Tornado Questions
we’ve got a tornado watch here and its the 1st one I remember
Last nite about 4 AM it started booming and crashing intensely and loudly but I just figured wow this is a good one (thunderstorm) and tryed to get back to sleep as best I could.
But today I find out we are under a tornado watch.
Should I be listening for something or leaving the radio on or what
When do I run for the cellar?

Lot of tornado questions today. I’ve got a tornado watch too, actually.
Watches aren’t all THAT serious, they’re just meant to indicate that there is some level of potential for tornado formation, and that you should pay attention to your local news and/or online to see if a tornado warning is issued. If you get a tornado warning, head to the cellar immediately. Other than that, just monitor the news and keep an eye out for potential warning signs of a tornado (intense hail, greenish skies, a loud train-like noise, etc.. are all signs, but you might not necessarily get any of them in advance of a tornado).
Nothing to get really worried about at this point, though.

Well, you will be able to hear the wind from the tornado inside your home. You can also identify it if any heavy objects start to move outside.

(When should you run for the cellar) When they say it is a tornado warning. A tornado watch just means the conditions are right for there to be a tornado. A tornado warning is when they have spotted a tornado or a funnel cloud.
(Sound/Characteristic for tornado) The sky turns a greenish yellow color is typically what people say as a warning for a tornado. But also in my experiences with this, the sky usually turns light gray on part of the sky but really dark on the other, and if your on the darker side, thats where the worst weather is. I don’t know exactly what it sounds like or what to watch out for, probably if you here really loud wind or loud booming sounds (like you heard).

I sleep thru all of the watches and warnings, unless the wind is so loud it wakes me up…then i take shelter
I have slept thru a tornado before

put on the weather channel or tune in to the radio. tornado watches don’t always turn into tornado warnings, but still, take a few precautions. Keep an eye on the sky. if something looks like its rotating, check out the weather reports, and if you’re under a tornado watch and you see something rotating, seek shelter or make sure you’re able to get to a shelter fast if prompted by authorities–a tornado warning could follow. If the radio or a tv weather station issues a tornado warning, meaning rotation has been spotted in your area or a tornado has touched down in your area, seek shelter immediately. I don’t know how much of a tornado you’d be able to hear before it was practically on top of you.

Wind and a train sound are the main sounds during a tornado.

there will be a HUGE cloud that rotates, that is called a supercell and ususally forms tornadoes. Also, the sky will turn green due to hail forming in the updrafts of the supercell
