Move some place where you have a deep basement. With a bit of work and $ you can build (or have built) an area in the basement that is a bit more re-enforced. But also take some of the other advice that others have posted here. Good luck

Though tornadoes can strike in an instant, there are precautions and preventative measures that people can take to increase the chances of surviving a tornado. Authorities such as the Storm Prediction Center advise having a tornado plan. When a tornado warning is issued, going to a basement or an interior first-floor room of a sturdy building greatly increases chances of survival. In tornado-prone areas, many buildings have storm cellars on the property. These underground refuges have saved thousands of lives.
Some countries have meteorological agencies which distribute tornado forecasts and increase levels of alert of a possible tornado (such as tornado watches and warnings in the United States and Canada). Weather radios provide an alarm when a severe weather advisory is issued for the local area, though these are mainly available only in the United States.
Unless the tornado is far away and highly visible, meteorologists advise that drivers park their vehicles far to the side of the road (so as not to block emergency traffic), and find a sturdy shelter. If no sturdy shelter is nearby, getting low in a ditch is the next best option. Highway overpasses are extremely bad shelter during tornadoes.

It’s always best to face your fears. I had a fear of a few things, the dark, claustrophobia(tight places), and deep water. I took up scuba diving and in time, I’d say 6 months maybe, I’m not exactly sure. My fears just disappeared. Maybe take a vacation to Oklahoma, and do some research on tornadoes. Or hang out with storm chasers. Believe me it was worth the effort for me!

To be honest it is a good fear to have, just don’t watch the movie tornado.
But seriously you have to slowly expose yourself to them. Talk about them, then upgrade to pictures, then movies, skip the one about seeing them in real life.

Is this fear born of the fact that you have been through a tornado? If so . . . you could have post traumatic syndrome. Especially since it is so severe in you. For instance people in California where Earthquakes are very prevalent, don’t have fear that the big one is going to hit unless they lived through a very serious one and the memory is relived. They have several antidepressants on the market that might be helpfull like efferxor or paxil or even counseling. Good luck!

Sounds like a reasonable fear to me. I live in Tornado Alley and they are very scary.
If you really want to get rid of the fear there is a new book that takes you step by step on how to get rid of a fear. It is When Panic Attacks: The New, Drug-Free Anxiety Therapy That Can Change Your Life by David Burns, MD.
Good luck!

Unless you live in tornado alley I wouldn’t be too afraid. I live in Oklahoma and of course we have them every year but I’ve never experienced anything untoward from one myself. When I first moved here when I was 12 I was pretty much terrified of them but over the first couple of seasons I learned to have respect for them w/out too much fear. If you are living in tornado alley then your local weathermen probably have some of the best equipment to predict them, just pay attention to them they are now predicting at what time they will hit a certain street intersection. Study up on them and learn as much about them and that will probably cause the fear to lessen.
