tunnel vision, my heart beats, I sweat a bit, and just feel horrible. The weird thing is, most people with phobias can’t even watch video of the thing they fear. Me? I LOVE watching storm chaser videos. My god, watching a truck get stuck in a tornado intercept gets my blood pumping. I love it! However, if I am confronted with a real storm, I get terrified. I’m not young either, so my age can’t be an excuse. I live in Minnesota, and we get a lot of severe weather warnings, and watches, but I’m not aware of a tornado that has touched down near my area.
I don’t think I have any past experiences with tornadoes, so it can’t be post traumatic stress. I just don’t know what to do. I know how tornadoes form, I’ve done the research. I know all the safety precautions, and I can’t afford consoling, or the time to get together with some storm chasers. Nor can I move out of tornado alley. I wish I could install a tornado shelter, but I also can’t for money resons. Any advise to help naturally remedy my fears? Thanks!

You call yourself "Child of God"…and so you are. The best advice I can give you is "Trust in the Lord with all you heart. Lean not on you own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths"….even if a storm is coming your way. No one can take better care of you than God. I once met an old lady in Missouri who had once been in a storm and frightened by the loud lightening. She was deaf…and it was purely psychological deafness because of the fear. There was nothing wrong with her ears or ear drums. Our fears can lead us down strange paths sometimes. So "Be anxious for nothing" (Phil 4:6) God’s plan for you is bigger than your fears or your curiosities. Trust Him!

Face your fears. That usually works for me.
