Has anyone here attended the Iowa Writers’ Workshop?

Tornado Questions
My biggest apprehension about applying is the setting (ie, I’ve never lived in a town that small or, for that matter, tornado country). Not a far second on the apprehension list is the fact that it sounds like it might be a bit snobby. Literary nose-thumbing is okay, but stepping on the opportunity for experimentation is not.
How about the University of California Irvine? Anyone getting their MFA there?

Unfortunately I think most graduates of IWW are too busy writing novels and getting famous to hang around on Y!A.
As far as the tornado issue, it’s really a matter of "pick your poison" because many places have some kind of downside, even UC Irvine.
If you think you won’t like it In Iowa City, then by all means look elsewhere. Personally I think it’s a fine place to get an education. Many [most?] of those who go to IWW are from somewhere else so you’ll probably fit right in.
