I can't live with this fear anymore… help?
Lilasophobia… the fear of tornadoes and hurricanes. It started raining like 5 minutes ago. That’s all, just a little rain. I’m nervous. I have tried everything to get rid of this fear. I learned how they form, I know how to be safe in a tornado, I’ve seen videos of tornadoes, I’ve try ed asking for help from a higher power. Nothing is working. I can’t just conquer my fear. I don’t have the time or money to chase a tornado, nor to obtain professional help. I have always been like this, I have no idea where the fear came from. I can’t live like this anymore. Just a few drops of rain has me shaking in fear. I can’t move… nothing. What the hell can I do? Please I can’t live like this anymore!!!

My little sister is afraid of tornadoes to.. What she does is take her iPod and listens to some music.. It calms her down a lot. You should do this on the lowest level of your house away from windows. I would so love to trade place with you I love tornadoes but they don’t really have that much where I live. Anyway if that doesn’t work you should go see a psychiatrist.

Try hypnosis, perhaps even try self-hypnosis. Look at your local library for books or articles on self-hypnosis, otherwise look into how much it will cost for a one-off hypnosis session with a professional.
Good luck

Just about EVERY community has a Mental Health Agency where they prorate the fee for therapy! It would be worth skipping a MEAL a day, if that’s what it took to get yourself some help! A lot of us have physical conditions–mine is anxiety disorder, and I take a daily inexpensive med each day. It’s changed my life! I’ve learned to live WITH it instead in spite of it. And have a GOOD Life and family!

There are two possible scenarios, I can think of, that may help you conquer Your phobia;
By asking the’ Higher Power" to help You ,You are but, setting Your self up to become disappointed. It is not going to work!
#1 advise to You; Read and learn about the nature of these and other natural phenomena, such as volcanic eruption, tsunami es,, earth quakes, meteorites,hails,, and do not get EMOTIONALLY involved, but rather scientifically try to gain some understanding, knowledge about them. It will not hurt You, You are not going to have panic attacks. More over, the web site and libraries are FREE, cost You nothing, but time to do Your home work!!!
#2 advise; If and when it all fails, seek out a reputable hypnotist who maybe able to shed some light of Your condition by getting into regions of Your brain , where You can not get to. In Your pass life You or some one else might have been hit by lightening and subconsciously You may carried those memories with You into this life, and that may well be the source of Your fret .? This may cost You a couple of bucks, but how much is it worth to You, to feel better?

Systematic desensitization or flooding.

I can think of a couple of things that might help.
How good is your early warning? For example, I have online Weather Channel running whenever my computer is on. It gives warnings about things like flash floods. It uses a loud alarm to announce a warning. It shows a map with graphics that show doppler radar findings from a weather station. These findings show areas of rain and thunder showers. The service also gives weather predictions for the next few days.
I can see that you know something about exposure therapy, which is the method used most often by psychologists for phobias. There’s a different kind of exposure therapy that’s aimed at desensitizing a person to the fear itself. People sometimes overcome panic disorder with interoceptive exposure. This is a self-help method, although getting a doctor’s advice before trying it is necessary. The idea is for the person to deliberately produce panic symptoms so as to become used to them and not afraid. A treatment called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, one of the therapies that draws from Asian mindfulness and acceptance traditions, is used for helping people who have extreme emotional problems, like persistent suicidal urges or rage. The idea of ACT is very simple: the person becomes desensitized to the emotion by self-observation, being like somebody in an audience watching as the event plays itself out. It’s just a matter of studying one’s own irrational thoughts as they occur.
An official British health agency says that the book Living with Fear by Isaac Marks, which has been tested clinically, is recommended as one of the treatments for phobia. You might ask a psychologist if he or she could give you some advice about self help. Remember, you don’t sign any contracts, and you can stop seeing the professional after one session.
One place to go for help is the local United Way. Call 211. Therapy could be a lot less expensive than you think.
