If one does get issued for your area, the best place to go is in an interior room, bathroom or closet on the lowest floor, away from windows. A tornados most dangerous characteristic is the flying debris around it so you want to protect yourself from this the best you can. The central U.S s the area with the most though. But, every state in the U.S has had at least one tornado, including California. And it will happen again in the future, like now. Boarding up the windows in a tornado won't be worth it. If it is a considerably strong tornadoes, debris can move at speeds over 100 mph. The tornado winds themselves can reach to over 200 mph! If you don't have a basement, a bathroom is the next safest place. A closet is the 3rd best choice. Hide in the bathtub, and pull a mattress over you so you don't get hit by debris.
