Going to ditch is the very last option one has. One can almost always find a safer place to go than a ditch. If one does have to go to a ditch, it wouldn’t be difficult to keep your face out of the water to avoid drowning.

It doesn’t always have to rain when a tornado is near. Some low precipitation super-cell storms contain little to no rain at all. But you really can’t drown if you are in a ditch.. you could keep your head up a little bit, and make sure that you have your hands over your head still? But laying in a ditch, like the first answerer said, is a last resort to being safe, in which you are more than likely to be in a building or somewhere you can take shelter during that kind of situation.

Sometimes it rains when a tornado comes, but not usually with strong ones. Besides, you don’t have to go into shelter or ditch if your under a watch. A watch only means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to spawn, and that you need to have a close watch on the weather until it passes or until the watch expires. If you were under a warning, then you need to seek shelter in an underground tornado shelter or even your bathroom. ( If it’s in the middle of your house… ) A ditch is only a last resort. Besides, if it were a rain- wrapped tornado it would be raining hard. So, I have to say no you won’t drown if you take the right precautions and have a rational fear. In this case drowning in a ditch is the least of your concerns in the middle of a tornado.
Hope I helped! : 3

They are talking about going into a ditch if it is not water filled, and if there are not going to be very intense rains, Another thing to do is to look for an overpass, and to go underneath there if there is a ditch or something, but do not go to a ditch that has the probability of filling up.
