Has anyone heard people living in the flooded areas in Iowa complaining about the government's lack of help?

Tornado Pictures Video
During Katrina, we were bombarded daily by videos of victims blaming the federal government for not helping, yet, I’ve not heard that from these people, nor the people in Nebraska where the tornado hit, or the people of Greensburg, Kansas, where a tornado removed half the town from the map.
Truth seeker, If Bush had gone immediatley to N.O., those on the left would have accused him of using it for a photo op.
It was 3 days before Bush went to Greensburg. Tornado hit May 4, 2007, Bush visited May 7.

These are hard working middle Americans.
They can take care of themselves.
On the other hand; the governor of Louisiana refused to allow the National Guard to start preparations until the city of New Orleans was under water (she was thrown out and replaced with a Republican). The brilliant mayor of the city parked the busses intended to evacuate the residents in a section of highway that was under water.
That’s the difference – leadership, and taking responsibility for one’s self and community.

Since Brownie left, I guess FEMA has gotten better

most of the katrina ‘victims’ were black……
correlation to the whining? maybe.

Bush was in Greesnburg, virtually the next day. So was Federal help. It took five days for Bush to respond to Katrina.

thats cause those people dont live off government cheese. they are hard working americans that are willing to help each other out without the governments help. the people of new orleans have been getting handouts their entire lifes and dont know how to get ahead. god bless the people of the midwest.
if we vote for obama there will be even more people looking for a government handout.

Ummm, that might be because the local government has been and is responding quickly. You can’t compare New Orleans with Iowa – 2 different disasters.
Princess Buffy on February 24, 2010 at 11:38 pm
nope, they are taking care of the situation on their own, they are pulling together and working hard to help each other
dillybar on February 24, 2010 at 11:38 pm
correct first we take care of ourselves then we have all the politicians coming in with promises of billions of dollars because this is an election year. Also have you noticed all the offer for aid coming in from other countries like the USA does during foreign disasters

NOPE. I lived in the Minnesota area when everything flooded there in the 80’s (for those who don’t remember, several towns disappeared from the map forever). I lived through horrendous winters, tornadoes. No complaining from those people..

No, you will not either. These people are not the type that look for government handouts. NO, and LA in general are bursting at the seams with welfare people who cannot survive without them.

They respond better when white people need help.

Different mind sets and better elected officials. Heck even the boy scout tragedy is being portrayed by the courageous acts and the self reliant spirit of the mid westerns, very similar to those in Texas, Mississippi and Florida during their disasters. Simple fact is Louisiana is a cesspool of corruption, greed and entitlement.

nope…
how long has it been since Katrina and they are still complaining and their mayor will never take responsibility…
always nosnod

No and you won’t hear it. Actually New Orleans is the only city who has ever made a fuss like it did and claimed all the media and aid! But they had to cover up the incompetent local government and being as they were democrats they only had to focus on Bush to do it. Popular Mechanics in their investigation proved who the real crooks were!

Aw, a lot of the people that responded to this question are really nice.
I live in Iowa and my town was almost completely underwater. It’s gone down a lot, but there are so many homes that were destroyed.
I guess we do take care of ourselves for the most part.. I have heard people complain a little bit about how there’s really nothing the government will do for us even though we are in a state of emergency.. but those people just get over it and go help their neighbors.. ya know?
The majority of Iowans focus more on the good than the bad. Yeah, we’re all flooded and without running water.. but there have only been a few deaths.
Especially in my area.. we’re very fortunate that we only had flooding.. some towns had tornadoes that destroyed the entire town. There’s always someone that’s less fortunate.. so people should try to stay positive.
We’re just all farmers.. we don’t need help outside our families and friends.. haha.
It would be nice though.

The Federal government, contrary to popular belief can’t just come in and say we’re taking over. The local and city governments have to make that request and have to expend every measure first. Only then can the fed declare a state of emergency.

No, people in Iowa are self-sufficient.
