Flooding this year?
Do you live near it? How has it affected you personally?
I live in one of the towns in Iowa experiencing moderate flooding. Two roads in and out of town are closed. The heavy rain has really affected things at my house because our driveway floods and that means getting up when I hear rain. Also, our backyard is saturated, and we have a septic field. It’s meant using the plumbing as little as possible. Showering and flushing is fine, but any more than that isn’t!
Here’s a picture of my backyard. It’s normally dry with NO water.

Tonight we’re supposed to get even more rain and possible tornadoes. How’s the weather in your town?
My hometown is Des Moines, and the flooding there is supposed to be just as bad, if not worse as 1993, when we lost water for 12 days. Luckily this time the water plant is nowhere near being flooded because they overbuilt the levees. A lot of cities around Central Iowa are getting hit hard, and for me what’s sad is in New Hartford, they were devastated by an F5 tornado two weeks ago, and now they’re pretty much under water. I feel bad for those folks!

I live in Mason City, Iowa.. we flooded pretty badly.
We did get our running water back today.. but it’s only for flushing the toilet and showering.. it’s not safe to drink yet.
I’m very fortunate.. I’ve just got water in my basement, which isn’t a nice finished basement, so it’s not too upsetting.
The only bad thing is the porta-potties that we’re forced to use.. and that I have to drive 30+ minutes to take a shower.
This definitely sucks! I hear we’re getting more storms tonight.. go figure. We’ve had severe thunderstorms every night since last Saturday. I saw a massive tornado from my living room window on Tuesday too.. that was scary! And it was 10 miles away from me.. I couldn’t imagine it being any closer.. I’d probably crap my pants.
Good luck to you and your family.. stay safe!

It flooded where I live in March. There was like 18 inches of rain. The whole town was closed. Streets were washed out, housed/cars were ruined, people were evacuated.

Sorry to hear that, we are getting rain Friday, hopefully not enough to cause flooding. Hope everything turns out good for you

Wow, that’s pretty bad. I live in the mountains in North Carolina, so even though it rains a lot sometimes here, we don’t really have a lot of flash floods and even when we do it doesn’t come near my house. Thinking about it, we’re pretty lucky. We don’t have a lot of inclement weather at all. No tornadoes, very few major hurricanes, no earthquakes. All that we have to worry about are crazy old people from Florida and the Republicans.

We are a little moist..not like you.. However i live 70 miles from Wisconsin Dells..I read in the paper about the dam washed out.It was foolish of these people to have that much water held back but such a small amount of Ground. Too many people live where water goes..never did like a low soggy land..too much mildew

WOW,what a beautiful backyard you have but man, all that water running down it. I feel for you as I have been through 3 floods in northern CA., the first one was the worst in 1986, as the whole town was flooded, we were stuck in the woods for almost a week as the road was blocked, but at least our house was high and dry, and I had plenty of firewood to keep us warm and keep the house dry inside. I moved to Hawaii in 2001, and where we live we are up high on a hill, very safe from flooding if we get heavy rains, but our weather has been very dry and now I worry about brush fires. Well, good luck to you guys, and I hope you don’t get any tornadoes.Whatever you do, don’t drive through any fast moving water going across the road because you will go with it. Stay home, and be safe.
