The thing is many people in California and other places do not bother to buy tornado insurance making it more expensive for folks in Midwest. Lets make tornado insurance mandatory and this will increase the pool and everyone will be happy. I promise that rates will drop by 3000%

Sailors are very superstitious people and always have been. This is because of the random and unpredictable oceans they travel on. When people live in situations where they could be alive and carefree one minute but dead the next, they tend to believe in wacky stuff and have wacky customs and rituals. If i go buy a sheet of plywood or OSB, and get it cut to fit the size of my tub, and attach handles w/ screws very securely on the side of the wood that we would facing us in the bathtub, so i could be pulling down on the wood topper if the tub went flying or debris falling on the tub………is this a good idea…it would just be a piece of wood otherwse and very easy to slide behind the door or somewhere accesible so i could store it away easily

I’ve heard a couple of reasons and wondered if they were true.

In many houses in Houston area, water rose up THROUGH the floor and came out through the grout during hurricane Ike. Why is this? Is it because the ground is saturated with water and the low or high pressure created by the storm pushes or sucks the water up? I can’t explain it.

We bought our first home last summer and it’s a one story slab with no basement. It’s also only about 1,200 square feet…2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and there really isn’t a room or usable space in the middle of the house with no windows that we could utilize during a tornado warning. I guess there is a closet, but it’s full of shelves and there wouldn’t be enough room for myself, my husband, our 18 month old and our pets. We live in Kansas, which is right along "tornado alley" and we experience several tornado warnings every season, although I’ve only seen 1 tornado in person after living here my whole life. But the deadly storms in the south have lit a fire under me and I want to establish some sort of plan like NOW but I don’t know what I could do or where we could go. It’s generally discouraged to travel during a tornado warning, but do you think in our case it would be a bad idea to find a business or building of some kind near us (there are several I have in mind that are mere blocks away from our house) to go to?

Ok remember all the tornadoes we just had about a month ago? Well about 2 days before this I had a dream I was in my mom’s car and there was a tornado I looked out the window and there were about 7 tornadoes. There is no reason for a tornado to wipe out a town in an area where tornadoes are common occurrences. If you get a flood once every 50 years or a tornado once every 50 years why dont they build on stilts (in a flood plane) or bomb shelter style (for tornadoes) and let the kids have a bigger yard to play in?

I mean, wow… I have seen dozens of tornado videos, NOTHING … compares to this. The video took you with these people trying to ride out the tornado as it passed right over top of them from beginning to end, almost not making it… it got 1.5 million views in a little over 1 day. I honestly felt like I was there… it was horrifying. Also gave me a better understanding of how fast everything can be taken away from you. The video is really scrambled and dark, but the sound is really…just…intense. I think the guy deserves the views. Warning: it is really sad and disturbing. To all those effected, you are in my thoughts… I am sorry for your losses and I hope things get better.
