Where does the gulf oil go when a hurricane passes through?
With hurricane season upon us, news reports have explained what BP plans to do if a hurricane hits the gulf area by evacuating the area. However, no one has explained what happens to the oil in the gulf itself when a hurricane passes through. Specifically, would the hurricane suck up the oil into it’s twister and potentially bring it further inland than the already oil-soaked beaches?
have you ever been in a tornado?
tell your story! was it scary? where did you take cover? did anything get destroyed? here is a few things i went through with tornadoes:
1st tornado: i lived in Oklahoma and we were all at my grandma’s house and it took out their sattalite and it took my trampoline and threwit a mile away into my papa’s pasture and when we found it the next day it was folded up in the shape of a horshoe!
2nd tornado: it was in Oklahoma too. me,my great grandmother and my cousin Hannah were in the living room and we started to hear this really loud sound that Hannah thought it was a fire truck but my granny said thats a tornado siren (which we had never heard before) so right then my aunt (hannah’s mom) pulled in and ran inside so we all took cover in the hall. it was scary but it didn’t come near the house thank the Lord!
3rd tornado: we were at our house in TN and it was the February 5th 2008 tornadoes (that was national news) and i had just come back from pottery class and we got home (we had actually gotton a weather radio that day) and it was going off so me and my brother Caleb went in there to see what it was and it said tornado warning for our county and others around us. so we quickly started throwing things out of the closet(our take cover spot) and got blankets and a bean bag and other neccessary things to put in there. my mom stayed in the living room while me and my brother and my dog got took cover. she watched the news and stuff. at about 1:00 am it the storm hit but the tornado steered clear of our neighborhood (praise God!) of course some of the counties around us were wrecked, we were safe although it was a very scary night!
4th tornado: that was actually last week. i was at gymnastics with my brother and there was a lot of lightning and thunder and all they told us is if there is a tornado warning then we will take cover under the trampolines but for now we will just continue practicing. so we did! and apparently (it was dark out then) we never thought it cam near us…but it did. the next morning the car wash was roofless and so were several buildings. even the batting cage at my brothers schoolwas destroyed. but yet again we were safe:)
anyone have any interesting stories? please share them!
Is conservative columnist George Will correct, that indeed we are experiencing the gas prices we deserve?
Rising in the Senate on May 13, Chuck Schumer, the New York Democrat, explained: "I rise to discuss rising energy prices." The president was heading to Saudi Arabia to seek an increase in its oil production, and Schumer’s gorge was rising.
Saudi Arabia, he said, "holds the key to reducing gasoline prices at home in the short term." Therefore arms sales to that kingdom should be blocked unless it "increases its oil production by one million barrels per day," which would cause the price of gasoline to fall "50 cents a gallon almost immediately."
Can a senator, with so many things on his mind, know so precisely how the price of gasoline would respond to that increase in the oil supply? Schumer does know that if you increase the supply of something, the price of it probably will fall. That is why he and 96 other senators recently voted to increase the supply of oil on the market by stopping the flow of oil into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which protects against major physical One million barrels is what might today be flowing from ANWR if in 1995 President Bill Clinton had not vetoed legislation to permit drilling there. One million barrels produce 27 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel. Seventy-two of today’s senators — including Schumer, of course, and 38 other Democrats, including Barack Obama, and 33 Republicans, including John McCain — have voted to keep ANWR’s estimated 10.4 billion barrels of oil off the market.
So Schumer, according to Schumer, is complicit in taking away from every American who buys 20 gallons of gasoline. "Democracy," said H.L. Mencken, "is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard." The common people of New York want Schumer to be their senator, so they should pipe down about gasoline prices, which are a predictable consequence of their political choice.
Also disqualified from complaining are all voters who sent to Washington senators and representatives who have voted to keep ANWR’s oil in the ground and who voted to put 85 percent of America’s offshore territory off-limits to drilling. The U.S. Minerals Management Service says that restricted area contains perhaps 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas — 10 times as much oil and 20 times as much natural gas as Americans use in a year.
Drilling is underway 60 miles off Florida. The drilling is being done by China, in cooperation with Cuba, which is drilling closer to South Florida than U.S. companies are.
ANWR is larger than the combined areas of five states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware), and drilling along its coastal plain would be confined to a space one-sixth the size of Washington’s Dulles airport. Offshore? Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed or damaged hundreds of drilling rigs without causing a large spill. There has not been a significant spill from an offshore U.S. well since 1969. Of the more than 7 billion barrels of oil pumped offshore in the past 25 years, 0.001 percent — that is one-thousandth of 1 percent — has been spilled. Louisiana has more than 3,200 rigs offshore — and a thriving commercial fishing industry.
In his book "Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of ‘Energy Independence,’ " Robert Bryce says Brazil’s energy success has little to do with its much-discussed ethanol production and much to do with its increased oil production, the vast majority of which comes from off Brazil’s shore. Investor’s Business Daily reports that Brazil, "which recently made a major oil discovery almost in sight of Rio’s beaches," has leased most of the world’s deep-sea drilling rigs.
In September 2006, two U.S. companies announced that their Jack No. 2 well, in the Gulf 270 miles southwest of New Orleans, had tapped a field with perhaps 15 billion barrels of oil, which would increase America’s proven reserves by 50 percent. Just probing four miles below the Gulf’s floor costs 0 million. Congress’s response to such expenditures is to propose increasing the oil companies’ tax burdens.
America says to foreign producers: We prefer not to pump our oil, so please pump more of yours, thereby lowering its value, for our benefit. Let it not be said that America has no energy policy.
Is kind of thing allowed?
In a recent thunderstorm, my town took matters into it’s own hands and issued its own tornado warning. (Which could only legally extend to city limits). This was because a police officer reported a funnel(which was only scud). They sounded the sirens and everyone took cover, only for the warning to be taken back minutes later. Now many people are mad at the town. Is this kind of thing allowed?
This is on Severe Weather?
Hey! Me and my friend Kaitlyn are working on an article on Severe Weather for the newspaper. We want some personal opinions on it. So here goes.
1. Has anybody has had personal experiences with severe weather? The article is on Tornadoes, Thunderstorms and Hurricanes.
2. Does anybody have any pictures of severe weather that you took?
3. What was the severity of the weather you experienced? For example, if you wanted to tell about experiencing a tornado. We need to know the classification (F1, F2, F3 and so on.)
If you have any experience with severe weather, please give your story. Everything, and anything is helpful. Thanks.
Have a wonderful day.

Why are so people naive about tornadoes in Mass?
June 9, 1953 a F4 tornado hit Worcester County.. since we’ve had a few minor tornadoes…one hitting a town away from where I grew up in 1989.
So if an F4 tornado hit here before WHAT makes people think it won’t happen again? Isn’t that a bit naive?
well sure it was rare… but it happened all the same. and I remember the day of the 1989 tornado..I was at school still and the sky was all green and dark.. it was scary stuff.

Seems to me have had round after round of severe storms these past couple days. the tornado sirens sounded twice on thursday, we had thunderstorm warnings today, and now it looks like more nasty weather headed for us. Im wondering if tornadoes are a threat.
Why do I have tornado dreams?
I live in North Texas but there hasn’t been any tornadoes in a while. I been having these dreams for over a year with at least 4 to 6 times a month. Its really weird. I havent had any experiences with tornadoes. Never even seen one.
Why is there not greater public interest in the cause behind the drop in gas prices?
Seriously, it should be common knowledge amongst the moderately well-informed populous as to why there’s an arbitrary fluctuation in gas prices — ESPECIALLY that (to me) they appear to have "magically" dropped when America needs it most.
Well — I got news for you gas co.s…we ALWAYS need it, okay?
And spare me the platitudes of a "supply & demand" lesson in any answers to this question, please (or hurricanes, or the recession — none of that’s changed enough to justify this drop).
I want to find out if there’s someone out there who ACTUALLY knows why "the powers that be" are able to knock three dollars off the price right now, and not back in the summer…or always, for that matter!
PS: This guy, "Headtater" (4 answers down) is the prototype for what I’m talking about.
Of course I’m happy gas prices are lower! I’m trying to ascertain the cause behind the drop so we can KEEP it that way…brainiac.
Some people…all opinion, no solution.

PXCW' s Seventh Show Easy Ten Points?
A video package of last week is shown. Batista beat Shawn Micheals in what was called a great match. Randy Orton then came down and then punted Batista. This week Randy will be in action against The Undertaker in a Champion vs. Champion match. Will Randy be able to keep the momentum going into Final Countdown?
Event 1: Triple H is in the middle of the ring. He gets a mike then starts to talk. He says this Sunday at Final Countdown I have a match with what people call the greatest legend in this sport Sting. He continues by saying, Sting I have a great deal of respect for you but I don’t like you. I’ve been beaten by you for too many times and this Sunday not only will I beat you but I will retire you too. Sting your career is a sham and come this Sunday I will be the one known as the person who ended the career of the worst legend ever. Triple says I’m going to show you people a video package of his useless career right now. The video package shows s the attack on Sting last week by Triple. Oops I showed the wrong one triple says. The lights go out and Stings music hits. The lights come back on but it’s still Triple in the ring. You fans are so gullible you actually thought he’d be here tonight. After the beating I gave him last week I’m even surprised if he makes it this Sunday. Sunday will be the last night you will ever see Sting so you better watch the PPV. After I beat Sting I will be one step closer to the PXCW World Championship. Triples music hits and he leaves.
Event 2: Mickie James vs. Awesome Kong in a #1 contenders match for the Women’s Title
After the match Beth Phoenix comes out and says this Sunday at Final Countdown the match will be a Street Fight. Beth stares down the winner and walks off.
Event 3: Jay Lethal is shown backstage. The undertaker walks up to him and says look kid I know you won that briefcase but u will never win my title. I can’t be beat and this Sunday will be no different whoever this mystery opponent is. Jay says look undertaker your one hell of a man. But when my time comes I will be the better man. I will beat you or whoever has the title and no one will see it coming. Undertaker says I think you have a match next with Mark Henry. Good luck you will need it. Jay says hope you do well against Randy.
Event 4: Jay Lethal vs. Mark Henry
Event 5: The Tag Champs Christian and Aj Styles are shown in the locker room. Christian says last week we almost lost our titles. This Sunday we don’t have opponents so next we will have tag team # 1 contenders match. Whoever wins will have to fight us in a Tornado Tag Match this Sunday.
Event 6: #1 Contenders Elimination Match for the Tag Team Titles: The Hardyz vs. Team 3D. vs. The Team Of Evan Bourne and Edge vs. The team of Kane and Cm Punk vs. LAX
Event 7: Ryhno comes out and gets a mike. He says he wants an opponent this Sunday and he doesn’t care who it is. Ryhno knows there’s at least one person in the back that’s not scared of him. Out comes Chris Jericho. Jericho says Ryhno will you please shut the hell up. These people don’t care about you and what you want. These fans are idiots who don’t know what they want. These people want to see me win and win. Ryhno interrupts him and says when was the last time you won a match. Chris says wait a minute the only reason I haven’t won yet is because we have a stupid general manager who won’t give me a match. Ryhno says excuses Chris won’t get you anywhere. I have an idea Chris. This Sunday I don’t have a match and you don’t either. So I say we both face each other in an Extreme Rules match so I can shut your mouth and you up for good. Chris says I accept.
Event 8: Santino is interviewing Randy Orton. He asks Randy how do you feel about being put in a champion vs. champion match. Randy says how do u think I feel Santino. I have to face the Undertaker six days before my championship match with Batista. But it doesn’t matter. I have beaten the best and come Sunday it will be no different. Batista is in a world of trouble this Sunday and he only felt a little pain compared to what I’m going to do to him this Sunday. Randy walks off.
Event 9: Main Event: Randy Orton (PXCW World Champion) vs. The Undertaker (PXCW Television Champion) in a Champion vs. Champion Match.
After the match Batista comes out and starts to beat down on Randy Orton. Orton gets up and tries to go for a punt. Batista dodges it and hits Randy with a spear. Batista grabs the World Championship and poses with it. This ends the show.
Matches for this Sunday at Final Countdown
PXCW World Championship Match: Randy Orton vs. Batista
PXCW Television Title Match: The undertaker vs. a Mystery Opponent
PXCW Tag Team Title Tornado Tag Match: Christian and AJ Styles vs. the winners of tonight’s tag team #1 contender’s match
PXCW Women’s Title Street Fight Match: Beth Phoenix vs. the winner of tonight’s women’s #1 contenders match
World Championship Opportunity vs. Retirement Match: Triple H vs. Sting.
Please choose the winners of each match
Why is Bush cutting off the supply of oil? ?
Doesn’t he know that we can’t afford gas already?
More than 75 percent of Gulf oil cut off for storm
Saturday August 30, 3:43 pm ET
By Alan Sayre, AP Business Writer
More than 75 percent of Gulf oil cut off as energy companies evacuate because of Gustav
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — More than three-quarters of the Gulf of Mexico’s offshore oil production had been cut off Saturday as energy companies evacuated petroleum platforms in the face of Hurricane Gustav.
The federal Minerals Management Service, which manages offshore leases, said 76.8 percent of the Gulf’s daily oil production of 1.3 million barrels, or 998,000, had been stopped. The platform shutdowns also cut off 37 percent of the Gulf’s daily production of 7.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas, or 2.75 billion cubic feet.
The MMS said 223 fixed production platforms had been shut down and evacuated, along with 45 drilling rigs, which are mobile and explore for petroleum. The agency said 717 staffed production platforms and 121 drilling rigs are currently operating in the Gulf.
About 35,000 people work in the Gulf, staffing offshore rigs and production facilities, among other tasks, according to the MMS.
Forecasters said Hurricane Gustav could reach the U.S. Gulf Coast early Tuesday, and stands to cross many petroleum areas of the Gulf that took damage from Katrina and Rita about three years ago. Those storms destroyed 115 of the Gulf’s 4,000 oil and gas platforms, damaged 52 others and triggered petroleum price spikes.
The Gulf produces roughly 25 percent of the nation’s oil and 15 percent of its natural gas.

Is the Universe so beautiful and complex that a god must have designed it?
The idea that the universe could have happened by accident is the same as saying a tornado can go through a junkyard and put together an F-16 airplane. It just is simply impossible and everybody with a brain in his head KNOWS it. So atheists, answer my question, do not avoid my statements by saying "Your too dumb to understand the creation of the universe"
tornadoes are terrifying?
ever since i was 12 or 13, I have been terrified of tornadoes or any kind of severe thunderstorm. I am always checking the weather when i see the sky getting dark and i freak out so much, i keep thinking i’m having a heart attack… and it’s even worse because my parents are gone for almost 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. we have a small ( and in my opinion, an unsturdy) house in the suburbs and i have no plan for when a tornado does hit. Any ideas on where we could go for shelter?
What the heck is wrong with me?
So a couple of weeks ago I drew a picture of a beach, but it felt like I was just watching someone draw it.and plus I’m not too artistic and this looked like semi proffesional. But then last night I had dreamed that there was a sea monster in the ocean and the beach that I was at was the same one I drew. Then just now I drew this picture of a little girl in a night gown floating in the middle of a tornado. And the tornado was going down this road in the middle of this desert. Please someone explain why I keep drawing these pictures and having these dreams and please no sarcastic answers or sly comment I would really like some helpful answers please.
