…Financially, since the event.

How well did the building, car, shelter you were in hold up?

Was it fun-exciting or scary-exciting?

With this recent outbreak of storms, producing strong winds, lighting and tornados coming into the Eastern US and South.

It got me thinking about my pets and their safety especially when we aren’t home.

In our state it seems our worst storms come in Fall, Winter, and Early Spring. That is when we get the most tornadoes (the most dangerous ones seem to hit in the Winter and usually at night), lighting, flooding, and hail.

So when our pets are going to be home alone and they are predicting bad storms what precautions should we take.

And what precautions should we take in general to keep our family (including our pets) safe no matter if we are here for the storm or not?

For example: We live in a second story apartment. So we have no basement, no storm room. The safest room in our apartment is our bathroom.

During the fall/winter season especially if they are calling for strong storms we crate our dogs and have them in our safe area, regardless if anything is going on at the time we leave.

We never leave their crates near a window, especially the all metal ones due to severe lighting, windows breaking due to wind (those metal crates like my larger dog uses don’t offer much protection. The pet taxis (like my smaller dog uses )offer a bit more though.

We also always make sure that in the case of a storm disaster we always have a plan. Whoever is closest if we aren’t home will try to get to the dogs, but we also have a friend or relative on standby that can always get to them quicker. We have a meeting point set up if our place has been hit, hopefully we retriever our dogs or we are with our dogs and we take them, load them up and head to the meeting point to meet the rest of the family.

What is your Storm Safety Advice and disaster plan?

I don’t know this dog. I got these pictures in an email someone send my mom, talking about animals that survived a tornado. In any case, the dog looked so sweet and wonderful. I wanted to know if anyone would be willing to take a shot at guessing what kind of breed he/she is?

Thanks in advance :J

Hey! I live in Oklahoma, and in Oklahoma, we have A LOT of tornadoes. So i was talking to all my friends, and we’re going to do an experiment. the experiment is, if a person puts a whole mess of gasoline in front of a tornado trail, and lights the gasoline on fire….will it be a flaming tornado? and is this a good idea since we’re only 17, because either way, me and the boys will still do it; no matter what you guys say. Because there is nothing to do in this small town.

There is an earthquake, 5 F5 tornadoes, a hurricane, a plasma burst, a meteor, a lightning storm, and a blizzard all heading your way.

Where should you be? What equipment should you have? What should you be doing?

OVER THE YEARS I WAS WONDERING WHY TORNADOES HIT AMERICAN STATES EVERY YEAR AND AMERICAN 300,000,000 PEOPLE CANNOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH A FORMULAR?

I HAVE COME TO A CONCLUSION THAT ONE REASON IS BECAUSE AMERICAN PROTESTANT DO NOT BELIEVEDD THAT BLESSED VIRGIN MARY DID NOT GIVE BIRTH TO LORD JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.

IT IS HIGH TIME AMERICAN PEOPLE ACCEPT THAT BLESSED VIRGIN MARY IS THE MOTHER OF LORD JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.

THIS MEAN THAT MARY IS THE MOTHER OF GOD.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.

IF THERE IS NO BLESSED VIRGIN MARY THEN THERE IS NO JESUS?

IT IS ABOUT TIME AMERICAN PROTESTANT PRAISE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY EVERY DAY IN THEIR PRAY AND SONG AND MUSIC.

I BELIEVED THAT IF AMERICAN PEOPLE PRAISE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY THEN TORNADOES CANNOT HIT AMERICAN STATES AS AND WHEN THEY LIKE IT.

IT IS ABOUT TIME ALL AMERICAN HOMES HAVE A PICTURE OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY SO THAT TORNADOES WILL NOT STRIKE THEIR HOMES.

IF AMERICAN PEOPLE TRY T

A tornado ripped through my neighborhoos augst 19th. I called to report a claim. The main thing was a tree toppled lines that pulled the power mast from my house.

I spoke to the adjuster a day later, then he was at my house another day later, but didnt bother to knock on my door, so I didnt eget to meet him.

I had to make multiple phone calls a week later to see if he came or not. Then another 3 weeks and more multiple phone calls, and he said he did have a ‘report’, but didnt email it to me for a week.

He suggested a contractor estimate since the siding was damaged. I have old asbestos siding in a weird wood grain/vertical stripe pattern I had multiple contractors out who said this pattern is nowhere to be found. Then didnt heaar from them again for a month and the contractor i chose couldnt get ahold of anyone. Turns out my adjustor was out of town. I was very upset, they assigned a new adjustor, and one day when I was coming home from work, she and my contracotr were at my house (without bothering to tell me) to get a sample of the siding she could mail in for analysis and a match up.

Now they are saying there is a match ("reasonable), but the pattern is totally dissferent. They say all they have to do is provide a reasonable match. I live in MN, a matching state.

Now they just emailed me this estimate, to repair the back siding with the match, and about 150.00 foreach other side of my house to paint. (who is going to do it for that??) Then they have the total amount, LESS DEPRECIATION (can they do this?) less the deductable, and said a check for 2,000 is on its way. I cant get it repaired for that, and I dont agree it matches!!! I dont want my back different rom the rest of the house!

Plus they skimped on the fence repair cost, didnt include the gate, and didnt include my compost bin, ect that was also damaged. They are impossible to get ahold of and argumentative. My insurance agent isnt helpful much either. He never bothered to call me back after I reported this. HELP!!

Pass this message out to as many people as you can.Make me wonder why i haven’t heard about this on the news sounds like everyone would want this.

NEW YORK – On Sept. 11, Jacob Sundberg of San Antonio has pledged to make eye contact and smile at everyone he meets. Kaitlin Ulrich will bring goody baskets to the police and fire departments in and around Philadelphia. And 100 volunteers from New York – 9/11 firefighters and family members among them – are going to Groesbeck, Texas, to rebuild a house destroyed by a tornado last December.

This is a minute sampling of the hundreds of thousands of people who have pledged to memorialize those killed on 9/11 by doing something good for others.

The heroic acts of all those killed trying to save others that September morning has spawned a growing grass-roots movement. The goal is to ensure that future generations remember not just the horror of the attacks, but also the extraordinary outpouring of humanity during the days, weeks, and months that followed.

"It was the worst possible day imaginable, and in some ways, a remarkable day, too, in the way in which people responded," says David Paine, cofounder of myGoodDeed.org. "We need to rekindle the way we came together in the spirit of 9/11: It would be almost as much a tragedy to lose that lesson."

Sept. 11 has inspired dozens of philanthropic efforts – from groups dedicated to building memorials to foundations designed to improve education in the Middle East. But myGoodDeed has a more universal goal: to turn 9/11 into a day dedicated to doing good – from small, simple things like Lisa Scheive’s pledge to help stranded turtles cross the road in Pompano Beach, Fla., to lifesaving efforts, such as John Feal’s decision in New York to donate one of his kidneys to help a seriously ill 9/11 worker.

The idea has been endorsed by members of Congress, and at myGoodDeed’s urging, President Bush for the first time this year included a call for volunteering in his annual 9/11 proclamation.

After major disasters, Americans have historically tapped a deep reserve of compassion and reached out to others. But in the months and years that follow, those compassionate and civic urges tend to recede. Studies at Harvard’s Saguaro Seminar on Civic Engagement in America found that in as few as five months after 9/11, most Americans had gone back to their daily lives and were not more engaged as they said they’d hoped to be. Part of the goal of turning 9/11 into a national day of service is to remind Americans of the inherent joy of giving and to hopefully spur volunteering and charitable acts throughout the year.

"I don’t know of any research that’s been done on one day of service, but studies have shown that people who do volunteering in high school are more likely to volunteer throughout their lives," says Thomas Sander, executive director of the Saguaro Seminar.

The idea of turning 9/11 into a day of service, charity, and good deeds came from the family and friends of one man: Glenn Winuk, a volunteer fireman and lawyer who worked a block and a half from the World Trade Center. After he helped evacuate his Broadway law offices, he grabbed a medic’s bag and ran toward the smoke pouring from the South Tower. That’s where his remains were found after the towers fell. Mr. Paine and Glenn’s brother Jay had been friends for years. They decided that turning 9/11 into a day of service was best way to memorialize Glenn.

"It completely reflects the way my brother lived his life, and it also specifically reflects how he died," says Mr. Winuk, myGoodDeed.org cofounder. "He laid his life on the line for other people that day."

In 2002, Paine and Winuk sent e-mails to friends and family and suggested they do a good deed, such as donate a day’s pay on 9/11. Then the idea evolved, and they founded myGoodDeed.org. In 2004, 100,000 visited their website and pledged to do a good deed on 9/11. This year, those pledging number more than 250,000.

"A lot of people don’t know what to do on 9/11," says Paine. "This hits people in their heart and their soul. It connects with something that’s fundamental."

My area is one of those "enjoying" severe weather the past several days.

My weather radio has just given a tornado watch and a severe thunderstorm warning and, now, the siren has started going off.

Should I go for points or go for shelter?

I await the consensus of my Answers family……Well, I hope I’ll be awating! lol

Thanks!
Technically, I guess it’s a Severe Weather Siren, not just a "Tornado Siren".
Feel free to report the ?????? moron. He should be shot, live on the internet.
He’s already been deleted. Sorry for all the added details!

It’s not just a portable radio, but something else. We were in a basement during a tornado once, and some friends had one of these. It came in very handy and constantly kept us informed of what was going on outside.

A friend of mine was acting very strangely, for a few months. I was very confused, ect. Well, I had this image in my head of him sitting i the waiting room at a hospital. It didn’t last long, but about 2 weeks later, I found out he was very sick, and he didn’t want to tell anyone about it.

Things like this have happened to me before. About 3 years ago, when I live in Tennessee, I had this sudden urge to draw something.

I had no pencils and no paint. I took a piece of paper, and used mustard and cigarettes ashes and a bic pen, and I created an image of a girl floating inside of a tornado, with a small house to the left of the tornado. In creepy hand writing I wrote, "There goes the nieghborhood…"

Well, a few hours later, I got in my car and decided, for whatever reason, to go to Ohio to see my mother. About halfway through the trip, I got a call saying that my dad’s house (the one I had just left in Tennessee), and his entire nieghborhood was smashed by tornados. People died, and the National Guard patroled the neighborhood for weeks.

How do I know when I’m being "clairvoyant", or is there really such a thing?

I’ve had several experiences like that in my life.

Capricorn, moon in leo, rising sign in pisces.
