Tornado Questions
In a recent thunderstorm, my town took matters into it’s own hands and issued its own tornado warning. (Which could only legally extend to city limits). This was because a police officer reported a funnel(which was only scud). They sounded the sirens and everyone took cover, only for the warning to be taken back minutes later. Now many people are mad at the town. Is this kind of thing allowed?

Yes, the local emergency officials can issue any type of warning with orders for their local residents to take action. However, in doing so, it can open up some liability issues. The one question they may ask would be how qualify was that police officer in making this judgment call? Has he had the proper amount of training? I don’t think that type of a judgment call would cause an uproar because the officers action showed concerned for the safety of the folks he was sworn to protect.
However, the officer or local emergency official can not cancel a warning that is currently in effect for their community if the warning was put out by the NWS.

Yes. the town should be happy that the emergency personnel are so solicitous of the residents. someday, that system will save lives.

technically only the National weather service that covers ur county can issue a tornado warning I don’t think ur town can.
